    A) no you didn't.

    B) Next time just quote me and mr-JC4COO, instead of giving poor Corbu a heart attack.

It was a combination of laziness and it being +1 degrees + raining that were the reasons for my deplorable behavior My Motion is set to arrive today. That IP67- fabulousness can't come soon enough. That said, I'll probably give it to my brother.

I'm very curious what the licensing agreement BB has with Timex might result in. I'm considering buying a Fitbit Ionic, but a BB+Timex collaboration might be fun too. If they are going to launch something before Christmas, they need to do it sooner rather than later. MWC 2018 is probably more likely though.

Blackberry's QNX has been the most widely used OS, on account of its ability to provide automate the car by providing hands-free calling, mapping, and internet service. However, Linux is expected to take over the leading position and grow at the fastest CAGR of 32.9% over the forecast period. Preference of open source as it allows car manufacturers to tweak the module to provide unique features limited only to a company is expected to augment growth.

The doors are wide open! We can't have security or piece of mind when manufactures have control over our vehicle(also hackers). Time to invest in a donkey. LOL

How can he talk about potential gaps in the IP portfolio in the future? He should promote the company and not bad mouthing it. This guy is by far one of the worst CEOs when it comes to representing a company and generating shareholder value. He should just let others do the talking

UPDATE 2-BlackBerry COO resigns to deal with family issues -source

He oversaw marketing, strategic partnerships, developer outreach and other areas.

“That’s a big loss” said Nick McQuire, vice president of enterprise research at CCS Insight, a technology consultancy. “He was very influential in BlackBerry.”

Beard, whose departure was disclosed to BlackBerry staff in an internal company memo on Friday, does not intend to look for another job, said the person, who did not want to be identified because the matter is private.

BlackBerry’s stock ended the session down 0.7 percent at C$13.16 on the Toronto Stock Exchange, hitting its low for the day at C$13.08 soon after Reuters reported Beard’s departure.

The source did not say whether Chen intended to name a new COO. Representatives with BlackBerry did not respond to requests for comment.

McQuire said he hoped BlackBerry quickly names a successor to supervise those key functions at a time when it is looking at multiple markets in its bid to return to growth.

He said that BlackBerry should consider hiring a senior marketing executive whose role would be separate from operations.

“He had a lot on his plate, maybe they’ll have to rethink the areas that Marty owned and perhaps have multiple people doing those jobs,” he said.

General information on augmented reality (AR) technology:

Is Vuzix Finally Nearing An Inflection Point In Smart Glasses?
    https://seekingalpha.com/article/412...-smart-glasses

The stock though despite a big rally over the last week still trades in the middle of the range over the last year. The question is whether Vuzix is about to cash in on the expected augmented reality (AR) craze in 2018? Most people agree that an AR future is all but certain with the technology useful to augment business professionals or consumers for everyday activities such as remote support, warehouse solutions or gaming. Basically, anywhere that hands-free mobile computing can improve employee efficiency, the technology has a future. At this point, the question is when the technology reaches a point where the costs are low enough to drive consumption.

In the case of Vuzix, the company consistently garners industry awards and adds to an existing patent portfolio. Vuzix was recently awarded four International CES Innovation 2018 awards for the Vuzix Blade that's expected to ship in early 2018. Combined with growing the patent portfolio significantly to more than 100 patents or patents pending, the AR technology specialist is prepared to participate in the growing market via multiple channels.

Vuzix continues making progress with releasing a product with Toshiba(OTCPK:TOSBF) discussed during Q3 materials and signed up BlackBerry(BB) as a security partner during the quarter. The BlackBerry partnership allows enterprise customers to manage and secure data captured through its smart glasses via the Unified Endpoint Management software. In total, the company has signed up 350 pilot programs across 45 countries for the M300 smart glasses.

These collaborations with PTC and Blackberry among other partners provides the smart glasses from Vuzix with an ecosystem to support enterprise customers. The more partners, the more likely the pilot programs turn into sales.

BlackBerry calls in deal making elite to help monetise its portfolio in smartphone sector - Blog - IAM - Maximising IP Value for Business
    Joff Wild

Last week BlackBerry put out a press release announcing what looks to be a pretty significant shift in its patent monetisation strategy. Instead of doing all the work in-house, the company has agreed a deal that gives an entity called Teletry “the right to sublicense a broad range of BlackBerry patents to a majority of global smartphone manufacturers”. BlackBerry will retain ownership of a portfolio “of approximately 40,000 patents and applications” and operate “its own licensing program outside of Teletry's sublicensing rights”. So, this is not a typical privateering-style arrangement.

Teletry is described as “an independent operating company with expertise in building relationships between patent holders and licensees in the wireless technology industry”. It is headed up by Kasim Alfalahi, who will be known to just about everyone who reads this blog as the former chief IP officer of Ericsson and the current CEO of Avanci, the IoT licensing platform.

Avanci is one of several businesses that sit within the Marconi Group, which was created earlier this year. Another is PanOptis, the NPE which, among other assets, owns a number of patents previously held by Ericsson. Although it is not entirely clear, it looks as if Teletry has been specifically created for the BlackBerry venture - it does not have its own website as far as I can tell and the only mention of it on the Marconi website is the press release announcing the BlackBerry deal.

Aside from Alfalahi, there are a number of other very well-known patent deal makers on the Marconi roster, including: former Google and Motorola Mobility patent transactions rainmaker Kirk Dailey; Eric Reifschneider, previously with Qualcomm; and Fred Telecky, once of Texas Instruments and most recently head of the licensing operation at PanOptis.

In terms of organising a licensing campaign to bring on board mobile device manufacturers across the world, you would struggle to find a better connected, more experienced set of operators. Alfalahi and Dailey, for example, were both very closely associated with the acquisitions, licensing deals and litigation that accompanied the birth and roll-out of the smartphone; while among the companies that have been on the other end of PanOptis suits over recent years are Kyocera, Huawei and ZTE. Another is BlackBerry itself. I am only speculating, but is it possible that the recently-agreed deal has something to do with that case? It will be worth watching out for any announcements about it settling.

The news of this deal comes just a few months after IAM revealed that Mark Kokes, senior vice president of intellectual property, licensing & standards at Blackberry, had left the company. Kokes is now with California-based Nantworks and has yet to be replaced by his former employer.

In an interview with IAM conducted just prior to his departure, Kokes waxed lyrical about the potential of the BlackBerry portfolio as a monetisation vehicle: “Our patents cover multiple technologies – maybe 40 plus … We have depth in areas like smart grids, gambling, manufacturing, mobile communications, radars and tracking, logistics, and many more.” What that means, of course, is that there will be plenty for the company's licensing team to get on with while Teletry chases the smartphone makers, presumably on some kind of profit-share basis.

Speaking on a Quarter 2 earnings call to analysts at the end of September, BlackBerry CEO John Chen once again emphasised the importance of IP licensing to the company, stating: “I am hoping that we are going to get to $100 million or so in IP revenue this year.” Of course, that was a few weeks before the Teletry deal was announced, so the odds have to be against Alfalahi and co having an impact in this financial year.

For the following ones, though, both parties will be expecting a return. If Kokes was right about the strength and breadth of the BlackBerry portfolio, outsourcing a large part of the smartphone licensing business to Teletry will free internal deal makers at the company to chase businesses in other verticals. That, in turn, should hasten the arrival of royalties into the company’s coffers – something that will undoubtedly please investors. The hook-up with Teletry may not have been a move that BlackBerry entered into entirely willingly, but it could be one that bears significant fruit.
