BBM is planning to expand into other countries with Indonesian model (I postedt the Google translation of the article, while not very good you will still get the message):

Ipakarta, CNN Indonesia - Vice President of Business Development BBM Adrian Anwar said that it did not close the possibility to widen the fuel market to other countries. This is expressed Adrian after seeing the development of fuel in Indonesia is considered quite successful.

According to Adrian, his side is currently exploring several countries for market expansion. However, Adrian is still reluctant to mention which countries will be addressed.

But he ensures that the strategy to be carried out will be similar as in Indonesia. Enter through cooperation with several media in the next destination country. Because, according to Adrian this strategy somewhat powerful to re-turn on fuel in Indonesia. One of them through affiliation with Emtek.

"So we are exploring a lot of cooperation with content applications such as media company in the country we will cooperate with because we see the strategy of entering Indonesia one group with Emtek it is a very good success formula," he said when met CNNIndonesia.com on the mat Popcon Asia 2017, in Jakarta, Saturday (5/8).

    Developing country

In addition to Indonesia, according to Adrian currently BBM also exist in several other countries. Some of them are South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Canada and Qatar.

According to him, BBM still exist in these countries because it has a character similar to Indonesia. The similarities range from the status of developing countries, the number of similar applications, and the likeness of consumers. The similarity of this consumer described Adrian seen from the ownership of smartphones with limited memory. Thus, users in these countries have difficulty downloading many applications.

"Well, very unique all because those countries have challenges similar to Indonesia," he said. For him, the similarity of this challenge that can be a gap for the fuel to re-master the market.

Adrian assess the development of fuel in developing countries grew well and fairly successful. This strategy will be used BBM rather than having to dredge the market in developed countries.

In addition, Adrian also explained that BBM keeps planting business teams in each of the users' countries. "Our business team remains in the countries we are still operating," he said.

Adrian also added that currently the development of Blackberry Messenger (BBM) has mostly been done in Indonesia. "Engineer is mostly already in Indonesia. (As many as 60 percent of it's engineers already in Indonesia, 40 percent are still in Canada and a bit in Singapore (a)," said Adrian.

In the embedded automotive world, QNX is still the recognized leader and the one AGL is trying to catch. The Linux group is developing a hypervisor like system that will emulate the one from QNX.

I really hope that BlackBerry this time takes the competetive threats seriously and pushes QNX agressively to have a first mover advantage. The already lost their leadership position once before.

Your argument is only valid if you do not look further than to buying shares on an exchange from another shareholder. But you have to look at the whole "chain": the first shareholders (when a company is being founded) are providing their money as capital for the company to hire and pay people that create IP, programm software code, etc. and for that allocation of capital they want to see a ROI. Without the money of the shareholders the company would not be able to establish a business in the first place.

If a first round shareholders decides to sell his shares to another person this new shareholder inherits this original demand for a ROI. And the demand for ROI is being passed trough with every share sale to a new shareholder.

People giving their money to companys so they can invest and hire in return for dividends and build up of shareholder value is called capitalism and that is the world we are living in. The world your are describing where people just hand over their money without any rights is called North Korea or Venzuela.
Huh? How did what I just say describe socialism?? When did I say that the company should be taken out of private hands and given to the state to operate? You got some new buzzwords like NK or Venezuela to throw around to make you seem progressive? You need to learn the concept of risk within capitalism. Profit is not guaranteed!

The share price of a public company on Nasdaq is based on Wall St expectations. If you don't meet expectations, your share price goes down to align with that. If John Chen would have came out pre-earnings and said that Wall St needs to temper expectations as this is a bad quarter than the share price would have went down immediately instead of at the ER. You think if he said that prior to ER that magically the share price wouldn't have been affected?

I stand by my original assertion. You're a whiney child with completely nonsensical expectations and an absured understanding of capitalism and markets.

Now that would be some welcome news:

"....QNX manager Grant Courville said it expected to sign deals with at least three major companies to get QNX into self-driving vehicles..."

Now let us hope that their understanding of "major company" is the same as of the public. For me "main" would mean one of the big players like VW, Mercedes or Peugeot and not some niche producer.

    Here the whole report:

TORONTO (Reuters) - BlackBerry Ltd (BB.TO)(BBRY.O) shares have been plunging from their more than two-year high hit in June after lackluster earnings and competitive threats have raised doubts about prospects for a turnaround at the business software maker.

At Friday's price of about $8.70, BlackBerry's U.S.-traded shares have lost a quarter of their value since reaching a high of $11.74 on June 1.

The stock had rallied from a low of $6.65 in early March on hopes for the company's QNX industrial operating system for self-driving cars, but investors have started to reassess the yearslong effort by BlackBerry to move beyond the smartphones that made its name a household word.

"It's been a turnaround story now for about five years," said Joel Kulina, a technology-sector market maker for Wedbush Securities. "People don’t have the patience."

Chief Executive Officer John Chen has spent years remaking BlackBerry as a software company focused on selling to automakers and other industrial businesses.

Revenue, which peaked at about $20 billion when BlackBerry was dominating the smartphone market, has fallen sharply. Analysts expect it to drop below $1 billion this year for the first time since 2004 and decline again in the following fiscal year.

"We're not going to jump in before we see some signs of turning the corner and establishing meaningful profitability," said wealth manager Chris Zaccarelli, whose Cornerstone Financial Partners in Huntersville, North Carolina, advises on $1.2 billion of assets.

In late June, BlackBerry reported quarterly earnings that missed analysts' forecasts due to an unexpected sales decline, ramping up pressure on*the company to meet its goal of boosting software and services revenue by 10 percent to 15 percent this year.*BlackBerry declined to comment on the stock price, but QNX manager Grant Courville said it expected to sign deals with at least three major companies to get QNX into self-driving vehicles.

Last year BlackBerry announced a deal for Ford Motor Co (F.N) to expand use of QNX, which is used mostly in car information and entertainment systems. The companies have provided few details on the arrangement.

QNX, which is already in most automobile "infotainment" systems, is one product that BlackBerry bulls talked up as the stock rallied earlier this year, saying the plans to expand its use in other parts of vehicles could generate significant revenue.

Yet investors "are figuring out that it isn't a straight path to a pot of gold" for QNX, said CIBC Markets analyst Todd Coupland.

Intel Corp (INTC.O) poses one threat to QNX. The world's No. 1 chipmaker owns a rival operating system and this year paid $15.3 billion to buy Mobileye, a maker of sensors and cameras for self-driving vehicles.

Luxury carmaker Audi (NSUG.DE) is using Intel's system in the safety-related electronic control unit for its 2018 A8 sedan, which will be one of the most advanced self-driving cars on the road.

Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) last week joined a self-driving technology alliance whose members include Intel, Ericsson (ERICb.ST) and Denso Corp (6902.T) but not BlackBerry.

BlackBerry's Courville discounted the threat from Intel. He said QNX was being used in at least six automotive programs based on Intel chips, some for self-driving vehicles.

With all due respect, those two paragraphs give an indication of Alastair Sharp's "knowledge" of QNX and its competitors, imo:

All, this is my first post but have been lurking in the forum for quite a while.

This month, we closed lower on 10 of the 13 trading days. Are we in a downtrend again? My likely thoughts is that this is due to the GS sell rating, coupled with virtually no significant news that could serve as a catalyst for a price rally.

At this price 8.68, we are at the point in April when price gapped up due to the Qualcomm announcement. I'm hoping this serves as a support and doesn't continue drifting downward to close that gap. I said "drifting" as that is how I feel the price action is this whole month and not traders really selling off. So because of this, I'm keeping my hopes up. I'm hoping we are just one or two significant announcement from a breakthrough and price continuing its upward track. It could be the BLU case, or it could be the next earnings result? Either way, some good news would definitely be welcome at this stage to hopefully ignite something.

Just voicing out my thoughts. Happy weekend everyone.

Prior to the model in the Jingdong Mall booking more than 14 million, although the official said to ensure supply, but want to take the lead in the experience of the BlackBerry friends, or to prepare to buy, so as not to miss the opportunity to buy. So hot scenes seem to also marked the smart full keyboard phone is still nowadays many users of personalized choice.

The asset tracking one is of most interest. It seems to cover all type of wireless technology deployed globally which will be used by the service. This would add weight to the comment a few weeks back where Blackberrys legal team were busy handling paperworks internationally, related to Radar. I'm pretty sure it's in this thread. Just don't have time to search it as I'm on the road atm.

I talked with someone that works on BlackBerry's legal stuff and she said they are going nuts with registering Radar around the globe. They don't do any of the litigation work so she had no insight there.

It always concerns me when I don't see BlackBerry in these groups.

DENSO Corporation, Ericsson, Intel Corporation, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), NTT DOCOMO, INC., Toyota InfoTechnology Center Co., Ltd., and Toyota Motor Corporation announced that they have initiated the formation of the Automotive Edge Computing Consortium. The objective of the consortium is to develop an ecosystem for connected cars to support emerging services, such as intelligent driving, the creation of maps with real-time data, and driving assistance based on cloud computing.

It is estimated that the data volume between vehicles and the cloud will reach 10 exabytes per month around 2025, approximately 10,000 times larger than the present volume. This expected increase will trigger the need for new architectures of network and computing infrastructure to support distributed resources and topology-aware storage capacity. The architectures will be compliant with applicable standards, which requires collaboration on a local and global scale.

The consortium will focus on increasing network capacity to accommodate automotive big data in a reasonable fashion between vehicles and the cloud by means of edge computing and more efficient network design. It will define requirements and develop use cases for emerging mobile devices with a particular focus on the automotive industry, bringing them to standards bodies, industry consortiums and solution providers. The consortium will also encourage the development of best practices for the distributed and layered computing approach recommended by the members.

In the coming months, the aforementioned companies will initiate activities to invite relevant global technology leaders and expand the consortium.

I think one reason could be that being in such consortiums mean, you have to share you IP but are not allowed to charge for it. So for QNX the best way to go IMHO would be to get as many car makers on board as possible. If the would really manage to add another three to five of the major automakers as Ford like customers, QNX could become one of or the main OS in cars.
