I seem to better understanding where John Chen is heading, progressively putting in elements to solidify response abilities where the big bucks are expected to move. Reminds me of Wayne Gretzky who said something to the effect of "Don't watch where the puck is presently, but rather where it is heading."

    https://www.cnet.com/news/the-smartphone-party-is-over/
"Sales worldwide of smartphones have flatlined in 2016, but strong growth for 4G smartphones in emerging markets remains a bright spot. Forecast projected sales for 2016 represents a year-over-year growth rate of just 0.6 percent, a steep drop from the 10.4 percent growth rate the industry saw between 2014 and 2015, according to IDC. The only good news is that sales of 4G smartphones, mostly in emerging markets, is expected to see a 21.3 percent year-over-year boost in 2016. Much of this growth will be driven by sales in developing markets in Asia, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Big manufacturers are feeling the pain as Apple and Samsung have each experienced significant declines in sales."

2016 was year of progress vs. pilfering | ZDNet
"2016 was a rough year for the digital credential, a flicker of hope for privacy, and a mandate to better protect access controls and data. Credentials were hacked, cracked, phished, faked, stolen, re-used, resurfaced, and for a brief period No. 1 on the FBI's most wanted list. The importance of this effort was reinforced in early 2016 by Michael Rogers, director of the National Security Agency, who called data "an increasing commodity of interest to many with a strong desire to steal it." Overall, there was a confluence of encouraging advancements related to identity and security for enterprises and consumers."

BlackBerry QNX Partners with Obigo to Build a Better Browser for Your Car | Inside BlackBerry

By John Wall, Senior Vice-President and Head of QNX Software Systems
Good that QNX will improve their offerings...

Bad that they'll have to pay someone else "IP" to get a better browser... and bad that as a software company that has in the past had experience building web browsers, that there was no one left at BlackBerry to help with this..

Right...so any other companies cannot partner with another company because they dont have the resources to do it.

    No they should....

Just sad that a company a few years ago had a team that created the BB10 Browser (runs on a QNX based OS)... doesn't have those resources anymore. Just another nail in the idea that BB10 might be useful for something.

FWIW, my understanding is that he means that the standard Android triangle, circle and square on-screen buttons will be replaced by actual HW buttons.

Even serial hater TheStreet has some positive words among its twisted frequently less than noble interpretation of the Market:

Here's Why BlackBerry's Stock Is Getting More Enticing by the Day
    https://www.thestreet.com/story/1393...y-the-day.html
"Meanwhile, this stock is a great opportunity for long-term investors looking for a play on connected technology and self-driving cars. These areas are where the real gains for this company will be. As the market for autonomous cars grows, BlackBerry will have been at the forefront. And its software will be in demand."

Well there's always something 'good', 'bad' and 'sad' to say, isn't there?

If I can cheer you up, perhaps this new browser will function much better than the current BB10 browser, cost much less for BlackBerry, and become part of 10.3.4 . In that case, it would not be the end of BB10.

Some interesting option trades again. Some large buyers of the Feb $7 Strike calls, about 25,000 so far or about 2.5M shares equivalent.

Spread trade. A Trader sold 100,000 shares (1000 contracts) of the Jan $5 Strike CALLS for a net $194,000 and bought 150,000 shares of the Jan $6.50 Strike for a cost of $81,000
So they received $113,000 Net ($194K - $81K) and their breakeven on this trade is $6.13 on the downside and they make money above $7.25 on or before Jan 20, 2017
Between the price of $6.13 and $7.25 is a loss, so they need a major move one way, obviously the Trader is has a 1.5X bet above the $7.25 price so unlimited upside and no loss below $6.13
Loss is the greatest in the $6.50 area

FWIW some positive elements continue to be propagated in the vast sea of noise out there :

New BlackBerry Smartphones Are Coming In January | Investopedia
" As it stands, BlackBerry now has the best of both worlds. It will generate licensing revenue from its name without the costs or risks associated with building the hardware, and be in a position to focus on its bottom-line enhancing software."
