Same way Microsoft ate QNX's lunch with their platform for Ford? Automakers have more control over the niche player like QNX/BlackBerry than they would with Alphabet.

Android auto has no track record yet. QNX does. So we'd have to see.

BlackBerry Enhances Single Secure Platform for Multi-OS Device, Application and Content Management

Fully integrated solution for MDM, MAM and MCM will provide businesses with unprecedented control of complete mobile assets from a single unified administrative experience

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 8, 2016) - BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQ:BBRY)(TSX:BB), a global leader in secure mobile communications, today announced that it has completed another step of its integration of the BES12, Good Dynamics and WatchDox by BlackBerry products for a single, comprehensive management experience. Whereas best of breed management of devices, apps and content has traditionally required multiple consoles from multiple vendors, with BlackBerrys multi-OS EMM platform administrators will be able to securely manage their full mobile deployment at the device, app and content layer from a single secure platform with unmatched control. In addition, BlackBerry will introduce AtHoc for Good Dynamics and new split billing solutions with BlackBerry WorkLife™.

"With the latest enterprise portfolio enhancements, our Good Secure EMM Suites will provide customers with flexibility to apply security and policies across the various device, OS, container, application, network and file layers, from a single unified platform and console," said Billy Ho, Executive Vice President, Enterprise Product and Value Added Solutions, BlackBerry.

BlackBerry continues to integrate key capabilities from its enterprise software portfolio into the Good Secure EMM Suites to provide organizations with the flexibility they need as they use mobility to empower employees and transform their business. Enterprises typically consist of different user bases and data sensitivities that require multiple security approaches. In addition, many organizations enable various device ownership models such as BYOD, COPE or COBO that create different requirements for protecting user privacy. By integrating BES12, Good Dynamics and WatchDox by BlackBerry, organizations can choose the right approach across all users, device and OS platforms and ownership models without creating administrative overhead and while controlling their TCO spend.

Customers will be able to deploy Good Dynamics apps in KNOX Workspace, combining the BES12 unique end-end management and security capabilities for KNOX Workspace devices with the rich experience of the Good Dynamics platform and productivity apps. Customers can then leverage a unified self-service portal that can be customized by the organization, and that delivers a refreshed end-user experience.

In addition to enhancing the unified administrative experience for the Good Secure EMM Suites, BlackBerry also announced the AtHoc mobile app for Good and split billing features with BlackBerry WorkLife. These new capabilities will be integrated with the Good Dynamics platform, enhancing the security and deployment options for these solutions.

Networked crisis communication - The AtHoc mobile app is being built specifically for the Good Dynamics Secure Mobility Platform putting the industry's leading crisis communications capabilities in the palm of a hand. The AtHoc app will simplify the user experience while adding security and controls that users have come to expect from the Good platform. During an event, users of the app can receive critical alerts, send one-click duress signals, and share photos and video along with their real-time GPS location to provide further awareness and protection.

Split billing for cost control - with BlackBerry WorkLife™ - Advanced Analytics, users can monitor cellular data usage of any Good Dynamics, custom built and third-party applications developed with the Good Dynamics SDK v2.0 or later, produce reports and shape usage policies, all without infringing on personal privacy or content. Companies can see the exact cellular data usage over time by app, user, device or carrier graphically, with filters so they can quickly identify patterns or drill down into the details. The data can be also exported for offline analysis to support stipend calculations, chargeback or compliance demands. Personal data usage or activity on the same device is never tracked, and no change in user behavior or mobile device installations are required.

BlackBerry WorkLife™ - Reimbursement goes a step further by facilitating the reimbursement process for work-related data usage to cover the charges employees incur when they use approved business apps on iOS and Android™ devices. This way, organizations can ensure they're paying only for the data employees use for work, reducing or eliminating stipends and reimbursement programs while pre-empting HR, tax and compliance issues at the same time.

The enterprise software portfolio updates and BlackBerry WorkLife solutions will be launching at the end of June 2016, and the AtHoc mobile app for Good will be available at the end of July 2016.

BlackBerry Introduces Email Protector and WatchDox for Salesforce to Enhance Content Security and Data Loss Protection

New Salesforce integration and email attachment protection from WatchDox by BlackBerry prevent business critical data loss in emerging enterprise cloud environments

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 8, 2016) - BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQ:BBRY)(TSX:BB), a global leader in secure mobile communications, today announced WatchDox by BlackBerry Email Protector, an entirely new offering that provides businesses with the means of automatically controlling and securing files sent through email by embedding file-level DRM protection, even after they leave the organization's firewall. In addition, WatchDox File Sync and Share integration will be available for Salesforce.com and Microsoft Office Online.

"The emergence of cloud services as core components of business infrastructure is changing the way organizations need to approach security. WatchDox protects the new borderless enterprise by delivering not only the most secure EFSS File Sync and Share solutions but enhanced integration with Salesforce.com and the new BlackBerry Email Protector," said Billy Ho, Executive Vice President, Enterprise Product and Value Added Solutions, BlackBerry. "The risk of data loss is significantly minimized by encrypting and enforcing DRM protection at the file-level when users are viewing, editing and annotating synced documents, no matter on which side of the firewall those documents travel."

Email Protector leverages the highly regarded WatchDox platform to automatically apply DRM protection to email attachments sent through an organization's email gateway based on controllable policies such as recipient or file type. Administrators can protect or exempt specific file types, users or entire domains. In addition, Email Protector places attached files into an IT-controlled WatchDox repository and replaces the file with a download link in the original email. This provides unmatched security with a seamless user experience. Email Protector also integrates with email Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solutions to enforce file-level security based on DLP security policies. If the DLP system identifies an email with sensitive business information, WatchDox will embed DRM security into the attachment before it leaves the firewall.

As one of the most used SaaS (Software as a Service) applications and a system of record, increasing amounts of data are now contained within Salesforce. This includes very sensitive information about the company's business, including leads, contacts, and sales opportunities as well as other insights into the operations. Companies working with Salesforce can take full advantage of WatchDox storage, sharing, collaboration and customizable document security features, directly from within Salesforce.com. By using WatchDox to store and share files specific to Salesforce records, organizations can apply policies to avoid costly data loss. Access controls are completely customizable and intuitive and files can be set to expire, or be revoked at any time.

Other feature updates for WatchDox by BlackBerry include:

Edit Documents in the Browser with WatchDox for Web and Office Online - WatchDox for Web is now integrated with Office Online, so users can securely view, edit and version their documents without ever having to leave the web browser, download a file, or install any software. When changes are saved, they are automatically synced back to WatchDox and stored as a new version.

Powerful Upgrades to WatchDox for Microsoft Outlook - WatchDox delivers incremental productivity by providing users with a consolidated and convenient place to view all of their sent and received files at a glance and with tools to easily create, version, protect and share files up to 10 GB in size. All this within the Microsoft Outlook interface, saving people time who have to search through their inbox looking for files.

Introducing Custom Application Workspaces - Third-party application developers benefit from this private storage space that is not exposed through the native WatchDox interface. Combined with a rich SDK and APIs, web and application developers can leverage the WatchDox platform's security, mobility, sharing and synchronization capabilities directly through their custom app interface.

New Online Viewer in WatchDox for Web - The online viewer for WatchDox has been rebuilt in HTML5 to the same security standards as the original Flash viewer, and introduces new user experiences and design. Users can now create, review and share annotations with other contributors who can then correspond on any device.

Role Builder - WatchDox system administrators can create customized permission profiles for unique user workflows, making them available to end-users when they're sharing files. It's a capability that gives organizations the flexibility to control how the users in a workspace are engaging with files. It also gives the organization confidence that the right security settings are being applied across a range of scenarios.

Authentication Enhancements - System administrators can now customize timeout periods for specific users, user groups, or by application. For example, a large private equity firm uses WatchDox to share documents to both internal employees and external partners, vendors and customers. To enhance security, external parties are required to re-authenticate daily, while internal employees are only required to re-authenticate once a week.

WatchDox for Microsoft Windows, now with Easy Upload - Users on a Windows PC (Windows 7, 8 and 10) can select any file on internal or external storage and upload it directly to a WatchDox workspace (or sub-folder). This way, you can start an upload of a large file now, and if you have to close your computer and resume later, you can. WatchDox remembers where the upload was before you closed your computer.

WatchDox by BlackBerry is a modern, highly secure file management platform that enables effortless, multi-OS synchronization and sharing. The solutions limit the risk for data loss or theft by embedding Digital Rights Management (DRM) security into each individual file, so content remains secure and within IT's control, even after it is downloaded and shared outside of an organization. Users can easily access, sync, edit, share and control their files from any of their devices and provides unified access to content in SharePoint, file shares, cloud storage services and Enterprise Content Management Systems (ECMs). WatchDox is available for Mac OS X, Windows PC, Android, iOS and BlackBerry 10 devices.

WatchDox by BlackBerry Email Protector and WatchDox for Salesforce are available as of today, while the enhanced Outlook plug-in is launching in the upcoming weeks.

More information on these and other new products and features available in June can be found at www.blackberry.com/enterpriseupdate.

This is a good opportunity for QNX to set better pricing than they have in infotainment systems. I would think instrument clusters are high value and QNX should be able to price them accordingly.

QNX Acoustics Software Ships in Over 50 Million Automotive Systems

Almost 20 automakers, including Fiat-Chrysler, Ford, GM and Honda, now use QNX acoustics software to enhance the user experience of their vehicles

NOVI, MICHIGAN--(Marketwired - June 8, 2016) - TU-Automotive Detroit Conference - QNX Software Systems Limited, a subsidiary of BlackBerry Limited (TSX:BB)(NASDAQ:BBRY), today announced that its acoustics software for hands-free voice communications has shipped in over 50 million telematics and infotainment systems. Almost 20 leading automakers now use QNX acoustics software to enhance the user experience of their vehicles, in products such as Chrysler Uconnect, Ford SYNC 3, GM OnStar and Honda BlueConnect. On average, QNX acoustics software is shipped in an automotive system every 2.5 seconds.

Engineered to address the challenges of noisy automotive environments, QNX acoustics technology runs on a rich choice of automotive hardware and software platforms. These include the QNX Neutrino OS, which has been deployed in over 60 million vehicles worldwide.

Today's drivers expect to hear - and to be heard - clearly when they call from their cars, and to have a distraction-free experience. Moreover, the smartphone is driving expectations for better call quality through support for Voice-over-IP calling and Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) technologies. To meet these expectations in the harsh acoustic environment of the car, automakers rely on QNX Acoustics for Voice, which provides patented algorithms for echo cancellation, noise reduction and other voice-enhancement technologies, and on the expert tuning, testing and software support provided by QNX Software Systems worldwide.

In addition to QNX Acoustics for Voice, QNX Software Systems offers:

QNX In-Car Communication - A revolutionary technology that enhances the driver's voice, allowing passengers in the back seats to hear the driver clearly, even when the vehicle is driving at highway speeds. Instead of shouting or turning around to be heard, the driver can speak normally, while keeping his or her eyes on the road.

QNX technologies for improving in-vehicle sound quality - These include QNX Acoustics for Active Noise Control, which reduces the low-frequency engine "boom" noise caused by modern fuel-saving techniques, and QNX Acoustics for Engine Sound Enhancement, which enables automakers to create and maintain unique engine sounds that enhance the appeal of their vehicles.

QNX Acoustics Management Platform (AMP) - A new, holistic approach to managing in-car acoustics that combines all of the above technologies into an integrated solution. QNX AMP allows automakers to manage the total sonic experience of their vehicles, while reducing system costs and complexity.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) encourages automakers to adhere to standards for in-vehicle call quality that QNX Software Systems helped develop.

"The quality of hands-free communications can make or break the driving experience, which is why so many automakers and tier one suppliers rely on QNX acoustics technology - it is engineered to enable the best possible UX, to eliminate the cost of dedicated hardware, and to simplify the tuning of complex acoustics systems," said John Wall, Senior Vice President and Head of QNX Software Systems. "Being deployed in over 50 million systems by nearly 20 automakers is a testament to the value that our acoustics expertise brings to the industry, and to the trust customers place in our production-proven technology."

QNX Software Systems offers a comprehensive suite of infotainment, telematics, safety, and acoustics software platforms deployed in more than 60 million vehicles. More than 40 automotive OEMs use QNX technology for their infotainment systems, digital instrument clusters, advanced driver information systems (ADAS), telematics units, and connectivity modules.

New QNX Platform Accelerates Development of Digital Instrument Clusters

Platform enables customers to deliver compelling user experiences while addressing stringent safety requirements

NOVI, MICHIGAN--(Marketwired - June 8, 2016) - TU-Automotive Detroit Conference - QNX Software Systems Limited, a subsidiary of BlackBerry Limited (TSX:BB)(NASDAQ:BBRY), today announced the latest addition to its portfolio of automotive safety products, the QNX Platform for Instrument Clusters.

Digital instrument clusters constitute one of the fastest-growing segments in automotive electronics. Using sophisticated 2D and 3D graphics, these devices can display traditional instrument cluster information, such as speed and RPM, as well as rich, context-sensitive information supplied by other vehicle subsystems, including turn-by-turn directions, local speed limits, rearview camera video and collision warnings. According to Strategy Analytics, the combined demand for hybrid and fully digital instrument clusters will increase from 8.7 million units in 2015 to 42.2 million by 2023.

With deployments in over 60 million cars, QNX has become the leading software supplier for vehicle infotainment systems. Since 2009, QNX technology has also been powering digital instrument clusters in vehicle brands such as Alfa Romeo, Audi, Corvette, Jaguar and Range Rover. The QNX Platform for Instrument Clusters builds on this expertise to help customers create cluster solutions that offer a superior user experience while satisfying stringent safety requirements.

With the new platform, QNX now offers a comprehensive solution for instrument cluster developers, which includes:

The QNX OS for Safety, an ISO 26262-certified OS and toolchain that supports all of the automotive safety integrity levels, from ASIL A to ASIL D, required for clusters and other critical vehicle systems

A 2D/3D graphics framework that is based on OpenGL and is set to be certified for use in clusters that comply with the ISO 26262 functional safety standard

A software framework that protects safety-critical cluster functions from interference by other software components, enabling greater reliability and easier system-level certification

A reference implementation, with source code, that gives developers a jumpstart on building fully digital instrument clusters

To pre-qualify the platform's graphics framework to the ISO 26262 standard, QNX Software Systems is working closely with TV Rheinland, a world leader in functional safety assessments.

"We are seeing growing interest in ISO 26262, which has emerged worldwide as a leading standard for automotive functional safety, especially in the software domain," said Heinz Gall, Head of the Functional Safety & Security Business Unit of TV Rheinland. "As a world leader in functional safety assessment, we support automotive companies to help them develop a safety culture and adopt best-in-class safety practices. The QNX Neutrino OS was the first realtime OS we assessed to ISO 26262 ASIL D as a Safety Element out of Context, and we will extend our collaboration with QNX Software Systems into the new domain of graphics software for instrument clusters."

"QNX OS technology and i.MX applications processors from NXP offer a production-proven combination for digital instrument clusters. We are excited to support the QNX Platform for Instrument Clusters with our i.MX 6 series and future i.MX 8 series hardware platforms," said Ron Martino, Vice President, i.MX Applications Processors and Advanced Technology Adoption, NXP Semiconductors. "Together, our offerings can address the safety-critical requirements of digital clusters, while offering bleeding-edge 3D and 2D graphics that enable unique driving experiences."

To further accelerate development, the QNX Platform for Instrument Clusters will support application design tools from members of the QNX automotive ecosystem, such as Crank Software's Storyboard Suite, DiSTI Corporation's GL Studio, Elektrobit's EB GUIDE, and Rightware's Kanzi UI software. This rich selection of tools will enable customers to choose the UI technologies and design approaches that best address their project requirements.

"QNX has become an automotive leader by offering comprehensive, one-stop solutions that allow customers to focus on differentiation and time-to-market, rather than on low-level integration efforts," said John Wall, Senior Vice President and Head of QNX Software Systems. "The new QNX Platform for Instrument Clusters brings this proven approach to the digital cluster market, enabling faster development and helping customers reduce the effort and risk of qualifying their end-products to safety standards such as ISO 26262."

    Availability

The QNX Platform for Instrument Clusters is scheduled to be available to select customers under an early access program, starting in August 2016.
