Not sure why anyone liked this as it doesn't make root sense.

I'm sure you didn't mean for your post to come off as rude, but the reason I liked his post is that he was trying to contribute in a constructive and positive manner. Also because he's a handsome, intelligent and cultured man with a great sense of humor. Seriously, he was just giving his opinion, not claiming it as fact.

Lol yeah I guess you're right but nice one still.

I have a new Favourite TV show "Mr. Robot". I have a little less hope for it, 3 episodes in and 2 things I dislike:

    1. Too many Homo acts (just not my thing if yours you do you), and no balance of hetero - if a balance then nothing for my opinion to express on this matter.

    2. Everything technical with IT is accurate except the dis in ep2 about CVT using a BlackBerry with no reason bait the quip. 10mins later another exec circumvent trust of a subordinate and using a MicroSD card to root and grab data remotely to his own android phone, showing android pure insecure and yet powerful tools available. Things like this is probably the push for Samsung having no expandable memory in their phones this generation.

All in all great show so far. BTW in association with Anonymous!!

I've been thinking since reading about this (the Silver Edition Passport) and some of BlackBerry's plans for cutting down on the amount of phones released each year that this is BlackBerry trying to see if this works. Taking the Passport and giving it a tweaked appearance they will see if they can extend the life of the phone to two years. Passport is a good phone to start this on as it was a fresh approach from the beginning. Its almost one year since the launch of the Passport. Interesting to see if this approach can keep the cycle going.

More vendors offer split-billing to enable firms to reimburse for mobile work expenses

    August 3, 2015 | By Fred Donovan

More and more carriers, enterprise mobility vendors and split-billing providers are offering companies the ability to separate business from personal phone use when it comes to the service charges, an option known as split-billing.

The process accelerated last year when a California court ruled that employers in the state had to reimburse employees for personal mobile phone call charges related to work.

Split-billing announcements followed from Good Technology, AT&T and others.

"The issue of paying employees for their mobile phone use has been largely overlooked, with many companies hoping to avoid the conversation altogether. However, with California's court decision setting a strong precedent, this period of blissful ignorance is quickly drawing to a close," wrote VDC Research analysts in a blog post.

Here we are a year since the California court ruling. VDC Research has provided a useful snapshot of what some of the carriers and vendors offer in terms of split-billing programs:

    • AT&T's attempts to develop a split-billing solution as part of its Toggle product "have come in fits and starts."
    • BlackBerry's purchase of Movirtu last year gave struggling enterprise mobility firm the technology to develop its WorkLife solution, which separates voice, SMS and data.
    • Good Technology acquired Macheen last year, which has enabled the EMM vendor to build a split billing solution that separates corporate app data usage from personal activity.
    • Movius's Communications Applications Framework Engine platform enables service providers to offer customers separate personas and different phone numbers for voice and messaging.
    • Mast Mobile uses Oracle's billing and revenue management platform to provide a comprehensive solution that allows an employer to implement split-billing for voice, messaging and data.
    • OpenPeak recently received a patent for its split-billing technology, which enables companies to pay separately for data used through secure or enterprise applications in a container.
    • Syntonic's DataFlex platform provides core split-billing and data usage analytics capabilities. Samsung has teamed with Syntonic to offer enterprises secure mobile split billing for Knox Workspace devices.

VDC Research expects the enterprise demand for split-billing to grow as more firms implement BYOD and COPE programs and deploy new mobile applications.

It seems that they are touting as a "stronger device", maybe to satisfy the more rugged workers?

I'm a welder, and would welcome a more durable device. The Passport is the best I've found, but dust-proof, shock-proof and water-proof would be a dream. The Silver Edition doesn't seem to be quite there, but it does seem more durable.

On a side note, love the square top/round bottom combination. Square top looks beautiful, but the curved bottom would likely sit better in your hand (OR hands)

BlackBerry, Ltd (BBRY) Embraces its Destiny

August 4, 2015 By Victor Alagbe

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) is slowly pivoting to embrace its software destiny. The firm is making all the right moves to establish itself as the leading player in the enterprise security market. The firm has formed an alliance with the likes of Google and Samsung. It has hired a former Cisco executive to come on board as the new head of global sales. In addition, the future is looking bright in the global IT market as IT teams continue to see its BES platform as secure and stable.

A point that attests to the fact that the BES platform is secure and stable is a recent vote of confidence that the U.K. government passed in the firm. The official BlackBerry blog reports that CESG has released an update of security guidelines for government agencies and other security-conscious industries that want to use BlackBerry devices.

CESG is the information security arm of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and the national technical authority for information assurance in the U.K. Without boring you with the details of the updated the guidelines, the main point is that the CESG thinks that BlackBerry devices are secure enough to be used by government employees.

A part of the report reads “BlackBerry mobile devices were the first to be considered secure enough for use by U.K. government employees.” In the U.S., the BlackBerry 10 platform remains the only mobile product that is allowed to run fully to run on U.S. DOD networks.” In fact, it might be necessary to remind you that U.S. President Obama uses a BlackBerry.

Strategic Deals Makes BlackBerry Stronger Still

Late last month, it was announced that the firm has acquired AtHoc for an undisclosed amount. AtHoc has built an expertise as a provider of secure networked crisis communications. The U.S. DOD and Homeland Security are using AtHoc Facilities.

CEO John Chen, in a statement about the deal said that the firm ” is making investments in security, privacy and the Internet of Things, and acquiring AtHoc will enable us to provide a holistic, end-to-end approach to communications. AtHoc’s technology and expertise will play a key role as BlackBerry works to connect and secure a broad range of endpoints.

When Will BlackBerry Complete its Pivot to Software?

From the foregoing, it is obvious that the firm is making great strides in its software business. Yet, the firm has been finding it hard to drop its hardware business and take a plunge into becoming a pure software firm. The firm officially unveiled it BlackBerry Passport “Silver Edition” today and it still has a number of smartphones in the pipeline. The sooner BlackBerry embraces its software destiny, the faster it will be able to obtain the elusive change in its fortunes.

    BlackBerry Buys Emergency Alert Service

    By Investopedia | August 04, 2015 AAA |

If there is one thing that sets BlackBerry (NASDAQ: BBRY) apart from its rivals, it is an emphasis on security. The Canadian smartphone maker added to that reputation earlier this month in acquiring AtHoc, a privately held supplier of software for secure communications. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Imagine the network behind the infamous Emergency Broadcast System that is tested from time to time on TV and radio, and you will have a better sense of what AtHoc does. Specifically, the technology alerts a massive range of devices when a crisis strikes. Supported platforms include iOS, Android, PC and Mac desktops, digital displays, radios, IP phones, and endpoints such as sirens, fire panels, and speakers.

According to the press release, AtHoc technology serves the U.S. Departments of Defense (DoD) and Homeland Security as well as public and private enterprises such as healthcare providers and industrial facilities.

"BlackBerry is making strategic investments in security, privacy and the Internet of Things, and acquiring AtHoc will enable us to provide a holistic, end-to-end approach to communications," said BlackBerry CEO John Chen in the release. He continued:

We have a proud history of securing mission-critical communications for the public sector as well as enterprises operating in the most highly regulated industries. AtHoc's technology and expertise will play a key role as BlackBerry works to connect and secure a broad range of endpoints.

For BlackBerry investors, this is a play to own secure communications on as many regulated networks as possible, reducing the company's need to sell huge volumes of devices to everyday consumers. Also, while AtHoc itself may not be a catalyst, playing to its historic strength in security should help BlackBerry generate more revenue and profit from organizations that already trust its devices.

This $19 trillion industry could destroy the Internet

One bleeding-edge technology is about to put the World Wide Web to bed -- and if you act soon, it could make you rich. Experts are calling it the single largest business opportunity of our time. The Economist is calling it "transformative." But savvy investors could someday call it "how I made my millions." Don't be late to the party.
