Me too. So far a rehash of the acquisitions ...nothing we don't know. So I'm prepared for disappointment....which is pretty sad. No new news = bad news.
One sleeper comment made earlier in the summit was the fact that BlackBerry devices were cleared to hold secret level data on the battlefield. I wonder what is happening with the Android-on-the battlefied devices the Army has been piloting? Hopefully being replaced with BlackBerry's.

Intel and QNX Software Systems talk connected cars
By Megan Alink, Marketing Communications Director for Automotive

How many collaborations in embedded have lasted more than three decades? Our relationship with Intel comes immediately to mind.

Im told it all began in 1981, when the first IBM PCs ran the Intel 8088 microprocessor and were updateable from DOS to the QNX operating system. A quick trip to your local Sears, ComputerLand or IBM Product Center, followed by a call with QNX support, and the most reliable computer the market could offer was all yours.

Fast forward 34 years, and QNX and Intel are still changing the technology landscape. Earlier this summer, Intel announced their plans to work with us on technologies for a variety of connected car applications, including infotainment systems, digital instrument clusters and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Right around that same time, our Andrew Poliak, global director of business development, met up with Ken Obuszewski, director of automotive marketing for Intel, at TU-Automotive Detroit, where they spoke on camera with Bill Hampton from The AutoBeat Group. The topic was, of course, the connected car, and both gentlemen made compelling comments about the future of this exciting aspect of automotive and our mutual plans to deliver:

With the evolution of the connected car, the capabilities that youre seeing in the vehicle are really starting to expand dramaticallyQNX is a long-time leader in the automotive market, Intel were one of the technology leaders making a large investment in automotive, [so] its very natural for us to expand our working relationship and to bring consumers great technologies going forward. Ken Obuszewski

Making systems that can be upgradable and updateable even after you purchase the vehicle so that way it stays fresh and current over the life of the vehicle is really a key foundation of a software platform running in a real[ly] flexible architecture like Intels. Andrew Poliak

Check out the entire video below. Many thanks to our friends at Intel for this opportunity to talk about our shared vision.

What a nonsensical, shortsighted, brainless, deficient and meaningless Formula....

I'm sure the derivaion of this formula began with:

now shhhh.. back to the regularly scheduled program.
Let's see. We have seen the SP trending down on no news for the past few weeks. So recently, no news = bad for the stock.

The presentation was a snore, yes, but by no means does that translate into bad news... ?

i think the SP has been trending down recently based on other issues (like the aftershocks from the last ER)...

... if you think about it, it was "news".... so kinda contradicts the formula in my books...

anyway, try quenching your thirst with something else ! lol

Would it have killed Chen to have mentioned BlackBerry Balance, music, video, iTunes compatibility, even web browser apps, when asked if BlackBerry was working on helping people reduce the number of phones they carry? In this case, iPhone and BlackBerry Classics?

BlackBerry is going to reduce the number of devices introduced each year? Seems like four is the minimum to keep "everyone" happy on the high/low ends of PKB and VKB device preferences. Guess we'll see.

At BlackBerry we're building a camera team to create camera systems for consumer use. Our systems will compete with point-and-shoot camera systems but have at their disposal fast CPUs and internet connectivity opening the doors for new innovations. We need smart software developers with an interest in photography to create a direction for our product and implement it. Turn your photography hobby into a career!

Blackberry PGP Email Encryption Software Offer Latest Security Levels For Latest OS 10 Devices

    Posted on July 22, 2015

Blackberry Encrypted Phones have Blackberry PGP email encrypted devices that offer safe and secure solutions for wireless communications.

Dont just get a BlackBerry. Get BlackBerry PGP encrypted services.

Android and iPhones have proven to be unreliable when it comes to encryption and data protection. These popular devices have been relatively reduced to the status of toys when it comes to industrial or professional grade protection against espionage at any level. No one knows where the compromise begins and ends with these platforms whose very hardware was born with the idea of giving access to those who demanded it from certain levels.

This is not true with the Blackberry PGP phone. It does not seem to be the concerted target of any known or unknown organizations at the hardware level. Regardless, it still requires strong protection at the software level. This is where Blackberry PGP encryption software comes in.

Governments dont like this, which is likely part of the foundation of all of the BlackBerry hate. Does BlackBerry come out of the box with this level of encryption, of course No. Also iOs and Android are not able to offer you the same level of security. A special phone service (subscription), and the leader in sales of this technology is a company called BBPGP.com

    More on the QNX/Intel partnership:

Intel IoT and QNX Software Systems Collaborate on ADAS Solutions

Much like two perfectly synced road trip buddies who have been traveling together for decades, Intel and QNX Software Systems, a subsidiary of BlackBerry, are embarking on a new adventure: advancing in-vehicle technologies that deliver new driving experiences. The collaboration between Intel and QNX on Intel Internet of Things (IoT) for automobiles is already leading to new innovations for dashboard functionality within cars, including infotainment systems, digital instrument clusters and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

This is a great example of Intel’s ongoing commitment to innovation in the auto industry, through collaborations with the world’s leading providers. By working with automotive leaders including Magneti Marelli, Harman, BMW, Porsche, Jaguar Land Rover, Fiat Chrysler Auto (FCA), Ford and GM, we’re delivering rapid and impactful automotive innovation.

“As the automotive electronics industry continues to progress, innovative collaborations are critical to deliver on ever-increasing demands for a safer, more connected driver experience,” Elliot Garbus, vice president and general manager, Intel Transportation Solutions Division, recently said. “Intel and QNX Software Systems have complementary technologies that work together to enhance consumer experiences and help make the promise of connected cars a reality.”

This collaboration will help to accelerate the delivery of ADAS and infotainment services, and is part of Intel’s ongoing work with automakers and in-vehicle infotainment suppliers to help integrate advanced technologies into cars.

“While QNX Software Systems has collaborated with Intel for more than 30 years on a wide range of embedded solutions across many generations of Intel architecture, [this] announcement marks an important milestone of combining QNX software and Intel hardware for cars,” said John Wall, chief operating officer, QNX Software Systems. “QNX and Intel are recognized world leaders in their respective domains and the collaboration provides an exciting opportunity to create compelling and innovative products for the automotive industry.”

News of the collaboration was recently featured in an AutoBeat Insider video interview with Ken Obuszewski, director of automotive marketing for Intel, and Andrew Poliak, global director of automotive for QNX Software Systems.

“With the evolution of the connected car, the capabilities that you’re seeing in vehicles are starting to expand dramatically,” Obuszewski told interviewer Bill Hampton. “QNX is a longtime leader in the automotive market and at Intel we’re one of the technology leaders making a large investment in the automotive industry. It’s very natural for us to expand our working relationship and bring consumers great technologies going forward.”

Those technologies are built on QNX Software Systems’ production-proven open standards software running on Intel’s scalable and secure Intel IoT Platform. QNX Software Systems’ latest version of its QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment runs on the Intel Atom Processor.

“Making systems that can be upgradable and updateable, even after you purchase the vehicle—so that it stays fresh and current over the life of the vehicle—is really a key foundation of the software platform running on a really flexible software architecture like Intel,” said Poliak.

Fueled by decades of success highlighted in this blog post, QNX Software Systems and Intel are paving the road ahead for the connected car of the future. That’s what happens when innovation and collaboration merge onto the road to IoT together.

The masses still can't seem to think outside the box when it comes to BB.... they equate BlackBerry to smartphones...and that's it.

Case n point, take a look at the Live Blog transcripts from the summit this morning that blaze had in the main page... near the end where they posted the Q&A....

After 3 hours of the presentation, someone asked: (I'm paraphrasing)

Q - "Where are the devices?"
A - "This is the Security Summit"

I laughed! But then thought, wow....this is still an issue...and kinda upsetting to still be talking about this.

JC has commented on this before, but wow....another eye-opener for him and his team.....

Why BlackBerry Ltd. Should Sell Itself to Samsung for $19 per Share

    By Benjamin Sinclair - July 23, 2015

BlackBerry Ltd. (TSX:BB)(Nasdaq:BBRY) is undeniably one of Canadas most polarizing stocks.

Supporters of the company point to its renewed focus on software and its stronger balance sheet. They note how far the company has come under new CEO John Chen, even while the stock price is back where it started.

Detractors have a point too. They point to the declining handset sales and service revenue. Even worse, the mobile device management (MDM) market has become far more competitive in the last year. Profitability remains practically nonexistent. And if that wasnt bad enough, BlackBerrys brand seems to be holding back the company.

The fact is, its impossible to know how successful Mr. Chens efforts will be. We also have no idea which way BlackBerrys stock price will go. But heres one thing we can be pretty sure of: Samsung offered US$7.5 billion for BlackBerry back in January. In Canadian dollar terms, that works out to $19 per share.

According to a report by Reuters, BlackBerry rejected the offer, claiming it grossly undervalued the company. But it may be time to revisit the idea. Below we take a closer look.

Why BlackBerry is better off in someone elses hands

As we all know by now, BlackBerry is shifting its focus from handsets to software. Unfortunately the companys sagging handset business seems to be holding back software sales. The reason is simple: enterprise customers are reluctant to buy software from a company they see as in decline. Put simply, BlackBerrys battered brand is hurting software sales.

Mr. Chen seemed to acknowledge this in May while speaking in Kitchener, Ontario. As he put it, Not long ago, the company was in deep deep trouble. We are now out of trouble in terms of financial, but we havent established a growth until that happens nobody will go willingly buy our products.

If BlackBerry were in another companys hands, such as Samsung, it would no longer suffer from that problem.

Samsung is still a great candidate

Samsung is especially suitable for BlackBerry. The company has struggled to gain traction in the enterprise market, which is of course BlackBerrys bread and butter. Better yet, Samsung could make great use of BlackBerrys 44,000 patents as it fights Apple in the courts.

In any case, its hard to imagine BlackBerry being worth more than what Samsung was willing to pay.

    Dont hold your breath

Even though an acquisition makes perfect sense, dont expect it to happen anytime soon. Mr. Chen and the rest of BlackBerrys board are determined to continue the turnaround effort for the time being, and probably wont give up for quite some time.

But eventually, BlackBerry will likely have to be sold, whether the turnaround is successful or not. This is worth keeping an eye on.

BlackBerry is still a roll of the dice. This is a better option.

Blackberry delves deeper into security with AtHoc purchase

    By Joab Jackson
    IDG News Service | July 23, 2015

BlackBerry continues to shift its focus from selling mobile phones to securing themas well as other portable devices, and increasingly connected items that are part of the Internet of things.

These talks will help you reshape how you approach work and see your career in a new light.

All of our investments and acquisitions go to one thing, to make the most secure mobile platform that the industry has to offer, said John Chen, BlackBerry executive chairman and CEO, kicking off a morning of presentations at the company-sponsored BlackBerry Security Summit, held Thursday in New York.

BlackBerry still sells handsets, but, to judge from the days presentations, it clearly sees a brighter future now in enterprise mobile security, where it can best leverage its remaining strengths in the market.

On Wednesday, the company announced it is planning to purchase the Waterloo, Ontario-based AtHoc, which provides a software platform for sending out alert messages to smart phones and other digital devices.

BlackBerrys AtHoc purchasefinancial terms were undisclosedis one of a number of the company has made in the last year to bulk up its security-related software and services. Last year, it purchased SecuSmart, which offered services to encrypt telephone messages.

In April, BlackBerry purchased WatchDox, which offered software to securely share documents across multiple devices.

Thus far, AtHoc has found considerable success in the U.S. market. Its alerts can reach over three million U.S. government personnel, chiefly in the Defense Department and Department of Homeland Security.

BlackBerry plans to roll the AtHoc technology into its own global BlackBerry Messaging service (BBN), offering its customers the capabilities worldwide, said Marty Beard, BlackBerry chief operating officer. Thus far, AtHocs own coverage been largely limited to the U.S.

The AtHoc technology could be used to send out alerts about extreme weather conditions, potentially disruptive events or other vital information. The U.S. Transportation Security Agency uses the technology in airports, for instance, to notify TSA officers when a person of suspicious intent has been identified.

Since the launch of the iPhone in 2007, BlackBerry has lost a considerable chunk of the handset market, as more feature-friendly Android devices and iPhones caught the attention of consumers and business.

When Chen took the helm in November 2013, he focused on the companys strong expertise in securing phones, a by-product of BlackBerrys aggressive pursuit of the government market as well as the market for businesses that require highly secure communications.

The company has since extended BBN to support Android, iOS and mobile Windows devices as well, freeing potential customers from purchasing BlackBerry gear and offering a single platform to manage the security of multiple devices.

The company also plans to move into the rapidly growing Internet of things market, an area that is in dire need of security, said David Kleidermacher, BlackBerry chief security officer, during his presentation.

For the summit, the company demonstrated how easy it is to hack into an infusion pump, a medical device that can deliver morphine or other medications to an ailing patient.

On stage, BlackBerry researcher Graham Murphy walked through the process of gaining entry to the pump, which had an ethernet port and an onboard computer. Using the devices default password, easily discoverable on the Internet, he was able to break into the machine and upload a program that could override the existing software.

The market for machine-to-machine technologies and services will top $4.3 trillion by 2024, the company estimated.

As connectivity increases, the needs for security and privacy exponentially increase, Beard said. As we get into the Internet of things, the real value will come from the data connectivity and the application connectivity.
