EU accuses Google Shopping of search 'abuse' - BBC News

The European Union has filed a complaint against Google over its alleged anti-competitive behaviour.

The competition commissioner said she had issued a "statement of objections", stating that the firm's promotion of its own shopping links amounted to an abuse of its dominance in search.

Ms Vestager also revealed that she had launched an investigation into whether the way Google bundled apps and services for its Android operating system was unfair.

BlackBerry Ltd Sees Large Put Options Volume

BlackBerry Ltd*(NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) stock witnessed an unusually large amount of options trading on Monday. Investors acquired 24,357 put options on the Canadian firm, which is an increase of 126% compared to the average daily put options of 10,777.

    BlackBerry could go for acquisitions?

CEO John Chen has somewhat steered the company to stability as it*presently sits on its largest cash pile ever at $3.2 billion. There are views that the Canadian firm could use the cash to fund acquisitions. In the past year or so, BlackBerry has done a few acquisitions to expand its overall offering package to clients, but there remains room for more.

As of now, BlackBerry is viewed as predominantly a hardware firm, but going forward, as has been asserted by Chen himself, the company expects software growth on the back of future acquisitions. BlackBerry is viewed in high regard by enterprise and government customers,*which*provides the Canadian firm an opportunity to take advantage of critical gaps in security, device management, and other software services at the corporate level is critical, says a report from Seeking Alpha.

    In turnaround phase

BlackBerry, which is in the process of a turnaround, hit its lows in late 2013. However, after Chen took over as CEO, a lot of changes have been introduced to make the company more trim and focused. The balance sheet of the Canadian firm is also in much-better shape now with US$500 million in net debt, equaling 10% of the companys market cap, says a report from Motley. Chen, who is known as a turnaround specialist, enjoys the backing of investors and analysts.

In recent weeks, many analysts have released*their verdicts on BlackBerry. In a research note on March 31, analysts at MKM Partners raised their rating on the stock to Neutral*and assigned a $10 price target. Analysts at Scotiabank, in a research note also on March 31, raised their price target on the Canadian firm to $12.50 and gave the company a Sector Perform rating. Separately, Deutsche Bank AG*(NYSEB) (ETRBK) (FRAB) raised its*rating on BlackBerry to Hold with a price target of $9 in a research note on March 31. Also*analysts at BGC Financial set a $12.50 price target and gave a Buy rating to the stock in a research note on March 31. Presently, BlackBerry has an average rating of Hold and an average price target of $9.87.

I am pleased to say that I was wrong. We just obliterated $9.85 resistance. I would anticipate BBRY will be trading in and around the $10 mark for a while until the next catalyst.

Allez les bleus! ;-) Just some random hate on Barca.. And thanks for sharing: you are always so useful SF! I'm really looking forward these improvements among BlackBerry Protect! It seems Chen and BlackBerry are really taking that thing seriously and aming to become a real synonimous to the word security!

Yeah that is surprising. Usually it bounces off resistance for a good while as the computers sell off at resistence level....nobody wants to sell?

I'm thinking slow steady hill climb to 10.80 by early May.

    I have a lot of stock, a lot of Jan 16 10 and 12s, and some Jan 17 10 and 12.

Personally, I was hoping for a bounce back to 11 with the ER. I think we can still do it but will take a few weeks. If anything this stock has proved range bound and with this ER I don't see that changing. To me it has confirmed it is a traders stock, BlackBerry will not sell to samsung at 15 so I feel I can now trade at least half of it and with little chance to miss out on something big.

Hearing the 100 party is looking to be delayed as hardware sales are tanking and bes uptake is slower than we wanted...I will move my 2016s to 2017 and my target to switch is 10.10-80...not too sure let's see how the next 3 weeks go . If we get up to 10 you should be even on your calls and can make a decision to move to 2017 or just buy stock, or a mix....with the stock somewhere in the 10s.

We are oversold a bit, should bounce. I do think we see some target revisions downward a little bit next week...Probably to 10.50 for those analysts that are higher. The analysts already at or under10 I think they keep their target the same. You saw faucette put his 7 number on the wire again yesterday so no worry about another bs report from him.

One problem is I don't think we have any catalysts until the slider...unless Chen does a news release when we hit 1M classic sales to show hardware is not completely dead. I doubt he would...it looks like he plans to give the analysts NOTHING to use against them now. You will hear what you heard yesterday for the next 4 quarters and very little specific forecasting except expected BIS loss q/q.

I think I need to wait until it crosses $11.50 because my options are still worth only $.31 (my avg purchase is $.82 now). Last time at $9.5, options were trading for $.80+. This time with almost $10, options are only trading for $.31.

So, I think probably need the stock to cross $11 to get back to break-even price.

BlackBerry 10 Slider Is A High-End All Touch

With todays launch of the BlackBerry Leap (check out our full*BlackBerry Leap review), many BlackBerry fans around the world are asking, where is the high-end all-touch device we want?, a question that is completely understandable. Since the launch of the*Passport a power horse device with the latest mobile technologies inside of it its been clear that BlackBerry can make a top shelf, iPhone-competing smartphone. Fans have wanted that same attitude to be focused towards an all-touch device as well.

The last BlackBerry of this type was launched over a year and half ago, and those that decided to get the Z30 are either ready to upgrade, or getting close to it. So the question now becomes, when will we see a high-end all-touch BlackBerry?

This may or may not surprise you, but we already have. The BlackBerry Slider, which was shown off at this years Mobile World Congress, is meant to take the high-end all-touch spot in BlackBerrys portfolio and be the device that so many people are waiting for.

Now, I know what youre thinking: JT, the Slider has a keyboard. Its not an all-touch device. Technically, youre correct. However, weve been assured that the way BlackBerry is designing this device will make it just as useful, slim and attractive*to*both a slider lovers and those that want a touch-only device.

While there could be other all-touch devices being worked on by BlackBerry and we want to make this very clear the Slider is being made for those that want a high end experience without a physical keyboard getting in the way. Yes, the physical keyboard will be there, but it wont shorten the screen, or get in the way when you dont need it.

Its important to remember that the BlackBerry Slider as were calling it for now because there havent been any codenames leaked will feature the same fantastic BlackBerry 10 virtual keyboard that Z10, Z30, and Leap users use when the device is closed. The Call and End buttons will be on-screen as well, so there will no reason for you to have to slide the phone open if you dont want to. Technically speaking, when you purchase the Slider, you could keep it closed out of the box and for the entire lifespan of the device, and never miss a beat. Youll more than likely want to use the keyboard that it has, of course, but you wont have to.*

If youre still not convinced about why this is a good decision on BlackBerrys part, just think about some of the internals this beast of the device is going to have. We discussed the possibility of the Slider being considered a high-end touch-only device by BlackBerry in our podcast about a month ago, and we went over these rumored internals and even confirmed it will have an octa-core processor. Its very possible the Slider could also have a 2K/QuadHD display, a touch-sensitive keyboard, and a few other surprises. Add to that the beautiful design of the curved glass, which were told has a purpose and isnt just for show, and we may be looking at the most innovative device of 2015. No other touch-only device will come close to that.

On a separate note, I hope this type of innovation is reflected in the name BlackBerry chooses for this device. I know it would be dumb to bring back the name Torch, but if you think about it, BlackBerry named a slider (9810), and an all-touch (9850/60) the Torch and it worked. They need to make sure they keep this in mind when marketing this next phone. Since they want both touchscreen lovers and slider fans to go pick one up, the name they choose has to balance that as well as the hardware theyre putting on this device.

I personally cant wait for this phone to be announced, launched, and in my hands. If youre still not excited about the BlackBerry Slider yet, you might want to check your pulse.
