BlackBerry Announces New Cross-platform EMM Cloud for Enterprises and SMBs

Customers Essar Group and Tarpon Energy Services Ltd. deploying BES12 for flexible, easy management of enterprise mobility

BARCELONA, SPAIN--(Marketwired - March 2, 2015) - MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS 2015 - BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQ:BBRY)(TSX:BB), a global leader in mobile communications, today announced BES12™ Cloud, a cloud-based enterprise mobility management solution that will offer easy management of iOS, Android™, Windows Phone, BlackBerry 10 smartphones and tablets, as well as a wide range of Samsung KNOX and Android for Work smartphones and tablets. BES12 Cloud will offer customers more flexibility and choice in managing their mobile solution while supporting a broad range of device mobility policies, all through a simple browser interface and without complicated or expensive server installs.

A recent IDC Technology Spotlight underscored BlackBerry's unique position in the enterprise market: "BlackBerry has taken the initiative to consider current and future EMM scenarios, and rearchitect its EMM offering in a way that exhaustively addresses them. IDC believes BES12 meets the market's extraordinarily complex requirements by delivering a modern platform to manage all endpoints.1"

BES12 Cloud provides all the core functionality of the on-premise design of BES12, but with greater ease and simplicity to manage and deploy. The BES12 platform is a cross-platform EMM solution that sits at the center of a secure enterprise mobility ecosystem that extends beyond EMM to communications, collaboration, and identity and access management. BES12 Cloud offers 100 percent online registration and purchase process and it only takes minutes from purchase to EMM service availability in the cloud. Low monthly subscriptions also include BlackBerry's award winning technical support.

"BlackBerry always commits to deliver secure and innovative products to help our customers drive productivity and efficiency in their organizations, while reducing costs," said Billy Ho, Executive Vice President, Enterprise Products and Value Added Solutions, BlackBerry. "Close relationships with our customers and partners is why we have announced our commitment to delivering a new BES12 Cloud solution later this month and delivered enhancements to BES12 and BBM Meetings today, continuing the expansion and evolution of our offering."

BES12 Cloud will provide expanded cross-platform EMM capabilities to securely manage any mobile deployment model such as BYOD, COPE and COBO, and will leverage BlackBerry's trusted global infrastructure. BES12 Cloud is geared towards enterprises looking to manage mobile devices, protect their corporate data and enable employee productivity. Its simple setup and configuration also makes it easy for small and medium businesses (SMBs) to adopt cross platform MDM and take advantage of cloud-based productivity and collaboration solutions like BlackBerry Blend and BBM Meetings.

In a recent global study of individuals responsible for governance, risk and compliance in their enterprise, 77 percent reported that it is increasingly difficult to balance the needs of the business and those of the end user when it comes to mobility2. The span of capabilities offered by BES12 along with BlackBerry's unmatched security is why organizations such as Essar Group and Tarpon Energy Services Ltd. have selected BES12 as their EMM vendor of choice.

"We have implemented BES12 in our organization to cater to the needs of EMM in our environment and are planning to trial the new BES12 Cloud solution," said Jayantha Prabhu, Chief Technology Officer, Essar Group. "Our BYOD policy allows employees to have a choice. For example, some of our users have opted to upgrade to the BlackBerry 10 platform, especially those who want the QWERTY keyboard experience and have chosen a device like the BlackBerry Classic, while others are using Android, iOS or Windows devices. BES12 helps us manage all of this, with the peace of mind that our corporate data remains secure."

In addition to launching BES12 Cloud later this month, new enhancements to BES12 on-premise are now available. Key features and benefits of BES12 version 12.1 include:
•Government and Security Enhancements for BlackBerry 10: Enhancements build upon the end-to-end security enabled by vertical integration of BES12 EMM, BlackBerry Global Network Infrastructure and the BlackBerry 10 platform. New administrator capabilities include the ability to restrict and control access to specific BlackBerry 10 OS versions, configure message classification rules for work email, and perform wired activation of BlackBerry 10 devices with BES12 within tightly controlled, centralized deployments.

•Enhanced Android Management: BES12 version 12.1 adds support for Samsung KNOX Standard, the first phase of the BlackBerry and Samsung partnership which offers enhanced Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Mobile Application Management (MAM) controls for Samsung Android devices. Support for the KNOX Workspace is planned for an upcoming release of BES12 which will also feature BlackBerry Secure Connectivity.

•Enhanced Administrator Experience: Enhancements to the streamlined BES12 administrator experience include seamless administrator sign-on into the BES12 console without requiring login credentials and dynamic support for new BES12 IT policy controls as new OS updates are introduced.

    BBM Meetings Enhancements

BBM™ Meetings is a multi-OS mobile first voice and video conferencing solution that makes it easy for mobile professionals to schedule, join or instantly start meetings when they're on the go. New enhancements announced today for BBM Meetings include a Microsoft Outlook plugin that enables customers to directly schedule and start a BBM Meeting from the Microsoft Outlook client. This allows customers to use BBM Meetings just as seamlessly from their Windows desktop as they already do from their mobile device. Additional enhancements to BBM Meetings announced today include automatic scaling for shared screen viewing, enhanced in-meeting privacy controls for participants, and streamlined audio prompts when joining by phone dial-in.

    BBM Protected Enhancements

BBM Protected provides enterprise-grade encryption for BBM messages between iPhone, Android and BlackBerry smartphones. An enhancement to BBM Protected announced today extends the security of BBM Protected conversations to non-BBM Protected users. Now all conversations initiated by a BBM Protected user can be secured, regardless of whether the other person is a BBM Protected user or not. Once the BBM Protected connection is established with the non-BBM Protected user, either user can initiate a secure chat environment. With this enhancement, now an enterprise using BBM Protected can be assured that all of their employees' communications are fully protected, even when communicating outside of their company. An upcoming release of BBM Protected also includes an auto-passphrase feature, which makes the passphrase exchange happen automatically and seamlessly between two parties in a BBM Protected conversation. IT Administrators will have the option to turn on either feature via the Enterprise Identity by BlackBerry administration console.

    Pricing and Availability

BlackBerry Launches Cloud Version of Mobile Security Software - WSJ

    By BEN DUMMETT
    March 2, 2015 7:43 a.m. ET

BlackBerry Ltd. announced Monday a cloud version of its mobile security software, its latest move to win business from its traditional government and business customers.

The Canadian smartphone maker designed the BES12 technology, launched in November, to work across mobile operating platforms to help it generate sales even though its share of the smartphone market has dwindled to less than 1%. The mobile-device management software allows companies to securely manage employee BlackBerrys, iPhones and Android-powered devices among others used on corporate networks.

With the cloud version of BES12, BlackBerry aims to win new business from small and midsize companies that don’t have the resources to install BES12 on site, by making the software available online. BlackBerry also expects the offering to appeal to divisions and subsidiaries of larger enterprise customers.

It is “enabling us to really broaden our footprint,” Marty Beard, BlackBerry’s chief operating officer, told reporters ahead of the announcement.

BlackBerry has no plans to stop selling its own devices. But after a failed effort in 2013 to compete against Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. in the consumer market, the company is placing greater emphasis on selling higher margin mobile software that companies can deploy, no matter the type of device their employees use, to reboot revenue and profit growth.

The company is counting on BES12 sales to double its software sales next fiscal year to $500 million.

Still, BlackBerry’s on-premise and cloud versions of its mobile-device management software face competition from several rivals including Citrix Systems Inc. and MobileIron Inc.

Slightly OT but with some food for thought:
Samsung?s Galaxy Plots Course Out of Google Orbit ? Heard on the Street - WSJ

Samsung Electronics ’ new flagship phones are a big improvement over previous lackluster models. But it still has a ways to go before it can break free of Google ’s suffocating embrace.

Samsung badly needs a hit. Remarkably, Apple sold as many or more phones as the Korean giant in the fourth quarter, despite offering far fewer models. In China, Samsung has fallen behind Xiaomi and other local players that offer cheaper phones built around the same Android software.

The Samsung Galaxy S6, unveiled in Barcelona over the weekend, has won positive initial reactions from reviewers. Mostly, this reflects relief that it is made with metal and glass, rather than the plastic that gave previous Galaxy phones a cheap feel.

The “Edge” version of the phone with a wraparound screen could be dismissed as a hardware gimmick, but it successfully shows off Samsung’s lead in display technology. The company is the dominant manufacturer of organic light-emitting diode displays, which can be bent into novel shapes.

Reviewers also cautiously praised the simplified software, which has fewer of the company’s own additions to Google’s basic Android platform. This, however, only underscores that Samsung’s core strategic dilemma remains the same: Users want something close to stock Android, but if Samsung obliges, it becomes less differentiated.

A deal with BlackBerry announced Sunday shows the possible way forward. Samsung will incorporate BlackBerry’s encryption technology and some business-friendly software features into its phones, making them better for enterprise and government use. This is the kind of ecosystem development that can give a Samsung a real edge, both against Apple and the hordes of Android-powered competitors.

Samsung is also hoping that its new payment service will give it an advantage. Google had recently struck a deal with three big U.S. wireless carriers for its own service, Google Wallet, to be preinstalled on Android phones. But Samsung hopes its version will gain wider acceptance, since it will be usable with traditional credit-card readers that already exist everywhere.

Investors applauded Samsung on Monday, sending its shares up 4.6%. It is still dependent on Google, but Samsung’s latest moves show the company at least has a plan to strike out on its own.
Is it me or is this S6 more "BB like"? Cleaner design, metal frame, simplified user interface, etc.?

Traders play trends and the volatility game. Investors hold based on a value position. So, if you feel that the buisness will succeed and agree with the moves being made hold...until you feel otherwise.

So, I've been lurking this thread for a while as well as the stock and just based on BBRY history, it looks like it will pop up today (if it doesn't today there's a problem lol), why do I have a gut feeling that the gains won't hold?

The stock is finally now where it was a bit ago and this ER will be another and likely the last transitional ER before we see some growth in the divisions. I just have seen this stock shoot up and then take a 1% hit a day for no apparent reason too many times.

Not sure this ER is going to be that impressive to WS although IMO I thought last ER was positive showing BlackBerry was able to eek out a profit on much lower revenue. Personally, I've always thought BlackBerry is undervalued and should be around $20 now.

I guess my point is for all those longs do you take some profit today and return when the inevitable no reason drop after drop occurs? As for me, last year I had opened an account against all advice with the little $ I had with BlackBerry as 100% of my portfolio lol (very little money, so not much to diversify and all that good stuff)... was around $7 and sold at $10 sometime at the end of the year. Was new to trading and the volatility was crazy as usual!

Was convinced BlackBerry was way undervalued! Anyway, back on topic, is there any reason these gains will actually hold? BlackBerry is a rough ride, I dipped my foot in last year and eventually sold out. The roller-coaster made me sick lol.

I'm guessing having BlackBerry as all of my "portfolio" is different than many of you guys with the money to actually invest and hold multiple positions. That would offset some of the manipulation of BlackBerry I guess. Still think it's just a matter of time now for the stock to head towards $20, but don't see it until June ER although I'm sure FG will be positive this quarter.

Just thought I'd get involved after lurking for so long. You would think these gains would hold since they aren't based on rumors (buyout), but again I've seen this so many times... the stock goes up on good news, more people short and manipulate... then the stock goes down!

IMO, the gains will mostly hold because they have more big announcements tomorrow when they release the roadmap. There is no doubt that Chen will deliver something big on the hardware side, especially considering his emphasis on not shutting down the devices business.

The hardware hype will carry us a few more days and then we're into the pre-earnings run-up.

I think there is potential that the ER will bring us down, but I also think it could surprise based on the strength of other security company's ERs lately. It could also fortify the stability of BlackBerry and change the pricing theory from a company on the fall, to a company in the upswing of its growth. In the latter case, we could end up in the 15-20$ range that many believe is fair value based on assets and growth potential.

Is BBRY shopping a new logo at MWC? If so, this is a very smart move. The old logo was too bland. this thing pops! Make the outline the busy icon!

Agree completely, was going to edit initial post... as I said I've seen good news prop the stock only for it to fall to extreme lows this year that aren't even close to the value I see. Also, since all of the incoming press releases aren't rumor, I don't see a huge up + down as with the Samsung buyout.

I guess it seems it is a matter of when WS sees the company for what it is worth now, not just a handset division. Clearly, the initial focus on security and software seems to be intentional by BlackBerry. I think the company should really be evaluated from when Chen came on board and as I believe he said during the last ER, "they are not listening to what I'm saying" in reference to the future of BB. It could have been an interview. I'm a bit foggy on that, but it will also be interesting what the hardware division comes up with!

I think this ER could go either way, but think the forward guidance will be stellar. I was completely in shock while MOBL traded above BBRY for so long. Just did not make any sense for anybody following Chen's plan. So far he has been on target and I really think the NEXT ER will be a huge breakout. Hopefully sooner though for you guys.

Anyway, just figured I'd chime in every now and then since I'm constantly reading this thread! Enjoying my Passport and wouldn't trade it for anything. A bit jealous that Android and iOS are getting some of our goodies, but what's best for the company works. As Chen as said, his job is to create value.

Was just curious as to those that may sell on the ups this week considering the history of the down and down and down that has occurred for over a year now! Today should be a good day either way for BBRY shareholders though :-)
