I'm a candle newbie, but to my unaided eye it looks like an inverted hammer. If BBRY opens higher tomorrow, it might confirm a bullish trend.

That was a textbook TA day, we lead off with yesterday's closing support, a favourable general market and a TA pop in the stock. We ran up to some resistance and promptly dropped back to form a completed Head & Shoulders pattern which then sent us back to the starting line for tomorrow. We will likely repeat this again assuming that the DOW still wants to make an all time high on this run. BBRY has some work ahead of it to clear resistance at $ 10.90 shr, good start so far.

Edit: now that I read it I can say that it's more positive than past Engadget reviews which is good. But I feel brad missed out on some of the things that make this thing good at being a phone: call quality, reception, speakers. Things BlackBerry did to make it stand out.

I agree, but, he did punch out 4700 words for the review which far exceeds the norm. And he did it all on the Passport. And a decent article in the bargain.

Very refreshing blog post from iphone/andrid user who switched to Q10. http://www.stozzaudio.com/blackberry...e?rq=BLACKBERR

Summary: Cool story but whats the point?

Well that is the point, for the first time I find that my phone has become a practical addition to my life rather than a frustrating distraction. The Iphone software is too broken up to consider using without having to go in and out of apps and its even worse with android which can feel like a bit of a mess at times. Blackberry is simple, super fast and super productive. Its slick and with the addition of the 10.3 operating system which I will review soon it really is the best operating system on the market right now if you want to get work done. I have toys, I have cameras what I wanted was a communication device and to that regard Chen and Co have smashed the ball out of the park. Its time that we let people know how the game has changed.

I think it depends on the cost of subscription. How often and how much we will be charged is important. If it's a stupid amount, folks will pass on it and keep Snapchat instead.

Not worried about ppl passing on it. I'm worried about ppl getting ticked because suddenly it's not available and if they want it back they will have to pay for it. Just sounds like a pr/marketing nightmare. Just too many possible ways it could go wrong....

BlackBerry upgrades BBM with timed messages | PCWorld

To turn around the company’s fortunes, Blackberry needs to find revenue streams beyond smartphone sales, and the company is hoping BBM users are willing to open their wallets. If each of the 91 million active BBM users had paid US$2.50, BlackBerry would have made a profit instead of loss during its second quarter, which ended Aug. 30.

They will make millions on Enterprise with BBM, it is secure and I have seen some of the coolest Channels at some of the largest law firms and real estate developers around. A major developer has gone crazy developing channels for their employees and they have less than 15% BlackBerry phones there. The one law firm I know well has all BB's now and they are buying Passports today. I talked to a Doctor at our local hospital on Tuesday and they are buying some Passports too, this phone is a big hit and Private BBM will sell to these groups.

Thanks for all of your great information Corbu!!

Well, I suppose they've got to make money on the thing. Folks aren't going to want a load of ads, so they need to offer some kind of premium BBM to consumers. So long as people know it's a free trial, it should be okay. What will annoy people is a stupid price for it. BlackBerry have specialised in stupid pricing over the last few years, but hopefully they've learnt.

I was going thru the transcripts of Harman last night and found some interesting tidbits from the Q&A section re:QNX. Harman is one of the largest Infotainment Audio systems developer for cars, etc so they know the industry very well. Also, remember they used to own QNX before RIM bought it in 2010?? President talks about how far QNX is against all the competitors. There's even a reference to the hacked Android based info system. Some of the stuff we already know but it's nice to hear it from someone who is in the game.
Sorry it's a bit long but...

Here's a question from Ravi of Morgan Stanley and the reply from Dinesh Paliwal - CEO and President of Harman

Ravi Shanker - Morgan Stanley, Research Division
Okay, fine. And just finally, Dinesh, you are a member of Google's Open Automotive Alliance. And I believe, obviously, [indiscernible] a big GM contract, I believe the GM system is an OAA product. Can you characterize the nature of your work with GM and Google? I mean, what kind of a role you're playing? And how is that may be different from some of the German contracts you have on the custom side or some other scalable business?

Dinesh C. Paliwal - Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President
Sure. It's a very good question, Ravi. But first, of all, let me just define our understanding of what OAA is that the member companies in OAA get the early access to the latest version of Android operating system, which is very good because we're in the development phase so we need to have access 6, 9 months before the market sees it. And other thing, which in the long list of lots of member companies, they're actually taking Google Automotive Link and implementing it. And that has been good development. We are also doing it. What the unique part we are doing when we say we're creating reference software and hardware, we are also working with Google to take what is available and write OS and make it automotive-grade ready, which is exactly, if you remember, HARMAN did about 10 years ago, 8 years ago, with QNX. It was not an automotive grade. And that means, right now, the current Android-based operating system had a very high startup time, unlike QNX, which is extremely lightning fast. So this is a lot of time and effort is going in on behalf of HARMAN. And this will help, by the way, other companies eventually, but it's always -- a one life cycle behind. So we feel good about it. So this is the development we are doing with GM. And also, Ravi, this infotainment system will enable, as a flexible software architecture, to embrace and accept various apps developed by any community, those who already qualified, whether it's HARMAN, GM. Talked to GM, last week, executives, they themselves think that they will continue to drive some of the apps. We will obviously drive it. We're doing it now. Other companies and many more to come because GM is also big in China. I think Baidu and many other companies are looking at working with -- we have actually R&D center together with China Automotive Association. So I think all in all, GM is the very first one to see how so many apps developers can partner and benefit the consumers.

And a few questions from David Leiker and replies from Dinesh.

David Leiker - Robert W. Baird & Co. Incorporated, Research Division
I just want to follow up on one of the things Ravi was talking about and years driving with this, making the Android automotive grade. What's the advantage of using Android in automotive grade versus using Linux Auto, which is really just a separate, a different version of the Android?

Dinesh C. Paliwal - Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President
Yes. So Android has lot more following and lot more opportunity for the apps development community versus Linux. Other than that, automakers have used different operating system. QNX is still very widely used, and some people are using Linux. And by the way, we are also developing our system in Linux. So we are truly agnostic. And even QNX now, we're starting to see quite a bit of momentum. The next thing would be HTML5 development, which will really bring in a whole new experience for the consumers. So it's the apps environment which will influence which way and what traction Android will get. It's still too early because it's a 90% QNX world even today.

David Leiker - Robert W. Baird & Co. Incorporated, Research Division
Yes, and your next-generation scalable system is, I believe, is written in the Android, right?

Dinesh C. Paliwal - Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President
It's in Android. It's already in QNX because that has given us -- most of our backlog is in QNX-based scalable. We are developing in Android. We are also developing in Linux.

David Leiker - Robert W. Baird & Co. Incorporated, Research Division
And that system, the next-generation system you showed was 2 years ago?

Dinesh C. Paliwal - Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President
Yes, what we showed at CES 2013, that was Android-based operating system, operating system-based system, where we did show the hypervisor, which is unique, because the hackers, as you might have noticed, even some cars coming from West Coast, they were hacked, unfortunately. The seatbelts came off and all kind of unexpected behaviors were shocking. So really, to be very careful that we continue to do very robust software application development so that we can protect the mission critical car functionality. And that's why car companies are so focused on onboard infotainment, David, as you know, and at the same time, we are bringing in all kind of smart devices in the car company. And frankly, if we can continue in that direction as Sachin and his team has, that will continue to define our leadership.

My old broker at BMO Nesbitt Burns called me yesterday to say other brokers in his office already have the Passport and that he was getting rid of his old Samsung and getting a Passport, mostly because I have been hammering home to him how fabulous the device is and a perfect BYOD at BMO. This device along with Classic are going to propel BlackBerry forward to positive cash flow in short order, not to mention BBM value added features and BES12 release in November. Patience is the name of the game!
John Chen is oozing confidence at the moment...its so obvious with his lovely Cheshire Cat Smile
