I really wish Chen worded this a different way. If he isn't going to give specific numbers (like the 200,000 in a couple hours) then he should've just said demand is far greater than what our forecast was. It makes it seem like they barely made any.

We took a very conservative approach and didnt order too many.
He is known as a realistic man, it's better than promising we will sell millions but end up with a billion dollar write down

What Does the Man on the Street Think of the BlackBerry Passport? | Inside BlackBerry

“Based on my own research, people want the Passport because it’s different from the Apple norm we’ve been seeing since the first iPhone was introduced seven years ago. It has ‘cool’ and ‘I’m important’ written all over it. If BlackBerry can succeed in ‘bringing sexy back,’ the Passport – and perhaps BlackBerry – has a real shot at becoming the new status symbol for a population desperately looking for something new.”

FWIW: Not sure if this was posted earlier, but this could be the UK firm involved.

"Aviva reportedly moved impacted staff onto a new Blackberry 10 service to manage all their Apple devices, and are in discussions with MobileIron reseller Esselar to cancel their contract."

I like the fact that we are seeing "Sold Out" signs all over the world but...
Lets not get ahead of ourselves gang.

What we can discern from the sold out signs is limited.
Clearly, there is a segment of the consumer population that is looking for a productivity tool.
There is a second segment that is looking for a standout device to separate them from the flock.

Things we don't know are; how limited is the supply? How fast can production be ramped up? Is Passport cannibalizing other BB10 sales?
We'll have to wait until next ER to answer those questions. The Overall Market has entered a correction phase due to wildly overbought conditions and global instability.
If I had the cash, I'd average down. Since I don't, I'm playing the Long game and waiting for the market to turn.

    Stay Calm and BlackBerry On!

Exactly. I am just as much a BlackBerry fan as anyone here, but I equate success according to what I see around me. I can surely say that in 3 weeks of having this device, I have not even seen a single one person with a Passport. I talked to the local Telus stores on launch, and mine had 2 units (I bought one), and the other had only a display unit.

Unless Vancouver is an anomaly, something seems off.

PS - DANG! I missed the pop!

I saw a Passport in a meeting I went to. The company's owner has one. They're a restoration firm in Cambridge ON.

True. I also think John Chen didn't have too much faith in Passport. He was more excited about Classic. So, demand for Passport is probably a surprise to him as well.
