As far as I know, BlackBerry doesn't offer infrastructure wide security, just MDM. Just being fair while understanding the value of the security that BlackBerry brings, I don't see how BlackBerry could have helped UPS or Target.

Larger questions should be asked around the security of the enterprise wide infrastructure, however cases like these will bring more attention to the issues at hand and probably force CIOs to consider more secure alternatives going forward whether for MDM or at higher levels in the enterprise infrastructure.

You're right. This data was breached via malware.

I find this interesting given that UPS recently announced they are dumping Blackberry devices for employees in favor of Android and Apple. They CLEARLY don't have security as a priority.

Heads will roll at UPS. The breach, albeit small compares to the Target breach, made it to Time.com

I've read a bit on this before. Going to be at least 5 yrs before it's even released to public...... if at all.

Great idea but not too sure if it's practical in actual use. And the potential for security problems are astronomical. Just create a attachment (like camera or wifi transmitter) that is compromised and you are screwed. Would be almost impossible to keep this device secure.

There were posts recently somewhere in these forums linking to Gizmodo articles. Wasn't DARPA/military showing interest in Project Ara because of the myriad of combinations they could pit together? Along the lines of attach a sensor module to detect "this," then swap another to detect "that.". Sorry I don't have the links.

Would be cool if BlackBerry partnered with Boeing on their self destructing "black phone" for on the battlefield usage. But I believe Boeing is using Android since the military has reportedly been testing Android phones since 2011.
