BBM for iOS does have problems. I have been in touch with BBM iOS product development team and they've admitted to some problems. A lot depends on how your end user uses BBM for iOS. Let me explain ([I]and this has been discussed with BBM iOS team already and they've admitted to it, so I am not making it up. I used to work for BBRY R&D in 2008 straight out of school, so still have some friends there... .

Chrysaurora, you should post that message in the BBM for iOS thread. And with the news of a new update can you check with your buddies and find out if they have wrestled any of the issues to the ground? Thanks in advance!

Fitch Ratings-Singapore/Sydney-12 August 2014: Samsung's and Apple's global smartphone shipment market share will decline to around 25% and 14%, respectively, by 2015 (2013: 31% and 15%), says Fitch Ratings. The decline will be due largely to rising competition in emerging markets, where lower-priced handset models from local competitors should continue to gain market share at the expense of the big two. In these markets, where cost is relatively more important than global brand strength or cutting-edge technology, competitors' devices retailing at USD100-300 can offer most of the key features of more expensive phones from Samsung and Apple.

We expect the big two's combined smartphone shipment volume to stagnate at around 450 million-460 million units in 2014 (2013: 467 million), even as the global smartphone market rises by around 20% to 1.2 billion.

Fitch estimates that smartphones account for roughly two-thirds of the global handset market, and we believe growth will come largely from emerging markets. India and China together are expected to account for over 60% of growth in smartphone shipment volumes. Local handset makers including China's Xiaomi, Lenovo, Huawei and India's Micromax Informatics are the principal large competitors for Apple and Samsung.

According to data from IDC, global smartphone shipment volumes increased by 5% in 2Q14 to 295 million units (1Q14: 281 million units). In China, Xiaomi took the lead with 15 million devices with a market share of 15% - ahead of Samsung's 12%, which shipped 13.2 million smartphones.

Concurrently, developed markets' smartphone profitability should also continue to decline, as market saturation and the lower incremental benefits of new models has lengthened the replacement cycle and slowed growth. Competition has also intensified as more manufacturers have been able to produce devices which exceed most consumers' design and technical requirements.

Apple's next iPhone, rumoured to be launched in September 2014, is likely to have a larger screen, and developments are likely to be incremental rather than revolutionary. We believe that the innovations - which include curved screens and compatible wearable devices - are unlikely to change the trend facing Samsung and Apple.

Nevertheless, we do not expect these trends to affect Samsung's credit rating (A+/Stable). Our analysis has always assumed that smartphone margins of the last few years were unsustainable in the long term. For some time, Samsung's ratings have been constrained by its long-term exposure to cyclical businesses and investment-intensive markets, despite very strong financial metrics.

Also while this was announced a few days ago, the guys who discovered it are presenting at Black Hat - in effect peer review of their work - which is outstanding you want what they found out and understood in their industry.

That's why it's back in the news.

True...however they released the info in early June, it was blogged and reported on in early June and BlackBerry CSO commented on it in early June...I do not think it's "news" now because they are speaking/ presenting at Black Hat. Is it news again when they talk at Sea? Is it news again if they present next year somewhere else?

Agree 100% with him and He is not sugar coating or BSing. I work as security analyst and deal with the compliance requirements including credit cards process such as PCI, privacy compliance requirements ( most strict here in BC, Canada ) and other IT security standards and open source which is community coded can never be certified. It might be secure as others but no one company or source can put a signature behind it and most CIOs and regulated industries just require that signature of assurance and liability to cover their **** and shift the liability to vendors. Only private and closed systems can be assured and certified unless audit trail can be provided and proven that all programmers used best practices to code the OS, systems.
I think BB has the best opportunities in the new IoT world which is next phase after after smart phones boom. They just have to get it right and execute. I won';t be surprised if Microsoft, Google or apple interested in buying BB.
