I really like this part in this Forbes article, sorry if this was posted I didnt go back a few pages.

During BlackBerry’s security event held in New York City this week, I heard something I have not heard publicly or privately from a single client of any vendor. Not One. Ever. The statement was bold and seems unrehearsed.

Peter Lesser, Director of Global Technology for New York Law firm Skadden, Arps , Slate, Meagher and Flom said that its corporate clients that have strict compliance routinely audit his firms technology and process on securing data. Lesser said that when the question of mobile security comes up and he answers; “BlackBerry, there are never follow up questions.” He said it was quite clear that the auditors see BlackBerry as the gold standard. Perhaps relevant but not disclosed during the event, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Torys LLP are both BlackBerry customers an serve as legal advisors to the company.

Even more interesting, the WP marketshare declined from 5% to 3.8 %.
For a platform which wants to compete in the consumer market a scary development.
BlackBerry with a clear/different focus is in a much better shape, even with less marketshare IMO.

Maybe a signal for the carriers to try BlackBerry again.

But I love this comment from James Carlini:

I agree - Mr. KIA could write a better article.

But reviewing the focus on this article - the author states:

"....And by joining hands with IBM, the corporate duo will introduce more than 100 enterprise-focused business apps. This should, in theory, further strengthen Apple's enterprise market position."

Talk about buying off on Smoke-and-Mirrors. Did you ever take a product from inception to commercialization? Ever work in a tech company?

An "announcement" is not a deliverable. It takes time and I don't see one app on the street yet from IBM/Apple.

Some good wisdom to adopt, whether you are buying or selling technology - or even writing about it- here is a quote from Hal Geneen, the former ITT Chairman:

In business, words are words,
Explanations are explanations,
Promises are Promises, but only
Performance is Reality.

IBM and Apple are at the "words" point when it comes to delivering apps. To say, "......the Canadian smartphone vendor has lost its market share to Apple." is a bit of a premature stretch.

Come back about January 2015. You have to give BlackBerry some time for this turnaround. You suffer from premature speculation.

Secusmart boss expects Germany to approve sale to BlackBerry

The German government will not raise any objections to BlackBerry’s planned acquisition of Secusmart, whose encryption technology protects the devices of government officials including Angela Merkel, the head of the company said.

If the technology lies in the micro-sd card, what exactly did BBRY buy by acquiring SecuSmart? I haven't researched SS much, but I was under the impression that they provided the enhanced security via the micro-sd card. Thx

Culture shock: BlackBerry’s John Chen ushers in much-needed change

Sometimes it’s the small moments that speak volumes.

Tuesday morning, as I waited in a crowded lobby at New York’s Museum of Arts and Design with other journalists, analysts and customers for organizers of the BlackBerry Security Summit to let us into the adjacent theatre for the main event, I suddenly found myself being gently shoved from behind by a slowly opening door.

It was about 15 minutes to showtime, but CEO John Chen couldn’t wait to get started. He apologized for barging in, and before anyone could put down their bagels and juice, he was in the middle of our informal circle, joking offhand about how his PR people hated when he did this, and how glad he was that we had come from near and far to hear him and his leadership team speak.

He bantered with us for about five minutes, amiably answering questions and tossing in the occasional good-natured barb about the competition, before he headed back inside to finish last-minute preparations.

Opening up the doors

For a company once known as a monolithic fortress of sorts, where CEOs were about as accessible as North Korean strongman Kim Jong Un at a pro-democracy demonstration, this impromptu, unscripted encounter with the CEO reinforced just how much has changed since Chen took the job eight months ago.

He has quickly established himself as the de facto face of the company, and isn’t shy about speaking his mind in ways that might make more conventionally-minded CEOs skitter back to their cue cards and media minders.

John Sims, BlackBerry’s President of Global Enterprise Services, says Chen’s personality aligns nicely with where the company needs to be.

“I’ve known John for a while,” he told Yahoo Canada Finance. “He’s very decisive, and he’s transparent inside the company. He’s had to deal with some very difficult things. He had to restructure the company to get it to the right size, but he was very above-board with employees about that and I think they’ve appreciated that.”

He was hardly the only employee speaking positively of the boss. Other staff echoed his thoughts and spoke of the night-and-day change from the way things used to be.

The benefits of transparency

Sims, who previously crossed paths with Chen at German software giant SAP, which bought Sybase for US$5.8 billion in 2010 after Chen had successfully turned the database and mobile enterprise software specialist around, said the internal focus on changing BlackBerry’s culture has had a broader impact.

“He’s very transparent externally, as well, and customers appreciate that,” he said. “He’s very quick at making decisions. He doesn’t put things off to tomorrow or next week or next month. Generally speaking that’s been a very productive environment for the company to operate within.”

Sims, who joined BlackBerry as part of an influx of new leadership after Chen’s arrival, says the appeal of the new culture was difficult to resist.

“The opportunity that existed within BlackBerry for the team of people – the existing team and the new ones who came in – is to return a company that was iconic and provided the definition of mobile enterprise back to the status it should have within the industry,” he said. “I’m excited about that opportunity, and I think it’s why most of us who came in came in. It’s challenging, but it’s fun.”

As BlackBerry continues its journey toward a very different, enterprise-focused future, it’s already evident that the culture being built by John Chen is attracting like-minded leaders, engaging employees, and encouraging customers who may have wondered whether BlackBerry was in it for the long haul. The company’s future is, of course, still not a slam dunk. But if my small experience in the hallway yesterday is any example, stakeholders have every reason to buy into Chen’s vision for a once and future enterprise darling.

I'm hanging around, haven't posted because I underwent some surgery and I'm still in recovery. The halt on HALO is due to a meeting with ADCOM and the FDA on the use of Hylenex in America. They are asking Baxter Int. questions about the drug and they will vote at noon on whether to recommend the drug be approved by the FDA. The news will be material to the price of the stock so they halted it. We are waiting for their decision and have no access to the question period with Baxter and HALO staff.

As for BBRY, I like the deal they made with Securesmart?? excellent for the long term but it was a cash burden on the company and likely a cash draw for a couple of years until they can make some EPS on it. This is why the stock didn't move, kind of like QNX, an excellent deal but there was no financial driver for that company when it was purchased either.

It is only a no brainer that will question the security of Blackberry, if the spying country (US) President can only have a blackberry that's speak for itself.

I'm down quite a bit in HALO and hoping that they can regain some momentum (along with the rest of the sector). BBRY seems like it'll settle into a decent range and I think I'll keep my core and start trading a portion on a daily/weekly basis. This is a much better forum to get decent news from as the BB Stockhouse bullboard has become "unreadable". so glad you're all here.
