WOW! Powerful statements, SF! Thank you!

There has been some excellent content in here lately. Glad to see this thread alive and well! Keep up the great work, gang!

PS - I think I only have one "thanks" left on the day, so I'll be sure to use it wisely!
When I am in that position, I always save it for Mr Chen!

In an industry where name brand means a lot how does going "white label" help BlackBerry?
Because when you adress a highly fragmented yet targeted market ("prosumers") with moderate to low margins ("BES in the Cloud" sub was expected "as low as a coffee per month per user"), you'd better have a bunch of partners to address them, either as vertical, regional or specific targets ... unless you *really* have deep pockets.
At the end of the day, we don't care if the device user don't know it is BlackBerry powered (one day or the other, he'll know). But these offers will demo IRL the reliability and scalability (let's just guess how many users will enroll), the kind of proof that worse $millions of "marketing" for any informed CIO.

IMHO, the point here is to nail BES10 as an THE indisputable standard, anything else is "cherry on the cake".

    [speculations]
Also, for the initial question about "why aren't they doing this themselves ?", it's not clear yet if BlackBerry provide the network (as a cloud-based soulution". They could delegate the commercial part ... only.

I am sorry but I will just take the example of apple. Almost Everything that apple Is making money on, blackberry can also sell under their brand name. The rest of the things like qnx, they can have white label and have others promote for them.

Posted using Z30. Best of the best Smart phone in the world.
But under white label, their brand isn't marketed. Unless you are a developer or have a need to dig (competitor), virtually no one will know it's QNX under the white label. That doesn't help BlackBerry much.

Sadly the brand name commands the $$$, while the white label only gets $. Apple and Google are probably making far more per vehicle than BlackBerry is even though QNX is doing all the hard work.

So....BlackBerry announces BES Hosted worldwide and SP is flat or slightly down. Yesterday, MobileIron announces a hosted service in Japan and it went up 8-9%?

    Figures.

To answer some of my questions around the white Passport, I asked Brian Paschke and Joseph Hofer, designers of the Passport here at BlackBerry:

Q: What are some of your design philosophies informing the white Passport?

Paschke: Our team chose this exact shade of white to work with the warmth of the unique, stainless steel frame. The color is custom to BlackBerry.

Hofer: On a detail level, the white color has been further tuned for each individual part and material in order to create overall color harmony.

Q: What inspired the look, feel and materials of the white Passport?

Paschke: The rear cover uses a ‘porcelain feel’ coating that is smooth to the touch while providing grip and complementing the soft touch coating used on the black Passport. So they work as a family.

Hofer: In fact, all of the surfaces for both the black and white Passport have been gently softened for comfort while maintaining a modern look. The finish along with the smooth shaping creates a refined experience.

Q: Tell me what makes the Passport so special to you in general?

Paschke: The Passport leverages our strength and heritage, yet is new and innovative. As the name implies … the format is inspired by a traveler’s passport; a familiar and universal symbol of mobility. This familiarity has potential to leverage existing systems and standards.

Hofer: Though the layout may be unique, the experience of using Passport will feel familiar to many.

"a familiar and universal symbol of mobility"

This correction is good for us. When the SP goes up it is good, and when it goes down it is also good.
