- Telus getting involved in Healthcare. Would love to see them do away with the modified Windows 8 tablet and get involved with BBRY. Combine Telus' pretty strong mobile network with BBRY strong infrastructure.

BlackBerry Sends Out Notice Of Impending Shutdown of Scoreloop
P July 8, 2014 U By Ronen Halevy
BlackBerry acquired Scoreloop in June of 2011 and now 3 years later it looks like they are shutting it down. Scoreloop started as a cross platform social gaming network that supported BlackBerry along with Android, Bada, iOS, and Windows Phone. BlackBerry then incorporated it into BlackBerry 10 as a gaming leaderboard with achievements and more. This was all part of the vision for a consumer focused BlackBerry 10 that probably no longer fits in with John Chens enterprise focused recovery. This sort of makes sense for them though I hope they integrate some sort of leaderboard into BBM or something.
That renewed enterprise focus probably explains why BlackBerry sent out a notice for the ?Termination of Scoreloop SDK License Agreement (the ?Agreement?) & Shutdown of Scoreloop Services.? This means that Scoreloop SDK will no longer be available in OS 10.3.1 and they will no longer be accepting new games with a full shutdown scheduled for Dec 1st, 2014. Here are the details below:
Dear Scoreloop Partner:
All capitalized terms not defined herein shall have the meaning set out in the Agreement.
This letter hereby constitutes notice of Scoreloop AG?s (?Scoreloop?) termination of the Agreement pursuant to Section 10.02 of the Agreement. Effective immediately, Scoreloop will no longer be accepting new Games and Scoreloop will permanently shutdown the Scoreloop Services on Dec 1, 2014. Please remove the Scoreloop Software from your Games and cease accessing the Scoreloop Services prior to Dec 1, 2014.
Additionally, the Scoreloop SDK for BlackBerry will cease to be available as part of the BlackBerry 10 SDK as of 10.3.1. Any Scoreloop services made accessible via the BlackBerry 10 SDK will cease to be available on Dec 1, 2014. Please remove any calls to the Scoreloop SDK from your BlackBerry 10 applications prior to Dec 1, 2014.
Questions can be addressed to Scoreloop via support.scoreloop.com.
Nothing set forth in this letter is meant to be, nor shall it be deemed to be, a waiver or release of, and Scoreloop hereby expressly reserves, all rights and remedies Scoreloop may have, including but not limited to under the Agreement.
Sincerely,
Scoreloop AG

- One last one before I hit the rack. We have been curious about what exactly the project ion entails:
"Earlier this year we unveiled Project Ion, a series of initiatives for the Internet of Things (IoT). One part of the project is an upcoming, secure, cloud-based IoT platform from QNX Software Systems. On Thursday, July 10 at 1 p.m. ET, QNX will be hosting a webinar to demonstrate how this simple, secure, and scalable solution can transform your business.
Steve West, senior director for business development (of QNX Cloud) will lead the discussion to discuss the potential of the IoT platform and how it can transform businesses and customer experiences through the power of data and real-time decision making".
I found the article here:
http://blogs.blackberry.com/2014/07/ion-webinar/
So, Ion looks to be yet another independent branch of our QNX offering. Exciting.07-09-14 12:52 AMLike 6 - BlackBerry Will Continue To Grow - BlackBerry Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) | Seeking Alpha
BlackBerry Will Continue To Grow (BBRY)
Jul. 9, 2014 3:50 AM ET
Summary
The affects of restructuring are showing with a sustained rise in the stock price over the last few weeks.
QNX's success in the healthcare industry might result in massive growth for the company due to the sheer size of the industry and the need for technology.
The sale of non-core assets will allow the company to enhance its cash position and reduce operating expenses.
BlackBerry (BBRY) is seeing the fruits of its strategic decisions over the last few months - the company was able to report a profit for the last quarter which resulted in a nice upward movement. Furthermore, the focus on cost cutting and sale of non-productive assets {real estate} has enhanced the cash position of the company. The recent announcement about BlackBerry handsets winning design awards has further supported the upward movement of the stock. We see BlackBerry as a very solid turnaround play as we have discussed in detail different aspects of the business, and we remain optimistic about the prospects of the company. We will take a look at recent developments and the implications for BlackBerry in this article.
Progress in Restructuring
After selling most of its Canadian real estate for $278 million, BlackBerry has recently announced to sell its R&D facility located in Germany. The company has been aggressively laying off its unused and non-crucial fixed assets in order to bring its cost down. For a company in the turnaround, it is important to focus both on the top-line as well as the operating expenses - controlling the expenses is usually an easier option since it is mostly under the company's control. However, cost cutting cannot be done infinitely and the growth in the top-line is important. Nonetheless, the measures about cost cutting usually prove to be beneficial at the start of the turnaround, and we believe BlackBerry is currently going through this phase.
The interesting part of the recent deal is that the assets are being sold to Volkswagen along with 200 BlackBerry employees for an undisclosed sum. For those who have been following our QNX division coverage of BlackBerry would now understand what is going on. The price of the deal is not disclosed because it was not the point of the deal in the first place. This is an impressive tactic of BlackBerry to secure its QNX market share in the car infotainment system.
Volkswagen already uses QNX in the infotainment systems of its wide array of cars. These 200 employees were mainly providing their services to Volkswagen in Germany. Now with this deal, BlackBerry has laid-off 200 employees and it will further decrease the operating expenses of the company. As disclosed by the company, these two hundred employees are already indoctrinated with QNX technicalities. They might be able to do a better job setting up a better infotainment system for the company now that they are exclusively working for them. This would increase the worth of QNX in the consumer satisfaction and the overall market.07-09-14 03:14 AMLike 5 - 07-09-14 05:14 AMLike 0

Not fond of posting SA articles, but this comment is worth a chuckle:
Please stop posting positive articles on BlackBerry on these forums.
You are going to tick off the bears and shorts as seeking alpha was their primary mechanism for bashing BlackBerry. Now with the outlook looking better and better and John Chen sticking to his plans, the bears are running out of negative things to say and oddly enough not as many are predicting bankruptcy anymore.
So, where does that leave me?07-09-14 07:39 AMLike 8 -

Citigroup to pay $7-billion to resolve U.S. mortgage probes - The Globe and Mail07-09-14 08:17 AMLike 5 - Review from South Africa:
BlackBerry rolls the dice again for its loyal customers | The Citizen
The new BlackBerry Z3 is a remarkable phone – not because of its features or even its price, but because of what it says about a company listening to its most loyal customers.
Released in South Africa last week, it is the first device from the smartphone pioneer to be built for emerging markets – and also priced for such markets.
It is the first phone from a global brand to target a specific developing country, based on its citizens’ loyalty to the brand. The Z3 was built for Indonesia, hence its nickname “Jakarta”. On launch day in that city in May, customers lined up in stores and all available Z3s were sold out.
Similar queues are not expected in Johannesburg when the device is released here next week. That partly explains why South Africa had to wait in line for the device. The gradually declining user base here is sending a clear “we’re just not that into you” message to BlackBerry HQ in Waterloo, Canada. However, those who remain loyal – and there are still more than 4 million BlackBerry users in South Africa – will have a great incentive to upgrade.
The features matter: a 5-inch touch display is rarely heard of in a phone costing less than R3 000. Access to a range of Android app stores was previously confined to, well, Android phones. The Z3 runs on BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1, which lets the Android genie out of the bottle.
Yudi Moodley, MD of BlackBerry for Africa, was upbeat at last week’s announcement of the Z3′s pending release here, saying it “extends the BlackBerry 10 platform experience to a new generation of South African customers at an attractive price”.
Some will see the phone as BlackBerry’s last roll of the dice, a calculated gamble to target customers outside the brand’s early strongholds in North America and Western Europe. Having all but given up on the high-end users who’ve migrated to Apple and Samsung devices, BlackBerry is relying heavily on the fact – a constant surprise to Americans – that it is still an aspirational brand in emerging markets.
To press home its advantage in Indonesia, it’s also believed to have received a local manufacturing incentive there. The result is a sub-$200 phone for that market. Enthusiasm for the device is expected in India, too, where the price is around $250.
So while the R2 999 price in South Africa will amaze those who are used to a lot less for the same money, it’s the equivalent of almost $300.
The early 2013 BlackBerry flagship, the Z10, has fallen in cost to about R2 500 and, at that price, is a better buy than the Z3. However, the phone is almost sold out and is no longer coming off the production line. Nevertheless, consumers will be puzzled that the new low-end phone costs more than the old high-end phone at launch time. Fortunately for BlackBerry, that confusion will dissipate fast, along with the last remaining stock of the Z10.
Of course, BlackBerry is also betting on features, price and loyalty resulting in the same jackpot it just won in Jakarta.07-09-14 08:19 AMLike 12 -

This is the second important headline in all german newspapers today (here a english source): Germany arrests second suspect accused of spying for US | World news | theguardian.com
After the NSA scandal (snowden, merkels phone) the US government has installed a spy in the NSA investigation committee of the parlament and now, in our department of defence. To put it mildely, the german public is not amused. Not at all. It shows, that the US government is completely unbridled when it comes to data collection.
Put this together with the facts, that
- the NSA assigns private companies to collect data (which are not controlled)
- the NSA is the creator of KNOX
- KNOX is part of Samsungs enterprise solution.
I think, right now, every government or company outside the US will look twice before they commit their communication solutions to google/KNOX or any other US based companies like Apple or Microsoft. As long as BlackBerry provides secure solutions, they should be the first choice.Last edited by georg4BB; 07-09-14 at 11:29 AM. Reason: Typos

- Agreed.
Isn't a bit of marketing sweet, especially when it is done well?
And, what if Blackberry were to become "cool" again...07-09-14 10:00 AMLike 9 - You almost have "my" version right, we are trending in yet another channel, at a new level that should see us bounce around between $ 10.90/shr and $ 13.40/shr in US dollars. Today we are trying to close above the recent high CLOSE set on Monday. We need to close above this high to confirm that we are making a new, second highest close in the past 12 months which strongly suggests we are going to try and make a NEW all-time 52 week high on a closing basis which will see us close above $ 11.59 (I think, see chart) . So the trend within the channel is up because we are at support here; the stock is doing extremely well. If we can take out the 52 week closing high, we are clear to fill an enormous gap to $ 13.40/shr. The stock is strong today (note the low today is above support) on sustainable volume. That's my take! Good luck.07-09-14 10:01 AMLike 20
