TA would have us rallying anyways after such a consistent downtrend. But the upcoming launch of the Z3 has more investors repositioning themselves to adjust their expectations.

This will be an interesting close. I wonder how much steam this has before it stalls.

I think BlackBerry should advertise ability to play Android apps. Even with some vague wordings. For example:
<Android Logo> Android Player* supported!
*Android Player is BlackBerry's implementation of Android run-time environment and it allows you to install and run Android apps on your BlackBerry! All Android apps may not be compatible.

When people read that, they'll ask around, how this works? And then someone will tell them.

Amazon app store is not the only way to install Android apps. You could simply go to APKTrain.com from your BB10 browser and download/install Android apps. It's that easy! But most customers won't even know that they can do that. Some vaguely worded advertisement will help here. It'd prompt the customer to ask questions (hey, it says, I can install Android apps, how does that work?) and then someone (sales rep, a friend, another BB enthusiast etc) can help them out!

I think there would be legal implications if BlackBerry advertises (even vaguely) that you can download Android apps from third party sources without consent. Most of the apps are posted on these sites without the consent of the developers. As well, access to the Amazon store is being done through a "hack" or whatever you wanna call it, versus an official way.

In the interest of investors, my focus is on discussing the positive impact of this news on BlackBerry's future.

Tech savvy nerds have always been the hidden sales force for various products. Anyone can easily attest to having at some point of time in their life, asked a friend or family member to refer them to a specialist: be it a mechanic, a home builder, or a computer programmer. The Wealth Factor

EMM/ MDM; government or company issued phone or BYOD - the final decision is actually not in the majority's hands.

The 1% is like the International Color Authority or the Color Marketing Group: they control our lives. The ruling elite determines what we do most of our working days and what equipment we use. The two color organizations described above are panels of consultants who determine the Color of the Year. You may think you get to choose the color of your appliances, furnishings, and clothes but you are wrong. These groups carefully select colors and determine trends with the aim of getting you to toss out what you have because it is no longer in style. Recently, it was brought to my attention that Apple was encouraging users to submit their a list of the Top 5 Features they want to see in iOS8. It turns out that most of the features are already available on the BlackBerry. With regards to features like the hub and the notification LED, I highly doubt Apple can implement them because they will be dragged into court by BlackBerry. It stands to my reasoning that many of those itching for features are ex-BlackBerry addicts. Pushed by their friends to switch to the Apple, they converted but were not satisfied. Below is the list of 15 items BlackBerry has that iPhonians want. It comes from the UTBblog mentioned above and was first seen on iMore:

Clearly, not all iPhone users are satisfied. The ones who want more control and efficiency in their lives are going to be looking forward to the Q20. Waiting for iOS8 to implement 5 features may not be enough. Given some features are unique to BlackBerry, there is also a high likelihood Apple will not want to venture into a patent war while adding features. We have all seen how Typo lost out. BlackBerry is very protective of their ideas.

Applications from Android can now run on BlackBerry 10. With BlackBerry signaling that they will give more support to developers, and also pay extra attention to enterprise, many more native applications will be coming to the platform. Having addressed user's fears for lack of applications, there will be no stopping this flight. Time to climb aboard!

Apparently this author has confused individual web pages for applications. I note 4 above (webpages), he claims 8 - very simple to open on my GNote 3 in Chrome, all tabbed running at the same time. Using the multitasking button I could move from a phone call into any of the pages there, or into a hangout to talk to a colleague as he outlines above.

What my GNote can do that my Z30 cannot is have the webpage and the hangout on the same screen at the exact same time. I've never tried to open 8 webpages at one time, but I don't see why I shouldn't be able to do it if he had listed them all I would have tried to open them in Chrome just to see if it could be done. I certainly had no trouble with the NJ Transit, NY Times, Sharebuilder Mobile pages. I opened the Webex home page as well as it's listed above.

Not trying to pick a fight or be a troll, just correcting the record. I am not fond of SA articles for this very reason.

it is not from the author of the article. it is just a comment from a reader in the comment section. i can run few applications and work on them at the same time while taking a call on z30. while i have few headless and regular apps working in the background on z30. note 3 has bigger screen and it is in totally different category.

Many of the clients of the BES 5 platform plan to upgrade to BES 10 and then to BES 12 after its launch.

BlackBerry has also set its sights on Indian small and medium businesses (SMBs), which have started turning to enterprise mobility management solutions over the last couple of years. “They are some of the potential customers for us. Unlike large enterprises, small enterprises can use the BES Express, which comes free of licence server charges and lower data plans,” Khilnani said.

“Small enterprises need to manage around 50 to 100 people on a single integrated system and can find BES Express extremely handy. We have seen strong traction in this space,” he said.

Fairfax Financial profit jumps on investments | Reuters

(Reuters) - Fairfax Financial Holdings (FFH.TO), the Canadian property and casualty insurer run by investment guru Prem Watsa, said its first-quarter profit more than quadrupled due to strong investment gains and improved underwriting results.

The Toronto-based company said it earned $784.6 million, or $35.72 a share, in the first quarter. That compared with a year-before profit of $161.6 million, or 7.12 a share.

Fairfax, which has hedged its stock portfolio since 2010, posted net investment gains of $1.0 billion during the quarter, compared with a net investment loss of $9.4 million in the first quarter of 2013.

Fairfax Chief Executive Watsa said in a statement that the stock portfolio continues to be fully hedged due to concerns about financial markets and the economic outlook.

Underwriting profit was $98.7 million, up from an underwriting profit of $86.0 million a year earlier.

Since taking over the company in 1985, Watsa has built a reputation as a shrewd investor with moves such as betting against the U.S. housing market and then reaping huge profits when the market collapsed five years ago.

The company's latest big bet has been on the recovery of hard-hit smartphone market BlackBerry Ltd (BB.TO) Fairfax is the top shareholder in the company.

Hi All... first post in quite a long time, I've been extremely busy lately.

This is just my opinion, but I was extremely happy to see the news about SAIC choosing BES10 (whether or not they end up with BB10 devices), and I think it's a major get for BlackBerry. SAIC, as pointed out in this article, is one of the major contractors in the Washington, DC - Northern Virginia area (btw, SAIC recently split into two companies: SAIC and Leidos. Both are multi-billion dollar companies with thousands of employees).

Putting aside whatever revenue this move brings in, this should help solidify the image of BlackBerry in a geographic area that is both reliant on BB7, and at the same time very dismissive of the company and its prospects. If this moves the needle from, "BlackBerry is going out of business" to "I guess they are sticking around in some form", that's huge.

I have NO inside knowledge here, but I'd love to chalk this up to BlackBerry being aggressive about getting important clients locked into BES10... it would bode very well. For me, I want to see Leidos follow suit. And I am very curious to see if they can get firms like Accenture, BAE, Northrup Grumman, SRA, and General Dynamics to make the same commitment.
