    hello Gang,
back from 11 days trip. used z30 as the single traveling hardware for GPS, camera/video and smart phone. works great. used BBmaps when i had cellular coverage and used Mireo Don’t Panic for offline GPS. used Roam Mobility's sim card for USA roaming. unlimited taxt talk and 4gb data for 14 days package for $50. Z30 just works. others used their ipads from my z30 hot spot. great device. shines with bbtravel app and xBBM. voice command worked great too.

Edit: dont forget blackberry story maker. select pictures, videos and select music, select ok and you ll have the best memories album as a video along with your favorite music done in less than a minute. all on this amazing blackberry device.

    FWIW, from SA emails.

TD Securities*has doubled its estimated valuation for BBM to $800M following theFacebook/WhatsApp deal, and raised its BlackBerry (BBRY*+5.5%) PT to $10.50 from $9.50.TD observes Facebook is paying $42/user for WhatsApp ($19B for 450M MAUs), and that assigning a similar multiple to BBM's 80M MAUs would make the business worth $3.36B ($6.41/share). But (while believing the deal highlights the value of messaging platforms) it doesn't think BBM and WhatsApp's valuations are "really comparable," given the latter's smaller scale.

Wells Fargo*notes another messaging platform, Viber, was recently sold at a price of $8.57/user ($900M for 105M MAUs), and is skeptical BlackBerry will try to sell BBM rather than monetize it.

There are two reasons my friends have NOT given up on WhatsAPP. These are such basic/simple reasons to address and I have emailed BlackBerry countless times about these things. They replied that they agreed with my suggestions (4+ months ago) and yet they haven't implemented them.

Reason 1 # Easy sharing of pictures, videos, files in Group Chat (and/or Multi Person Chat).
In WhatsApp, if you are in a group chat, you can send picture, video etc. It appears as thumbnail in the chat window itself.

But in BBM group chat, you've to EXIT chat, go to Groups, go to Albums and upload picture. You can't upload videos at all.

Now, I LIKE this separation of group alubms and I like that people are able to comment on each picture separately etc. But come on, how hard is it to add a SHORTCUT in group-chat menu? "Send Picture" or "Send Video". That short-cut should automatically upload picture to Group Album and show a thumbnail in the Chat-Window. Why force user to EXIT the group chat in the first place?

Reason 2 # For some reason, BBM Cross-Platform's message delivery is still not as reliable as WhatsApps. WhatsApp was also VERY VERY unreliable (delayed delivery etc) first year or so of its existence but it has become very reliable. When I send message to my BBM friends on IOS/Android, sometimes my message doesn't get delivered. So, I send it via WhatsApp and it's instantly delivered. WhatsAPP had same problems initially but they figured out a way to fix this to an extent that it is a rare occurrence now. BBM needs to fix it ASAP too.

There are other small reasons (like BBM emoticons are too small, they should be slightly bigger, Inviting contacts to BBM is not as intuitive as it is in WhatsApp which basically auto-adds all contacts etc.). But those are TWO top reasons and BlackBerry has so far refused to fix them.

I have had conversation with Senior folks at BBM group (Product Manager, Director etc) via email, they have responded via email. I sent detailed feedback with screenshot and suggested work-flow. They agreed. And yet, 4 months later BBM 2.0 lacks these features.

NOTE - If you work for BlackBerry, I'd appreciate if you could forward this feedback (yet again) to BBM Product Manager, Director and even Enterprise VP.

Ever since this last xbbm update, i have no delayed delivery issue with non blackberry user. i like the new addition of emoticons and they do seem bigger now. and the voice call quality is just great, providing that both sides have good wifi or cellular connection.

    ouch.

Brigadier General Kevin Wooten, the communications director for Air Force Space Command (which manages the Air Force's IT infrastructure), said that "in order to keep costs down and save on network resources, BlackBerrys will be turned in and shut off once the user is transitioned to an iOS device." Additionally, anybody who hopes to activate a new BlackBerry on the Air Force network will require approval from the Air Force Space Command. The general that's attached to his BlackBerry is going to have to write an awfully compelling memo justifying why he should get a new one.

this has been floating for months and we have discussed it here before. completely locked down Iphone. not worried a bit from this. heard enough of BS before.
was announced on the feb14th not today.
    http://www.defensenews.com/apps/pbcs...=2014302180027

The Air Force is replacing 5,000 of its BlackBerry devices with Apple smartphones, in a broader move to eradicate the legacy devices in favor of more modern commercial technologies.

Eventually, all Air Force mobile users will be required to trade in their old BlackBerrys for Apple devices or other approved smartphones and tablet computer, the Air Force said in a Feb. 14 announcement.

“In order to keep costs down and save on network resources, BlackBerrys will be turned in and shut off once the user is transitioned to an iOS device," Brig. Gen. Kevin Wooton, communications director for Air Force Space Command, said in a statement.

Any new BlackBerry provisioned after Jan. 1 will require a waiver from AFSPC/A6, Wooten said.

Initially, the Air Force will focus on replacing BlackBerrys and executive users and enabling about 5,000 iOS devices for use. The Air Force didn’t say whether these devices will be supported by the Defense Information Systems Agency’s new mobile device management software, but it’s likely that DISA will play a role in centrally managing Air Force devices.

Last month, DISA said it is working with Air Mobility Command to connect devices to the network. Mobility pilots have been in place across Air Force Space Command, Air Mobility Command, and Air Combat since October 2011.

"The pilot tests we have run have shown positive results with the user communities," Wooton said. "However, we've only scratched the surface. As the number of users grows, we're confident our airmen will find new and innovative ways to enhance operations and job effectiveness."

Balancing security and functionality of the devices will be key.

Each Air Force Major Command will be able to provision an accelerated amount of devices per month, until their allocated licenses are used, the Air Force said. Mobile device users are encouraged to reach out to their MAJCOM mobile point of contact to start replacing their BlackBerrys.

Put the whistles away? That last penalty should have been a penalty shot. Either way, blatant penalties should be called. Minor ones should slide at that point of the game.

    Up from where?

Not at all. I ALWAYS posts when I am in or out of BBRY in just about real time, no phantom, I told you so trades. I never short any stock. I have no position in BBRY and would not initiate one anytime soon. I think the risk/reward ratio has deteriorated dramatically over the last month. Right now my trading account has HALO and SPHS as flyers thanks to M+8 and the rest of my money is managed by professionals.

I am skeptical of the BBRY recovery story and have posted about. Call me skeptical or cautious, just trying to be realistic and some, apparently you, see that as negative.

For a long time here the US gov't purchases where touted and closely followed. This story is a bad sign. Imagine trying to get special permission to get your BB10 device on their network... Nobody is going to do that.

BBMx, is a now much more risky proposition having to take on a combined FB/WA. That is a bad sign too.

Look at a 1 month, 6 month, 1 year or 1 week chart of BBRY, its bad, esp. Given the Loeb and FP/WA news which should have pushed BBRY much higher. All of the Leob/3rd Point bump disappeared in 1 day and now BBRY is working on giving back the FB/WA bump it got too. I would hate to think where BBRY would be trading at without this news.

I do hope BBRY survives as a company and that the stock goes up, but the negative signs are starting to pile up again and the Chen momentum seems to be fading. I really hope he has great BES and/or BBM numbers to announce, but the silence isn't helping here. I personally haven't heard a single person mention BBM outside of this forum. Anecdotal I know....

OK, got it. You do not believe BB's turn-around story so will not buy the stock. On the other hand, you are and will not short the stock. Then only one explanation left for your active posting here, i.e., you have too much time to kill so want to post here for fun.

I learn a lot here about the stock market. Occasionally someone agrees with me and my comments. I have some pretty relevant business, legal and stock market experience from 20 years of doing deals, some big ones back in my IPO deals during the tech bubble.

I bought a Play Book and had a 9650 and have a z10 from day1 pre-order in the US so feel like I support BBRY more than 98% of Americans according to market share data.

I enjoy the humor and music videos and OT stuff and the occasional chix picture. I do have time on conf. calls to kill or while waiting at kids soccer or football practice, that is true. I think this forum beats surfing for porn, sorry if that doesn't make me worthy.

    Off to another soccer practice...................

The mobile tech world is funny at the moment. No one has a clue what is going on or what the next five years will look like, including me.

I'll stick with my view that BlackBerry is doomed if they lock themselves in the bathroom with the silverware while the house is surrounded and set alight.

Sell phones. Sell phones. Sell phones. Air Force is gone and others will follow if BlackBerry don't have more to offer than just some software that others might catch up too. Sell phones, and all is right in the world.
