The question here is; what is the value for BBRY?

    How can BBRY monetize this?

BBM is much lesser known than whatsapp, Skype and Twitter, so there is no way BBM kills anything.

My thoughts on BBM cross platform and Channels here. This is disruptive tech. Not sure if it's going to kill others though.

Not likely. BBM Cross platform is good move to keep existing BB Users on BB. One more reason not to move to iOS or Android.

I don't think it will kill twitter because it's a different product but for sure it can give Skype run for its money.

BBM channels will be a lot like Twitter as soon as it comes out of Beta and the cross platform apps are released. IMHO

No need for grandiose proclamations. It doesn't have to kill Twitter to be successful.

The real celebration here is BBRY's willingness to adjust.

The idea is growing on me. I think adoption will be modest at first, but that's okay; mindshare is gold.

It'll kill Whatsapp that's for sure. BBM is better and will be free on all platforms.

Have you tried BBM voice? I was driving my car at 120 kmh and using BBM voice over LTE. My friend was at home connected through wifi and the clarity was crystal clear.

Using the thoughts of others and expanding a bit. I'd like to add another use case, that's sure to take off and make life easier. Tying Channels into QR codes and NFC tags! It only take a second to realize this is a mass distribution of information on a scale NO ONE has been able to obtain!
A lot of people have been asking what's the difference between BBM Channels and Twitter? It's a good question. There's lots of differences to be sure. But at the heart of the matter you can think about it in the way the information is distributed.
Twitter requires someone to tweet out the information for others to pick up on.
BBM Channels can do that to or they can distribute the information form where ever the channel provider has their items of interest. Like with QR codes on packages.

The question still begs to be asked, how does BBRY profit from liberalizing BBM?

I guess it would be inevitable with BB10 since BB10 does not require a BIS plan. The days up to BB7 required a BIS plan. And I guess it made sense then to keep BBM within BB as RIMM then profits from every BIS plan.

Twitter is making some ...but still probably not enough for a rip roaring IPO. If BBM takes off, then Twitter can forget about IPO As for BBRY, if BBM succeeds, it'll just be additional icing and another source of income.

MS paid US$8.5 BILLION for Skype.
There are already more than US$600 million invested in Tweeter.

And BBM is literally of no cost to BBRY so a successful BBM-X will definitely be of very positive value, esp if it takes down Tweeter and Skype along the way .....

BBRY (the ENTIRE BBRY) market cap is now 8.1 billion.

    Go figure
