The two companies are poles apart in their perception of security across the globe.
While one is often accused of being the Chinese trojan(not my opinion, just what others tell me), the other is lauded for its security and privacy of data. I wonder if the two can ever come under the same roof.
A Huawei takeover will definitely force BB to shelf BB10, as they wont be able to sell their security brand name to the consumer and maybe forced to follow the Android Path, which Huawei is already doing. So I dont understand why would Huawei be interested in BlackBerry.

BlackBerry takeover by Huawei may be imminent.

The US government in particular would exert whatever pressure they could to block the suggested merger above and if it did go through, BlackBerry would immediately be dropped by most western governments and corporations still using them.

Who do you guys think would be a good choice for a merger with BlackBerry that would strengthen the company without putting the things we love about BlackBerry in jeopardy?

............worst case scenario they will dump money into it or buy it out and use tax dollars to prop it up to maintain Tri-city area. Fortunately and unfortunately the gov is too socialist for anything drastic to happen.

These types of articles will start popping up now in earnest in order to fool people to buy the stock in anticipation of a "takeover." The same thing happened with the proverbial "short squeeze."
One week it will be this company byuing it, next week will be another, and in the last stage it will be a particular company and the question will be not "if" but "when" so more fools buy the stock in anticipation of a quick buck only to get slaughtered while the people who play with other people's money laugh.

The only companies that would get approval of the Canadian Government, would be a company based in a country with which we have close military cooperation. This would be USA, Britain, Australia and New Zealand. Even then if deemed not in Canada's best interest, the deal would not be approved.

Any interest in blackberry wouldn't be for the hardware or software but rather the huge patent portfolio they hold.

They should merge with a company that already has tablets, computers and maybe even TV's. This will push the brand's name further and create more integration with other devices. People love Apple and Samsung because they can integrate their laptop tablet and phone or in Samsung's case even their TV.

I had hoped Microsoft would buy BlackBerry and replace windows phone with BlackBerry 10. But windows phone appears to be growing a bit and now with the earnings call results it does not appear they'd want BlackBerry or feel threatened by it competing for third.

BBRY as it is is possibly too big and unattractive for an acquisition. Furthermore, I do not see any candidates interested in its handset business.

To maximize shareholder value, there will probably be multiple spinoffs. This must be coordinated by BBRY when and if it decides it no longer makes sense to continue business operations.

So true. The Canadian government stopped the sale of Potash for that very reason.

BlackBerry in my opinion will not be bought, but as they have been quoted saying, they will license out their BB10 product and make partnerships. Their BB10 product is maturing and just started in February. What company would buy another company until they knew exactly what they could do for them. Not a good M&A prospect. You could argue the cash, security and patents they hold, but in that argument I would say as soon as BlackBerry stops being nice, they could go after every company that owes them money for using their patents. That will be huge... BlackBerry NOT for sale, but looking for strategic partners.

It will never be allowed to happen by the Canadian or the U.S. governments both of which view Huawei with deep suspicion. I recall reading an article recently where the Canadian government already said that they would be concerned about a foreign takeover of BBRY.

Excellent, my thoughts exactly. But I think Board members of Blackberry dont want to sell... they dont want to give up a board seat... Watsa should use his full force and force a sale or a strategic partnership asap.
