I originally bought this on Amazon.com from the retailer ANTOnline. The transaction went smoothly; not so much for the case itself.

Just got my Curve a week and a half ago, and had always kept it in the OEM ouch until I received this clear hard case. Tonight I went to the movies, the phone slid out of my pocket, and hit the asphalt as I was getting out of the car. A mere 2.5 feet drop. The case split apart in two, and my phone landed face down. I have three scratched corners and a few divots on the screen now.

When I first received the case, I notified the retailer that it doesn't fit properly. The LED notch is in the wrong location, and that corner of the case doesn't snap together. This case is designed for the GSM AT&T and T-Mobile BB Curves. The retailer contacted Speck, and Speck told them that it is a "universal" case for the Curve. I tried contacting Speck myself, but received no response even after a week.

I ordered a new rubberized hard case from an eBay retailer for $5.95 shipped. I've already wasted $25 on the Speck case. Hopefully this case fares better for the AT&T and T-Mobile versions in the event of a drop. I would have been better off wrapping the phone in saran wrap for much cheaper.

This is the corner of the case that hit the asphalt, and the entire case split in half.

You can see the clip/tab on the left that is supposed to latch on snugly, but it doesn't as this case is designed for the GSM versions. I modded the case by putting a piece of tape between the speaker holes to prevent it from splitting in half again when it hits the asphalt for a second time.

    Gads....

I clicked on one of your pics and it opened about a hundred windows before I finally had to reboot my PC... And my stuff runs VERY stable.

I'd advise anyone looking NOT to click these pics...

Good idea to use photo bucket or anything other than that place....

Umm, sucks about your case there... Otterbox man...

Hate to hear about the damage. There is a small difference between GSM and CDMA- Speck should have been aware of that fact. I too use an Otterbox and since buying it I have had a couple of 3 ft drops on concrete and no damage whatsoever. The extra expense has been worth it. Goodluck.

Before I got this otterbox I had the rubbery seidio snapon case. The seidio flew out of my hands, pockets and once took a 10 foot fall. Each time exploding apart onto the ground. It was just luck that my phone wasn't damaged. In my opinion all those snap on cases suck. I can tell you with 100% assurity that you can chuck this otterbox at full speed against a brick wall and although your blackberry will probably be rendered useless and possibly have a cracked screen, it will all still be in one piece.

The otterbox looks too bulky and the holster doesn't look very snug. I would be worried about it just falling out.

I had the Blackberry leather holster which was NICE! BUUUUUUT... I got out of the truck one night and the pouch fell off. The swivel had come apart from the pouch. Pretty much ticked me off and I haven't found another one that appeals to me yet. Any ideas????

    Thanks!

Great, and I ordered one of these cases w/ the holster directly from Speck the other day. It'll be here 9/2. I'll try it out for a week and report back as to my experience with it. I hope I am not like several other people who are very dissatisfied with this Speck product.

As for the hosting of the pictures. I didn't get popups, but on one of the links was a banner with porn in it. And I'm at work!! That's a bad host.

If you have a CDMA Curve, the Speck case won't fit it properly. The CDMA version is thicker than the GSM Curves that the case is designed for.

So your saying that the Curve was physically designed different for each carrier?! Since when do they do that? Wouldn't that cost more money? I thought they just had different exterior colors to differentiate themselves from each carrier.

I thought all BB's for every carrier were the same spec in physical size, and the same for Pearls, Curves, etc. I know the guts inside are different.

the cases are different.. The ones through Verizon and alltel I know for a fact are 8330 wich are different from the other carriers. I am not sure about if anyone else is CDMA.

I bought the speck case from the t mobile store for 9.99 and it works but not perfectly. The holster isn't very secure in my opinion and the phone dropped twice while bending over. The case came apart when it hit the ground but no damage to the phone... The last time it fell though it did break the tabs. I am still looking for a new holster type case....

Wow TyD, that's very dissapointing. UPS is supposed to delivery my Speck clear case & holster today. Maybe I'll try it out for a day or two and send it back via their 30 day return policy. The way everyone is talking that's bought one is scaring me more and more.

It might just be worth it to spend double the money and get the Seidio, or just stick with my plastic holster.

Yes, they are different. The ones I am for sure that are CDMA are Sprint and Verizon.

Even a Pearl from T-Mobile is different than one from Verizon as the camera & flash aren't horizontal, but vertical.

I'm heavily disappointed with the Speck case, and I think it's crap that they are trying to pass it off as universal between the GSM and CDMA versions. The holster is useless, as your BB will pop out very easily if you ever bend over and you have some love handles. A quick tug or push from the corner of a desk hitting your phone and it'll fall out of the holster.

I work in a warehouse environment where I go in and out of freezer rooms that are -14F and back onto a 40F dock, then outside where it's 90F. This builds up condensation on the phone, or the case that it's in, which is why I finally sprung the money for an Otterbox.

I also make several deliveries though out the week that require me to get in and out of my work van 10-30 times her day. So far the Curve hasn't fallen out of it's Otterbox. Even if it did, I wouldn't be worried. If I didn't have a piece of tape holding the Speck case together, I was always paranoid that if it fell again, it'd split open. Again.

    edit:
I should also note that the Speck case, at least when used on a CDMA 8330, will require you to open it up at least once a week to clean out all of the dust that will gather between the case and your Curve's screen. Also, since the 8330 is thicker, the screen of your Curve will rub against the plastic case, eventually imperfecting your screen. Luckily those are cheap to replace.

Okay, I recieved my Speck case yesterday...

I opened it at work earlier tonight, and you were all right... it's a piece of crap (to be blunt). I didn't even put it on my phone. I sat and analyzed it for about 10 minutes. The plastic is so thin and weak, heck I couldn't even get the 2 pieces apart. There's no instructions on how to put the phone into it. I tried pulling the 2 pieces apart but I was afraid I would break the plastic it's so weak.

And the holster? Your right, it's a joke. The quality of it is terrible and I can totally see the phone falling out of it from simple bending over and movement.

I've decided to not even use it and just send it back for a refund.

I currently have a generic holster that kinda looks like the seidio but it's just black plastic. I only paid $7 for it but it's pretty strong plastic and works good for now.

I might consider getting the Seidio rubberized skin and holster, we'll see.
