i stripped the thin magnet backing of some business cards or small calendars that stick on a fridge and try rubbing it on my 8100 pearl. it wont lock even if i had already activated auto lock on the security menu.

any ideas how OEM magnetic locking holsters work in relation activating the BB autolock?

I'd like to use my aftermarket soft and smooth swede sleeve for my pearl and sew or glue a magnetic strip so it automatically locks when i insert the pearl.
Any ideas how i can DIY this?

Do you think the thin magnet I used not strong enough (though I already used a stronger magnet but still didn't work)?
Does the polarities of the magnet make any difference?

You need a strong magnet, and placement is key. It can be front or back, at the bottom edge of the zero. Radio Shack should be a good source, test what you purchase before you leave. Then use a piece of felt or other thick, soft cloth and fabric glue. Glue the magnet in the center of a half inch square of cloth, then glue the cloth in your holster where you've verified it will work.
