    just joining the club... Stl100-2

my Proximity and Light sensors fail before I get to the testing part (no response)

they are both marked as Unavailable.

so... trolling until i get a deffinite way of getting them back...
I think those of us who went the replacement route had a 100% success rate.
Though there may be just two of us.

I am still under warranty and not so much inclined to pry my BlackBerry apart just to fix an issue that may not be hardware related. I am hoping to get faster to a fully tested OS and restore everything to factory settings and see if they work.

Maybe if I get a full weekend do a revert to official release 10.2 a few security wipes and restores and see if enticing pops up.

    Good luck!
(Though I'd be surprised if the sensors come back.)

I am having the same issues with both sensors and there's no way to solve it. I tried Hard reset, a security wipe, taking out the sim card, shutting down localization services... and none of those things made the sensors run again. the previus reply seems to have the solution and would be great if you share it with us.

    I'm running 10.2.1.3247 OS versin in a Stl 100-2 Z10.

My wife has the same Phone and OS but doesn't have any trouble...

From what I see, I would say it is hardware failures for some people - though no clear pattern has emerged as to why.

Or just for it to start working after some random restart like mine did.

We need to be able to source the part from somewhere to help people out.

    Any ideas?

First after reading again all posts I can see two different issues :

    - if all your sensors are broken than it seems to be a hardware problem. Replacing the sensors solve it

    - if you have only light and proximity sensors not responding than check these sensors core files. If they are missing than it's a software issue. For this we still have nothing clear as an answer to solution.
For some people a full wipe then an official os install with their provider's radio worked....

    To be continued...

Anderen those who just have light and proximity broken see it work again after the sensor is replaced.
I'm fairly certain this is a hardware issue.

I suspect some forms of to y power surge from a forced reboot - it seems like the most logical source.
Incidentally, the autoloader forces a hard reset, not a gentle reboot.

Should this, by any means pose any problems if i send it to be repaired? ... my warranty has not expired yet.

    Good question - I don't know
Technically, you should be able to get it fixed under warranty anyway.
(2 years from the seller by law in the EU - but the burden of proof switches after one year, however I is is hard to see how a user can damage a self contained sensor. )

I know that in most cases companies spoke their authorised service centres - but these don't exist for mobiles.
And in a desktop you can just switch out parts yourself...

I thibk it ends up being your choice.

How is it possible that so many people for no reason broke down exactly the same sensors?

It isn't that many - just a couple.
It also seems to be more prevalent amongst people who experiment (i.e. Swiftly OSes, use leaks.)

-> I suspect there is a minor power surge in a forced reboot (volume buttons) which is the same autoloader uses.
IF there is, this could explain it.

Please note: I'm speculating as to the source of the fault.

Other option: couple of bad sensors in the production run.

But that does not explain why mine (and actually another one in this thread) suddenly started working. They worked for about a month then stopped again.

It does if it is a component that is degraded - it might be discharged completely after a reboot and then at some point it breaks completely.
I had a PC act up during an experimental run - reborn didn't help, but powering down, disconnected tung and discharging the mainboard helped.

What pisses me off is that i had a z10 with no issues. And within months of buying Q10 i got this issue.
I tried it all. I guess removing battery for 8 hours is left. Will try that
