I really think that the problem is software, so it shouldn't be that the solution. Go backwards and stick with older os's because of a faulty newer version. I can use my z10 without it fine, now i'm more curious about the reason than disapointed.

I wasn't saying to go back and stay there, just to see if it fixes it. I'm training for the next few days so I need my phone but will test at the weekend if I can.

Without the sensors, our batteries die quicker and we can't make use of the new features in 10.3 such as advanced interactions for wake on pick up and flip to power save.

Just thought I'd throw this out for those in the EU:
If you have purchased your handset in the EU, you have by law two years of warranty from the seller. (note seller not manufacturer)
The burden of proof does switch after a year - i.e. the seller has to prove it is not faulty in the first year while the buyer has to prove it is a defect in the second.

If you have failed sensors, unless you are sure it is related to your actions, you may want to request a repair or replacement from the seller.
-> the sensors are built in, non moving so should not fail.l, hence you have a pretty good argument for claiming a defect.

I highly doubt OS10.3 is to blame - because other people have no issues with with it.
(I run 10.3 and all sensors work)

Edit: Those who purchased with a Visa card may also still be on warranty as the warranty is extended by one year up to two years.

Other notes: some countries offer a 2 year warranty as a default, e.g. Germany.

It has happened before worldwide and it turn out to be a "server problem" December 2013 so if I am now in an official os and it's the second device with this problem I really believe that somehow is related to software. I won't claim another device with the same problem because I know the answer will be changing to another brand and os, and I know android, ios and wp well. And for me bb10 it's for keep. For now.

And it's an EU law the 2 years warranty for non degrading use goods.

A phone or rather sensors in the phone aren't degrading goods - there is no wear an tear on the sensor (or the phone itself really).

And why are my Z10 sensors perfectly fine?
It is not an issue affecting all Z10s. It may be a software issue - but it isn't an issue for everybody so why for some?
Sometimes software may exaggerate a hardware issue - for example if it were to turn a sensor off for failing a tolerance test.

    What about the light sensor?

I think it's time we reported this to BlackBerry in their official forums.

It's the light and proximity sensors that have gone bad since 10.2. If I get chance I'm going to downgrade to 10.1 and see if they liven back up.

If someone fancies beating me to it, that would be grand.

    Not responding - just waiting...

Some people suspected that a battery pull could be atfault, but that would be weird...

    Hi

Did you tried to downgrade to 10.1 to see if it could change anything ?

I remember a thread mentioning that those having a problem with light and prox are missing the two sensor-files in the sys-folder (Where the other sensor files are located). Wonder if anyone has been able to extract these files and load them onto a z10 with these probs)?

    Ghost commander: /dev/sensor/

You're right these files are missing.
But you can't extract them nor load them.

But that doesn't explain why this happens out of the blue...

I an certain it wa working properly before - I had made calls and had the proximity sensor working.

Conspiracy theory suggestion: is BlackBerry trying to get us back to 10.2.1? (little server side command to tell the OS to. Remove the files... it is a Dev OS...)

QNX offers a Unix like environment - or Unix compliant.
We possibly have read rights for mist directories, just not write rights.

I just checked with Ghost commander, yeah those files are missing. We can only read from /dev/sensor. Still waiting for someone to extract those files so we can figure something out.
