I noticed on the 10.2 update that youtube now has a playon feature but only has the hdmi option as of now. Is this feature coming in the official 10.2 update via dlna/Miracast or whatever? Thanks.

Yes, it is. If you're on a Q10 with a compatible device, it already works for the most part.

Is it only working for the Q10? Or am I missing something simple for my Z10? I have a Samsung Smart TV and a WDTV and no dice with either.

It likely never will be. Info suggests Z10 will only get WiFi direct and not Miracast.

But you can see miracast viewer module in the current build. It is hidden and can be viewed on the chrome extension. I still believe it might be coming.

Yes. When you try to launch it, it shows a blank screen. You can, however, open the wifi direct module but it does not do anything.

Personally, I believe Z10 will not get Miracast at all. It is pretty late in the game for 10.2. This is a real shame because I was looking forward to using it.

If the Q is getting it, the Z should get it. It would not make sense otherwise.

Except that they have different hardware.
The Z may get Wifi Direct via a trade-off which would be to get disconnected from Wifi when a direct connection is created. That could be the reason the Z can't get Miracast certified as 2 channels are required.

Is it verified that the Z hardware can't support two channels?
I always thought that the miracast worked over wifi direct and if wifi direct is working, miracast should also work.

Can I ask Crackberry to do a main blog post video showing two Q10 doing Wifi Direct? Does it work with this leak? I'd like to see it doing it if so.

And PlayBook should get BB10. This is the way this is playing out.

I really hope that this is wrong.

I really think that if at all there was a choice to be made, the Z should be getting miracast ahead of the Q as it is better suited for multimedia and gaming due to the screen size and resolution.

you could probably search for it on youtube as toobs had done the demo of this on the Q10.

Ahhhh I really want this on my Z10!! Any Miracast adapters out there that would give the Z10 the capability if it doesn't end up working?

No. Just use an HDMI cable. Another option is a dlna dongle but there is less that you can do with that.

Actually in the browser/media player I was getting a device not yet supported on os' prior to the latest leak. Now when I hit the Miracast button it gives me some video options on on a z10.

/edit actually when I just checked which options it gives me. It's only hdmi out at the moment. So looks like you're probably right.

Where is the Wifi-Direct example? I didn't ask for Miracast. You just wasted my time. Moreover Crackberry would do a much more professional example than that. You can barely tell it's a tv we are looking at.

Lolwut, Both of the devices (Z10 STL100-2/3/4 and Q10 SQN100-1/2/3/4/5) use the same chipset, MSM8960B. They also use the same transceiver. Hardware is certainly capable of it. It could be a blackberry decision but then I don't see why they'd do that. With playbook the rationale was quite clear, OMAP4430 is too slow for BB10 (especially for applications which use adobe AIR and lag even on OMAP4470 and MSM8960B).

You're completely wrong, but I'll only cover wifi. The Z uses a TI chip, the same found in the PlayBook. Apparently that chip isn't great and Miracast hasn't been implemented (yet).
The irony is that the Z10-1 could support the feature since TI has integrated it in the OMAP4470 it uses, but that would make a lot of people unhappy...

How have you determined that the TI wifi chip has not (yet) implemented miracast?
