I have seen posts that the Android runtime will be removed from the 10.3.3 as well as BBM. Is there any official word on that?

No word on that. Other than some security updates, no one except Blackberry has any clue.

    It's not a BBM delete, it's a memory enhancement.

There are no posts about the runtime being removed. There are many posts about people wishing the runtime to be updated, when BlackBerry already said it's being maintained and saying put at 4.3.

There are also no posts about BBM being removed. What has happened was the BBM Meetings service was shut down on February 10. BBM has already been updated since then with that component removed.

Some of us would have liked to see BBM as a removable App. Might be that some in Enterprise have also asked for this "enhancement". But I don't think BlackBerry would totally remove BBM...

Rutime.. yes there has been some speculation about it's possible removal... but that was usually as part of some plans for future BB10 hardware. I don't think there are any such plans so I don't think they'll remove the RUNTIME as that would be the removal of most of the usable applications that are out there for BB10 users.

Honestly I think 10.3.3 is going to be a few very minor security patches.

But then you do have to wonder about the new beta for BBM..

That's easy... I wish I could turn off some of that on BB10.

Too be honest, I almost wish they would release a version of BB10 without the Runtime. It would be very limited in what you could do... but I think it would be a very fast OS.

Is the runtime even loaded into memory if it's not used? I know that on my Z30, after a reboot the first Android app I used took longer as it had to startup the runtime.

It takes a few minutes for the runtime to startup right after a reboot. You will get that green android startup progress bar if you click on an android app too soon after a reboot.

Wait about ten minutes after a reboot to click an android app, and you don't get that startup bar.

On the contrary, 10.3.3 will upgrade the runtime to 5.1.1 equivalent and introduce a version of BBM that has cross-platform video calling.

Where did you see these posts? Can you provide links? I'd like to see what was said and who said it.

Or, are you basing this thread on some speculative off-hand comment by someone with no inside knowledge at all?

BTW, to those who are looking forward to using BBM Android. I'd say due to the design of the service itself, it's not battery-friendly. As it will not obviously use Google Cloud Messaging service (something like BIS Push), it it keeps the device awake as it polls for long intervals to check messages. I however look forward for the addition of the Video calls however (finally).

I have some reliable inside information and the 10.3.3 update will include the following features :

    1. It will not have the Android Runtime, because for security purposes it will not allow users to install any other app.
    2. It will allow you to take photos, but not save them.
    3. It will have the select all feature.
    4. It will have the ability to let you make phone calls, but the other party won't be able to hear you.
    5. It will come with free ice-cream!
    6. It will have a constant, non-removable reminder stuck to the home screen asking users such as the OP to stop asking these types of questions!

*the update may or may not have a sense of humour as does the poster of this message. Or not. I'm not sure.

Hysterical!! They should add a feature that restores phone to factory specs everytime this question is asked so you get the the thrill of re-installing everything you sideloaded! Well, maybe that's a little harsh. Funny post anyway.
