ok, so i just saw the new answering method and i don't like it.

the up/down style is how it came out and how it has been marketed.

who here doesn't like the "new" swipe to answer style?-img_00001451.png

Lol seriously? Its a small change, it shouldn't make it unusable, some like it up or down and some side to side

Don't want to swipe the screen? Use a Bluetooth headset and answer it that way then. I was surprised when I first saw it on my new Z30, considering i never though about how I was to answer a call until my phone rang. Was pretty simple to figure out and pretty intuitive IMO. I like how you can answer or dismiss the call simply by the direction you swipe. A nice feature to my way of thinking

I think the idea is that it is now easily reachable using your thumb while holding the phone, with one hand, as you would while, texting / messaging, looking through the Hub, or using any of the other swipe motions (unluck, show hub while in app, etc.). You'll notice it's well aligned with the bottom bar of the home screen which shows which pane/tab you're in and allows you to cycle through them rapidly.
I think it's an improvement, because it keeps the thumb in relatively the same position on the screen as is used for navigation purposes. Obviously, this is an opinion, and I realize others feel differently and that it may take some getting used to.
On another note, it bears a certain resemblence to the answer/end call keys on legacy devices. I dig that as well.

Most of BB10 users use one thumb only so having it in the bottom going left and right makes things pretty easy.

Same reason why the browser bar is in the bottom unlike other phones.

    It's better this way

Edit: and I have been beat lol

yeah. i guess you guys have a point.

i do love and get the browser bar at the bottom. i guess i just "fell in love" with the up/down swipe. i thought it was pretty cool and different.

I think on a smaller screen like the Q a side to side swipe is easier and looks nicer. While on the Z10 and Z30 an up and down approach might look nicer. I personally would like to try it out for myself, before giving a solid opinion on which I like better.

I agree....I remember several thread started where people were saying they can't answer calls..of course that was all user error but like you said, it's now simpler for the less savy. Not trying to be rude either, that's just the reality of it.

I find the up and down swipes convenient on my Z10, but left and right swiping actions... on the bottom part of the screen? No thanks. It'd be too hard.

Don't you have your thumb there when you type anyway? I imagine it will be close, possibly just slightly lower than the bottom row of letters on the keyboard (the row above the space bar), or at least the top half will be around there, meaning your thumb could activate it in the same position.

It's seems like an improvement for the Q series. Haven't tried it yet though.
Also, it does NOT copy competition - it looks unique (besides the left right motion).

Me no like new left /right ...

As is motion (up / down) is perfect and distinctive. It is perfect for Z10 and Q10. This new looks like any other average Android... TAT was doing the great job, so I guess techies now control what is "right design" and "usability".

Maybe this is needed for gigantic Z30, I have not tried one yet, so have no idea if up and down make sense...

    I like it.

As is, the current system is fancy but is atrocious to screen real estate. This one is easier to get, easier to use, and would make better use of screen real estate.

Notice how answering slides to the left? That would be because to right-handed people (which is a majority) sliding to the left (extending the thumb) is much easier than contracting the thumb to slide to the right. Normally you'd positive effects to the right, but not this time.

Then, you can have more screen real estate to show the contact picture.

I for one don't like the left/right swipe to answer calls. I still prefer the swipe up/swipe down, and then tap to silent.

Wonder why they changed it. It looks like android now. May be one issue is that people swipe up to get out of lock screen and then swipe down to answer call to make it confusing.

I prefer the old swipe up/down cuz it was different from all other platforms so it looked distinctive. Plus tapping on the bar used to silence the ring and that was precious for me.
I can guess in this new version u have to tap on the silent icon to silence the ring am I correct?
But anyways it's all good for me.

Small but an ugly change. One of the reason I like BB10 was because of the beautiful call screen. Even my Android call screen looks better now. BlackBerry should stop the habit of screwing itself !
