There is some reason why the run time has not been increased to 4.4 or higher. I used to know but have forgotten at the moment.

We stuck with 4.3 at the moment which works pretty well normally. Maybe consider purchasing a really cheap android device to use your banking App on until things update for BlackBerry

4.4, 5.0 and 5.1 mean ART, and BlackBerry hasn't made ART run yet under OS 10.3, plain and simple.

4.4 had the option for ART

Art processing, as I heard, is faster, but I don't know it it can be emulated as BlackBerry makes now.

The question too is that implementation of art means more android system draining BlackBerry performance.

4.4 was only for development purpose. It cannot even be activated without rooting.

You are wrong. W/o rooting I had moto device running on 4.4, both devik and art support.

Most of the Android devices at present run on 4.4. It is more stable. 4.4 is popular for its stability, not for art. Blackberry is going slow, maybe due to, it wants to support z3, Q5 models for few more days.

Google said proudly that 4.4 was more efficient, so it can run well on 512ram devices.

Maybe taking 4.4 support would offer a better performance for BlackBerry android runtime

Current trends of BlackBerry is showing, BlackBerry os will fully dependent on android in near future. There is a huge gap in between 4.3or4.4 and LorM. BlackBerry is already struggling to stable their os. Fast release of 4.4 or 5 is practically impossible for BlackBerry. Who knows in near future BlackBerry will start marketing of pure android devices.

No evidence to OP's premise that a runtime update will allow access to NFC for Android tap-to-pay. 4.4 enables Host Card Emulation but BB would have to allow it access out of the sandbox.

Issues or concerns such as these will be history if it is true that BlackBerry is going to launch a Android OS based phone...

Well I guess it would depend on what version on Android they release....

Even if BB10 gets 4.4 support, the app won't work. Banks only allow specific models they've tested to activate NFC payment so while the app itself will work, the NFC payment portion won't.

What bank are we talking about?

If blackberry goes to straight android phones then I will be switching to windows phone as I won't use a berry with strictly android or an android phone. And I certainly won't go to iphone. I love blackberry the way it is.

Vanilla Android, Blackberry Security and BlackBerry Hardware isn't a bad idea actually... IMHO

BlackBerry should just allow us to install whichever OS we wish...Same as Intel and AMD...install any OS...

That would necessitate Google, Windows, Apple, or any other adding code to support BlackBerry SOC to their respective OS, plus users would have root access to BlackBerry devices to able to boot as well as install. Last I checked the consensus was rooting was a large part of Android's insecurity.

Windows phone is not rooted yet but MS won't make any arrangements cause they are trying to get corporate user just like BlackBerry does.

Can't be vanilla if you are adding BlackBerry security into the mix. It would have had be some sort of BlackBerry android fork. Unless they are just going to make an app for hub and just use bes client to manage the device

BlackBerry have already announced they are bringing more software to iOS and Android, that is thought to include Hub.
