I already know from other threads that 10.3 is aimed at the newer flagship phones..but seeing that we can run 10.3 on on my Z10...I was wondering if there are going to be other key differences between the two OSs? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

PS...sorry for the typo in the title meant to say "Key"

I believe it is the fact, that 10.3 is optimised for passport (3 GB ram) and 10.3.1 will be optimised for older BB 10 Devices (2 GB or less RAM)

does this mean that running latest 10.3 on my z10 is inefficient? Also heard people ranting about memory leaks...although I havent had any problems.

Better memory optimization and black hub?
    Probably an improved runtime too.

To the best of my knowledge 10.3 is just optimised for the 1:1 format of the passport and it's keys versus virtual. You can see that the pages are not always showing correctly on the current devices. As long as you're below 4 gb a 32 bit system can handle that.

it is not that it is inefficient, but not that well optimised, I believe

Yup, whilst many running leaks have reported better batter life, it is in fact worse compared to 10.2.2

Yes it should work well given that the OS / apps fit the resolution of the Q5/Q10

I remember there was a problem with eg. the stock app for Z30 build for BB10 from the ground up. So as far as I know 10.3 is optimized for 1440x1440, where I definetly seen some ress problems for my Z30...

Could this be why I get a flash on bottom 20-40% of my screen when in Bedside mode or when going to sleep? other than that and weird battery results (sometimes great sometimes OK) runs fairly well.

I suspect the Passport will get updated to the same 10.3.1 later in the fall too.

Just think of 10.3.0 as an early version of 10.3.1 so that the Passport can launch with something new.

There appears to be another Android enhancement (tooling update) coming for 10.3.1 in addition to support for the BlackBerry Classic:
    http://developer.blackberry.com/android/tools/roadmap/
There also appears to be some enhancements coming to the native OS such as PM enhancements, better 3rd party software integration into device information access, and an interesting credential manager coming for BES users:
    http://developer.blackberry.com/nati...loads/roadmap/
That's about all I could see as potentially end user facing improvements in 10.3.1.

I can't remember which way, but I thought one of the two, 10.3 or 10.3.1 was going to be optimized for the tool belt. So it would be launched with the Classic and the other was for the Passport and other BB10 devices.

It is my understanding, having read the developer links I provided above, that Classic support won't be in 10.3 but rather 10.3.1. 10.3 appears to be exclusively a Passport device OS at this time. 10.3.1 is slated for all BlackBerry devices, including the Passport (as an upgrade to 10.3) and all other devices.

I experience my z10 on 10.3 more hot when I use compare to 10.2.1 and because of it, battery drainage is faster. Although, battery leakage is not much when device is not used.

10.3 is optimized for quad-core processor and as mentioned above... more RAM... Passport only (for now)

10.3.1 is optimized for for the rest. Q5/10, z10/30, Porsche, and Classic

Not quite. Passport will be getting the same 10.3.1 update when it comes out for the other devices.

I concur with what's being said that 10.3 is optimised for passport. 10.3.1 will be the best of the rest.
It's evident, but not for some in the OS's that have been currently 'leaked' that there are minor niggles, mainly to resources and also alignment of the touch area not being quite where it should be. I unfortunately have been plagued by these on the latest 1154 leak but it is not significant that I require a roll back.

    Looking forward to 10.3.1.

10.3 will come with passport, then later after release 10.3.1 will become available on all devices including passport, that's my guess.

    Looking forward to 10.3.1.
I have seen a number people say 10.3 will be "optimized" for the Passport. It might be an issue of semantics, but if any enhancements are made I think 10.3 will be written to take advantage/make better use of the extra GB of RAM and extra CPU cores.

I'm pointing out that subtle difference in wording because if 10.3 was written to require those additional physical resources, then BlackBerry would either have to fork the base OS code when 10.3.1 comes out for all devices, or back those changes out so the 2GB of RAM and dual core devices will work with it as well. We all see how well the code forking for the STL100-1 is going, so I don't think they will fork the OS for devices with more RAM and CPUs.

What I am hoping is that BlackBerry is writing 10.3 to be able to spawn more threads if it sees more CPUS on a device, and to potentially cache more in RAM if it sees more RAM available. Both of these approaches should help Passport performance while not hindering the performance or forcing a coding fork in 10.3.1 for the rest of the devices.

Then again they could me making no real changes other than supporting the new screen resolution, and 10.3 is really being limited to the Passport to try and give it's launch a little more uniqueness/boost.

I'm just thinking out loud here and am not trying to argue with anyone. If anyone has any write ups from BlackBerry about what they are doing to "optimize" 10.3 on the Passport, I would love to read it.
