Some calls I made while on .1055 were in HD, that is, better sound quallity then other calls. I never noticed any option about activating it, but there was a "HD" sign at the bottom of the contact pic while the call was in progress.

After installing .1925 I never get HD calls so I am curious whether it was a new option inside the call/phone app on 1055 or it has something to do with the quality of the network connection, in which case could be that 1899 radio is not as good as the 1056 radio was.

    Well as the name says
High Definition call, the call quality is much better, you can hear more things surrounding the person you're calling. The voice is more detailed.
Oh, and don't thing that just by putting your hand on the phone when you want to tell a secret will work, because putting your hands on the phone has a distinctive sound

HD calls make use of data connections to improve call quality, Orange and Three in the UK have had them for a number of years (using the 3G network).

That is my previous understanding of HD calls, I do not know if BlackBerry have done something else on top of this.

Both parties must have phones that support the HD calling features

Maybe try to restart the phone. My first call to a person that I knew was compatible with HD call didn't show "HD" but it still worked. Then all other calls to the same person showed the HD sign

It might be a chance that your operator disabled HD calling for the holidays? Consumes a bit more bandwidth and maybe they wanted to avoid overloading the network. Happened to me last year.

Also, check , as said before, if the other person has a device that supports HD voice on your network, it's mandatory that both sides use compatible handsets.

I noticed this for the first time while travelling in Germany. I was having HD calls with Vodafone Germany and some contacts but not all. I never had that in the UK with Vodafone UK.

The only thing I really hate about HD calls is that I cannot take calls from my toilet anymore!

That's good enough. I have never seen the HD icon.
Is AT&T network in USA HD ready? I know that the network and both parties must be. I am on AT&T $60 smartphones prepaid plan if that matters.

//Some forum moderators are like communist
All US networks should have it, I'm in Namibia and we have it.
EDIT: I just saw you posted US carriers don't support it that's really odd considering here in Namibia we have a population of 2,4 million and all our carriers support it on both 4G LTE AND 3G

I would expect this when the Vodafone and o2 network infrastructure merger is completed in 2015. No proof it just makes sense for 3G and 4G coverage.

Thanks for the info. I had to flash the 1056 radio and it def. makes a difference. However, I got a confirmation from BBRY that it is a radio issue and it is going to be fixed with the official OS update that is coming soon.
