They are two different branches. Someone else can hopefully tell you what exactly those branches are.

I would "assume" you pick one series and stick with it?
....and the 10.3.2.2xxx is more extreme?

I'm on 840 and have the Blitz file down loaded and ready to load, so I can load 252. Just want to know which is the better series to stick with.

If the 2204 is better than 840, I was told to just load the 2240 core over the existing 840.

I assume 8xx branch is just a preliminary release for Verizon, but will be superceded by the 2xxx branch that is being developed for all devices.

    Thank you @Conite

So I should stay with the 2xxx series and not worry about updates that apply to specific issues or do "you" switch back and forth based on release dates?

Now I understand why I can just load the core on top 840.

4 digits vs 3 digits: 3 digits must be updates

Although it's just a guess, I would be surprised to see much further development of the lower branch.

    10.3.2.2252 has been fantastic.

I am suspecting the 2xxx series code fork is missing some of the earlier fixes. May be at some point the devs may propagate the delta ?

Based on my experiences with the Z10, Z30, and Q5, I have yet to see anything missing from 2252.

Somewhat poor battery performance which was rectified with combo of 2204+841 combo.
(experienced with both B/W Z30 we have)
Seriously thinking to move at least one Z30 on latest leak. But But absence of change log is a deterrent.

Bug fixes essentially. 840 is an earlier build while the other is even more refined.

    Thanks Dave,
On 2252 now seems to work great.
Most of the lag is gone and Assistant loads faster.

During software development, a version number of x +1 is NOT always greater than x

But for the sanity sake, the release management makes sure x +1 > x during the release.

So far 840 has been on My ATT passport for about a week. Seems very stable and I have not ran into any problems. 2204 gave me some issues with BBM, Camera, pictures and some keyboard issues. I think I'm going to stick with 840 for awhile. It also seems a little bit more fluid.

On 2204.... closed BBM chat, opened camera to take pic...clicked camera icon and BBM would pop up intead of the camera. Similar things happened opening and closing pictures. And keyboard lights would randomly flash.

On 840, none of the above and very smooth..at least for me. But I'm not that experienced with installing OS...this is like my third or 4th time doing it. But anyway, so far....very good OS for me.
