SR 10.2.1.2976 has a newer OS version than 10.2.1.2977 but is a lower SR. Why? Why is 10.2.1.2976 build time just 1 minute after 10.2.1.2977, and which should I use and why? It doesn't make sense :S thanks for your time reading this

It's an upgrade or sidegrade if you will You can look at the changed and updated files from the 3253 post 3253 is higher than 3247 later buid.

To me, the whole " Software Release" numbering thing means nothing. I'm still not sure why they even use it. All other mobile OSs (iOS, Android and Windows) use a single version number for each release... period.

For BlackBerry, it causes confusion as some refer to the SR number, while must of us refer only to the Version Number. And then the carriers only refer to the SR.

At least it's not as bad as the legacy OS which had 3 sets of numbers - the "Bundle" or "Package" version number (what the carriers, and as a result, some users referred to), the "Application" version (the actual OS version number that most of us referred to), and the "Software Platform" number (that almost no one ever referred to).

Thanks joeldf. Everything you said makes sense to me, but I still don't get why the SR is lower for OS 10.2.1.3253. Anyway, most people have stated that the SR means nothing and it's the OS version that matters. So I think I will install 10.2.1.3253 when I get home.

Actually it's the individuel software that matters most eg. the sys files as stated here by thurask. a later OS could bring earlier software as seen with the camera-app downgrade in relation to the launch of the Z3. Of cause a later sys.file or software edition could also pose new problems so theres no clearly given answer where newer is always better. however most people experience improvements with 3253 over 3247 and the later radio so go for it.

PS No intension of complicationg or over simplyfying things just wanted to tell that later software doesn't always mean better or even newer software as a whole
