10.0 patch didn't really count as a big update to me though :P

Wasn't talking about 10.0 patch, I was talking about 10.1, it came out 13 may I think so 3 month and 13 days since the original 10.0

I hope 10.3 (or 11, as we close in on a full year of BB10 being available) drops soon! Maybe there are some surprises in store !

are you seriously predicting that 11.x will release before year's end? i know technology is moving fast but DAYUM> lol. I doubt 10.3 will even release before 2015 (in/with some markets and/or providers).

    Why wouldn't it?

10, 10.1, 10.2 all came out in 1 year 10.2.1 is already in final stages in seems like before the years end.

10.3 isn't that far away if you think about it :P..

You will see another major release, if not 2 in 2014. BlackBerry has big plans, and they aren't showing any plans of slowing down.

If 11 is going to be the next major revision of BlackBerry 10, then yes, I think it only makes sense. BlackBerry 10 has been on the market for almost a year now. While I think 10.1 and 10.2 were fantastic updates that brought along many new features, I think BlackBerry has been holding back when it comes to core updates (thinking UI, developer tools, new screen resolutions, hardware features, using the new QNX10 platform, etc.). I can't help but think BlackBerry's been working on quite a lot of stuff in this year but have been holding back more of the "flashy" stuff in place of the more key needed features to address the knocks against the initial 10.0 release.

I honestly don't know whether we'll see "BlackBerry 11" at all this year if the company considers 10.1 and 10.2 to be major releases (a la iOS 4, 5, 6, 7, etc.). If this is the case, I'd expect 10.3, 10.4, etc. in 11's place.

i'd hope so. i'd hope that we'll see less (.1.1.x) releases and bigger major releases. I would like to see 10.5 coming out by the end of the year. but BBRY has been going at a snail's pace since 2010.

I don't know that you can really say that for sure though because there is nothing stopping from BB calling (what we perceive as) the10.3 release as 11.0 instead. What its called is marketing at some point, and they may do that in 2014 to "re-launch" the platform in hopes to hit the reset button on the media hype

Moving at a snails pace compared to who? 1 product release, 2 major updates (10.1 and. 10.2) and 2 smaller updates (10.1 MR and 10.2.1 leak) all within 1 years time is practically break neck speed compared to folks like Apple. I don't know of another mobile OS vendor moving this fast.

The funny thing is, I've actually seen random reports of people getting 10.2.1 pushed to them OTA here, over the past few days.

For example, someone posted yesterday desperately looking for help because their device had thrown a hardware error code and as a result they were trying to use Link to restore the original OS.

But instead of Link offering 10.2.0 or 10.1.x.x like he originally had, it was pushing 10.2.1. He wanted to know if that would work or not.

And this is not the only report like this I've seen recently.

Furthermore, a lot of recent BlackBerry knowledgebase articles refer to bugs where the solution is "Upgrade to OS release 10.2.1 or later".

Conclusion: 10.2.1 is right around the corner.

    Agreed.

There have already been two BETA releases to BES testers, and if the previous BETA test is any indication of a timeline (where the final release was pushed out a couple of weeks after the BETA) the final release will also be just a few weeks after the BETA. I honestly expect 10.2.1 to be announced any day now and would be shocked if it took until the end of the month.

I agree with everything except for the "snail's pace" part. In a less than a year, BlackBerry launched a new OS, four new devices based on that software (and one based on older Java OS), two major updates (plus a bunch of minor ones), all while going through major financial struggles and internal restructuring. No other company in the industry has moved even close to that pace. Sure, no other company launched a new platform with holes that needed to be filled, but it's still remarkable nonetheless.

Considering all that was accomplished in 2013 despite BlackBerry's struggles, I'm more proud than ever to say I support this company.

so we go with BlackBerry 11... and like i mentioned before, they would change the name every 2 years? that's kinda like how they did BBOS with 7.1 and just left it at that to move on to the next thing. With that logic, we should be on BlackBerry 13 by next year. not a sound plan. that's a marketing director's nightmare.

    But it's delicious soup, yes?

(Aside: I've always "loved" braindead "posting nannies" on online forums. This one hates capital letters unless they are used in very specific ways. So I tried to put a series of "big grins", which are a colon (":") followed by an upper-case D ("D"). Just like the one in the sentence above. But noooooooo, posting nanny didn't like that. So it dutifully changed all the "D"'s in my smilies to lower-case, obliterating the smilies. Only thing I could do is change to a different emoticon. )

difference. everyone with a 'modern' i-device will get that update whenever it's released. plenty of people don't have 10.2 officially. oh and leaks aren't releases. you seem to forget all the delays they've 'had' and that 10.3 should have been out by now, imho. The 10.1 MR & 10.2 were almost just patches to the horror that was 10.0 and rightfully released within a years' time because it would have been ridiculous not to do so. still a snail's pace considering the manpower they had & have.

    Wrong.

Many builds that were initially leaked ended up being official releases on various carriers.
