Remember when a lot of BlackBerry users were making fun of Siri and saying how stupid it was?

    Ya. That.

PS: I'm sure you're all aware it's just nuance as well, right? This right here, of course, being the relevant part.
No... but I remember saying that Siri was the one thing that made me look twice at the iPhone4...

I can't wait to try this on my Z10. But I am going to wait for more of a stable build. After all, this IS my daily driver.

Can someone please upload the BAR files for those of us on 10.1.0.nnnn? I had to downgrade from 10.2.0.nnnn to 10.1.0.4537 due to app incompatibilities and I miss the fun I had playing with this.

I'm back on 10.2 (10.2.0.483) so I might make a vid or if you want me to ask it a certain question I can screen shot it for you

I'm pretty satisfied with the questions it can answer. It would be pretty cool if you can do a short video just to see how smooth it is if possible.

    Thanks!

I tried this out last night and it made me want to throw my z10 at the wall. I was so frustrated. The speech recognition was poor and it often took me places that I did not want to go. I felt like I was on a call with super bad customer support.

I used this for 24 hours. This is no where near what SIRI can do. It's good. The best Blackberry has ever done. But calling it like SIRI is like calling a Ferrari like a Ford GT because they're both fast cars.

Try saying - "Play Jazz" - Nope doesn't work. Try saying, "Turn on Blue-Tooth" - Nope doesn't work. Try saying, "Do I need an umbrella today?" - Nope. Try saying, "I need coffee" - nada. Try saying, "Call me Ishmael"....

Voice recognition is getting better, but much like all things BB over the last 2-3 years, it's still at least a full generation behind the top devices.

My husband has the Q10 and our kids have iPhone. Siri will read them their texts, emails etc. that they receive. It also lets them use voice to reply and send a new text or email. The Q10 seems to only allow us to use voice to send a message but will not read us messages received. Is this feature available on Q10 and we've missed it? I have the Bold 9700 and this will be my deciding factor as to upgrading to Q10 or switching to iPhone. Q10 is my preference because of the keyboard but definitely want the Siri-like features to use with sending and receiving text/email messages.

Remember, Voice Control for 10.2 is still in development. We have no idea how it will work, if at all, in the final version. Don't let this be a deciding factor at this early, testing stage.

The innovation is done everywhere else in the OS.. They are just adding this feature because people like my aunt are simply buying an iPhone because of Siri.. Doesn't hurt to throw it into BB.. They aren't going to market it like Apple did, they are just putting it in to appease people and help fill the gap..

Blackberry needs to market it like Apple, not appease.

sorry mate, but it will not work. I sent across both the voice control and nuance bar files to 10.1, I tried variations, etc, but it will not link with wolfram alpha. so it remains a 10.2 exclusive feature.

We already have it on 4537 I suppose....
EDIT: I don't think we have Wolfram Alpha on 4537!

***Notice on the last screen grab it will show 2 of the turns at once kind of like what Tomtom GPS does so you know what lane to go in, I've noticed that ever since 10.2 but 10.1 MR probably has it. It's good for quick turns***

Not exactly the same. With SIRI you need not have this type of exacting language - "Navigate to..." With SIRI you can say, "SIRI, I'd like some coffee." It will remember if Starbucks is a favorite. Or you could say, "I need a cup of coffee" or "I could use a Starbucks" etc...

Being able to understand plainly spoken words is generations ahead. Again the difference between - "Do I need an unmbrella today?" and "what is the weather?" It may seem minor in comparison, but the coding required is incredibly complex.

They all use the same back end those so I'm assuming it won't be too hard to catch up to siri. 10.2 is miles of ahead of where 10.1 was with voice control

Agreed, as far as miles ahead of 10.1! And compared to OS7 it is like comparing Ben Franklin to Jetsons.

However in terms of catching up...BB has yet to show they can sustain any effort to catch up to their counterparts. The next year will be interesting to see where they invest limited resources.

They have a lot of resources let's just see if they use them right. Let's not forget this is a completely new operating system not even a year old! I'm excited to see where 10.2 Mr stands against 10.1 mr, BBRY just needs to keep this momentum and keep listening to the crackberry users

This is a beta and look how far it has came. It'll get better don't worry.

True it has come far, loads better. But understanding variations of one request or query is absolutely key to make voice control all the more relevant and appealing. Voice control may not be of much use to some, but for those who really depend on it, variations like "Are there any ____ around here?"or "What are some good hardware shops around here?" are like a lifeline. Plus support from services like Yelp and Urbanspoon could greatly help a person decide on where to go. Think especially for those who are disabled or less able people.
