I just reloaded stock OS and so far the signals are the same, so I take it that it's a phone hardware problem.

Before you carve that verdict in stone you need to rule out any form of local interference and tower problems. Go Somewhere Different for half an hour or so. Move to somewhere where you have (a) a different environment and hopefully different tower, and (b) a nearby tower for reasonably strong signal. If the problem goes away you're looking at something like interference or a flaky antenna (sector coverage) on your local tower.

I have even experienced a case where one site I used regularly had a failed sector which would show a good signal on the control channel (standby) and on first connection, then drop calls with almost zero signal after about 30 seconds on the working channel. Walking up the street to get cover from a different antenna (120 degree sectors) cleared the problem. I ended up with one of the network engineers on the phone while I walked, telling him when the call would drop based on my view of the antenna and estimate of its coverage zone.

Yes i think I said before that in my house on the Z I always got good signal very stable, but on my Q it's all over the place same as going around Calgary I never get full bars on my Q but I always had full barson my Z so I don't think it's because there something interfering nothing has changed.

I just switched back to my Q10 and have been watching my signal strength over the last while.

Rock solid 5 bars inside the house. Definitely something with the OS or the Z10 at this point.

    The Q10 is running 4285

Tried that...with LTE on, it's at 2 bars...no more, no less...with LTE off and only 4G, it continues to fluctuate. fml.
