    Hello, Everyone!

I'm trying to find out the name of the BB OS10 file which controls the workings of the Mobile Hotspot feature so I can extract it into a BAR file and post it here for other Verizon Z10 (STL100-4) users who are having the same problems I am w/getting that feature to work in 10.2.0.1047.

Does anyone know what the name of this OS file is? At this point, all I've been able to locate is this one: sys.hotspotBrowser-<VersionInfo>.

Is this the correct one? I'm looking through multiple leaked OSs to try and locate which will work with the STL100-4 devices, and so far (for me) the .810 and .1047 versions just aren't cutting it:

    - sys.hotspotBrowser-10.2.0.24 [ From 10.2.0.810]
    - sys.hotspotBrowser-10.2.0.35 [From 10.2.0.1047]

Any input is gratefully accepted! Thanks in advance!

Sure did. I tried it yesterday, but the result was the same -- no go.

From what I've previously tried and messed with, I don't think it's those files. I tried replacing those two files as well as the settings files with those from 810 and nothing worked. The thing that had some success is the radio replacement, but even then you get hotspot once every reboot. I think it's a combination of radio and core files. From what I read on another post, the issue seems to be fixed in the 10.2.0.1323 leak.

    Ohhhh... I see!

Thanks for that information! I really appreciate it!

I'll be on the lookout for that .1323 leak, then. I didn't think being without my mobile hotspot capability was going to be a big deal until last weekend when my wife needed it to do some work while we were out traveling.

Enjoy what remains of your day, and thanks again!

OK -- I wasn't sure if replacing any of the settings modules would be appropriate for this, but I'm game. I'll give it a shot.

Can you confirm which of these modules I should try (from 10.2.0.810)?

    Just settings
Settings2 is the old AIR settings and accounts is for your accounts.

I haven't made any thorough checks to see if they had some major connections, but most of what happens in settings is in the settings bar. Good luck!

Well, I gave it a shot with the sys.settings file from .810, but still no joy.

I -think- I saw the pop-up dialog saying the mobile hotspot capability is restricted in certain countries displayed, but it was there for less than a second and then it was gone. I also noticed that Wi-Fi crashed immediately after that dialog was displayed and the mobile hotspot attempt failed.

It was doing that prior to my attempting to use the .810 sys.settings module, though.

At this point, I tried going into the engineering screens viewer to see what I could see, and I found something very interesting:

Quick Question: 10.2.0.1047 Mobile Hotspot BAR File -- What's It Called?-bb10-engscreen001.png

My vendor is Verizon Wireless, and I don't think that particular vendor ID is supposed to be '0'?

Maybe that's the root cause of the problem? I've tried changing that value, but have had no success. Can any other Verizon customers try viewing your engineering screen and post your vendor ID as well (for comparison)?

    Steps:

    1. Open your BB browser
    2. Enter this as the URL: escreen://
    3. Confirm the prompt when it is displayed, and the screen will be loaded
    4. Look for the value in this field: Vendor ID:

To dismiss the engineering screen, simply swipe up from the bottom bezel and kill it like any other application.

It would be interesting to find out if the Vendor ID value is '0' for Verizon customers running the latest 10.1.0.2039 release they just pushed out.

My vendor ID is also 0, but it works.
It could be a problem in the base OS for Verizon users. I know they have to do some special things in the OS for your guys.

This is what I saw with 1047, so maybe we really need to use a more recent settings.
    Hopefully this weekend.

Well, the request is off-topic, but if you really need it, I will try to assist.

Which OS are you running? 10.2.0.1047?

Yep. I believe thurask is correct. I don't see it in the list of apps included in the 10.2.0.1047 autoloader, so it is indeed baked-in. Sorry!

    Thanks for clarifying that, thurask!
