How do I transfer my passwords from BB10.1 to BB10.2 unless I do a restore which some of you recommend against. This will be my first time loading a leak so I am trying to get everything figured out ahead of time.

    thks in advance

If you're upgrading via the upgrade pushed out by your carrier, the data will remain intact. (Always best to have a backup, just in case).

If you're referring to installing the 10.2.1.1055 leaked OS and you're comfortable with side-loading, take a look at this thread: http://forums.crackberry.com/bb10-le...ctions-877488/.
I've installed this version of PW Keeper, and it works just fine for me. The backup file just has to be moved to the mSD card or onto your PC temporarily, so it's available after you upgrade.

I installed this version of PW keeper so that I could do a security wipe. I saved the back-up to my SD card. Now, after reinstalling, I try to import but the app says the backup file can't be located. How do I point the application to the backup file?

You have to reinstall the version of password keeper that gave you the option to backup, in order to be able to restore from that backup.

I sideloaded the same version as linked above for the export and reinstalled it for the import. Says it can't find the file.

When you go to import, make sure you are selecting the B10 Password Keeper then browse and select the file you had export
