    Say what?

Does that mean the version on the Priv will not work?

Of course not. Just on BB10.

    Not after 31 December
WhatsApp drops support for Android 2.x and our ART is 4.x so the Android version will continue to work, albeit w/o media sharing.

Usman stated that the developer specifically said that the Android version will also cease to function on BB10 on Dec 31.

But why? 'Cause they don't drop support for ART 4.x, which we do have.

That's only for WhatsApp to answer. Our argument is that BB10 can more than support Whatsapp, but they say it can't!

They are the ones that pulled the plug. I do believe a part of their reasoning had to do with the development of their API which wouldn't be able to function on BlackBerry. Some rubbish like that!

Other members maybe able to supply the exact statement they said.

There can be other reasons why it won't work. The discussion was carried out in the WhatsApp betazone forum. I don't know the details.

Our API is ART 4.x, which they keep supporting. So I don't see the problem. If their API will be incompatible, then they'd better announce to drop Android 4.x as well.

If nobody can satisfactorily explain "why" to you, you can be sure it won't happen.

Maybe they just think the user experience is subpar with the Android app. It's at least less than perfect.

Supposedly it is because it is not profitable to keep the WhatsApp application on an operating system with very few users, that upset me greatly

WhatsApp is moving to be a communications portal much like WeChat is in China where you can do everything in your life in it including all manner of shopping/financial/payments systems. The runtime is segregated by the rest of BB10 by design thus it doesn't have features like NFC access and Android financial apps often see the runtime as a rooted devices and you can't upload checks into accts. These design limitations aren't going to let WhatsApp do what it wants to do and thus Android WhatsApp will not be working in the runtime.

Yeah, if only they'd open up their API, even if only for the basic features. Then we could have a legal 3rd party WA client. Still don't see why they're not opening it up, given that owner Facebook is very open with the FB API's...
