Your comprehensive, step-by-step instructions enabled me to update my Z10 phone last night. I'm on Verizon and now have the 10.3.1.2726 BB10 OS! It's great! Works wonderfully!

Very informative thread, thank you all for the input, and thanks especially to mainely_linux for making the links available.

2726 is downloaded, and sitting there laughing at me, tempting me to install it on my Z30 (STA100-6).

I'm on 2708, Blitz install over 2582 (I think it was). It's running really well for me, with improved carrier signal performance over 2582, so I'm inclined to stay with it' but still the 2726 temptation/curiosity persists.

Can anyone who has gone from 2708 to 2726 on a Z30, comment on their radio performance (more specifically carrier and wifi signal) after the upgrade?

    Many thanks.

New to updating the OS. Read this entire thread as well as other internet resources. Upgrading from a BB 9930 to BB Z10. Received this second-hand BB Z10 from work. Plan to do a destructive update to overhaul the device.

    Carrier: Verizon Wireless
    Model: Z10 STL100-4
    Current OS: 10.2.1.2976

Am I supposed to use "AutoLoader Z10STL100-2-3-4 [Mega]"? I ask because the Verizon Z10 has it's own Debrick, Core OS and Radio files. As such, I presumed that the Verizon Z10 would have it's own autoloader as well, but I don't see one. Please advise.

Also, am I supposed to also download and use "Updated apps over 10.3.1.2582"? If so, how?

    Thanks.

Just use the autoloader. It does it all.

The other files are for non-destructive upgrades.

I know, but am I choosing the right version of the autoloader? Shouldn't there be a Verizon Z10 version of the autoloader?

And just to confirm, do I need the "Updated apps over 10.3.1.2582"?

    Thanks

    Autoloader contains all apps.

OS is identical between all 2,3,4 versions of the Z10. No worries.

Radio for -4 model used to contain a few bytes of slightly altered code, but it never amounted to anything tangible imho.

Hmmm, but it's not just the radio file. Verizon specifically has it's own version of all the files.
    - Blackberry Z10 Verizon (QC8960) for Debrick and Core OS
    - Z10 (STL 100-4) Verizon Radio

I know that the files are identical between 2, 3 and 4. But a specific Verizon version exists for all the files, which is what I find confusing. How come there is no Verizon autoloader since Verizon has different files? Does the autoloader contain both versions and magically know that I have a Verizon phone to load the appropriate files?

You absolutely don't need to worry about it. The generic autoloader is perfectly fine. The core OS is bit-for-bit identical. Sometimes they throw in an extra Verizon-specific carrier bloatware app, which would explain the different debrick.

Ahhh, I feel much better now. So I'm going to use the autoloader for Z10 -4. Why does Verizon have to overcomplicate things? =T

Perhaps I misstated my original question, which should have been why Verizon has it's own special files and if the autoloader contains those Verizon files? So I guess the answer is because Verizon adds more bloatware and that the autoloader doesn't contain the Verizon bloatware.

Yes. I'm on Verizon and I usually make my own autoloaders and sometimes I use the Verizon files and sometimes I do not. And it has made absolutely no difference, in my opinion. However what you will get with the Verizon debrick are the default apps that come preloaded on Verizon phones, such as, My Verizon, Backup Assistant, Verizon Cloud, Slacker, Bing, and so forth. And as Conite says above, there's really nothing to worry about and no difference. All those apps are available through BlackBerry World should you really want them later on.

That's essentially correct. Since Verizon is the only carrier that uses the -4 model, the bloatware gets put right in there. The other ones remain generic because they are used by multiple carriers.

Thanks Guys! Long live Blackberry! My co-worker that gave up the Z10 went to iPhone. I was offered an iPhone too, but I refused. Which is why I'm still using the 9930. Now I gotta figure out how to get Google Play on there and make them feel stupid. =D

Guys I am planning on updating a friend's Z10 but he is 10.2.1. Would updating via Sachesi (so he doesn't lose his info) be ok? Or for that to work he would have had to be on a 10.3.1 version already?

(I updated mine via Sachesi but I had a version of 10.3.1)

You can upgrade from 10.2.1 to 10.3.1 using Sachesi without a problem. Create a backup using BlackBerry Link first though, as recommended when performing any software update just to be on the safe side.

I once loaded a Verizon OS on my STL100-3, and the only difference was one app that ran in the Background. I don't remember what it was for. I think it had do something with the account.
I uninstalled the app from the device monitor and nothing changed. And then a week later just for the heck of it I installed the same OS, but the generic version and everything worked exactly the same, even with the radio files different.
I could have saved me the effort to stay on the Verizon load.

Drill down to the 10.3.1.2726 folder, then download the Z30 file. Since the Z30 and the Classic are identical at a software level.
