I'm currently running 10.3.0.296 on my Z10 and whilst being very impressed with the new fluidly and speed of the updated runtime, one thing still gets me.

Whenever I launch an .apk, my device gets very hot and my battery drains like crazy. For example, I was on a plane for 1.5 hours and I decided to play the game 2048 (the android version) to kill the time. In that time, my battery went from 58 percent to 14!! And I was in airplane mode, since, well, I was sitting in an airplane.

I really hope that BlackBerry will streamline the runtime and make it less battery - consuming.

This OS version is a leak and leaks are usually not optimised in battery consuption, don't worry about that.

Why wouldn't you play a native 2048 to begin with?!

I agree, it's the same in official 10.2.1 the phone gets hot and drains very fast on Android apps.

I find it depends on the app. I'm guessing it's not the battery but the video components that are getting hot, working hard on a poorly optimized implementation of some video related functionality. At least that's based on my experience.

Fixing that will probably be a large undertaking.

Just for the record, this happens on Android devices as well. It is more a function of the app than BB10 or its current rendition of the Android runtime. I don't, and probably won't use a native Android device, but my wifes GS4 suffers from these issues.

Two suggestions: Try turning the brightness down as low as possible. Since the display is on while playing, this can make a big difference in battery life. Many games don't need the same level of brightness that I need for other apps.

My 2nd suggestion is to get the native app called Hues. It's a great implementation of the 2048 style of games. My daughter has many 2048 games on her iPhone but she comes and asks if she can play Hues almost every night.
