I still want to bring up the subject of never going back. If you update and it fails, or if your device just doesn't "like" the update, short of going to official support and trying to fix the issue, which may take forever to never, you just have to live with it. I just don't like this idea. I know I'm in the minority here. But it's a genuine concern.

I dunno. It's OT and pointless. But it's a concern.

I would like to know if it's merely the blacklist that prevents it, or a change to the nvram that cannot be undone once done? Meaning, if my only solution after engaging support with an official release loaded OTA or via Link, and they admit they can't fix my issues, is a replacement device the only recourse? Or can they "bake" a special fix release of 10.3.1?

Sorry. Just had to ramble out loud here. Move along.

The blacklist IS a setting of the nvram on the device. Permanent and irrevocable to all but BlackBerry themselves. BlackBerry is doing this whole thing to be compliant with the new kill switch legislation.

You don't need to worry. The OS is excellent. Worst case is you have to do a clean/destructive install if you have issues.

Thank you. But legislation? Can you expand on that? I missed it.

I need to be talked off the ledge so to speak and just load the official once it is so.

Appreciate the feedback, and all the great advice I've seen you give to others all throughout the threads.

10.3.2.680 and 798 is already official. Factory unlocked devices are already getting it from BlackBerry.

Kill switch - it's the law in California. Other jurisdictions are likely to follow quickly. It is a big deterrent to theft. Other manufacturers are doing the same. It is designed to make a device useless to a thief.

"The law represents an attempt to reduce rampant smartphone theft. Approximately 30% to 40% of robberies in major US cities involve the theft of mobile communications devices, according to the San Francisco district attorney's office. In San Francisco, that figure is 65%."

In California, all devices sold after July 1 must have the technology installed by law. The system must be resistant to downgrading the OS.

Just do it! You know you want to, you can still restore your pre 10.3.2 backups, just not the pre 10.3.2 os

Yesterday I installed the 10.3.2 OS and, by now, it looks great: it looks faster with all the apps, Android or BlackBerry native, and more sensible. After a day-trial I could be more specific but it seems to be 2-3 steps ahead of whichever 10.3.1

I just installed os leak 10.3.2.798 and wowoowzers my device is running so much faster?!!!

Do it but do it correctly and make sure you read how to install leaks in this thread topic. It's easy and fool proof but you have to install leaks correctly. Observing the do's and donts and you'll be fine!

Regarding autoloaders, if they were so much better then non-destructive updates, why wouldn't BlackBerry / the carriers also release them as opposed to just releasing OTA non-destructive updates?

Because you could also perform a security wipe after an OTA/Link install and enjoy the same benefits. The autoloader is simply much faster.

tbh I never had an issue with non-destructive updates. Fact is, I have no time to restore the entire phone afterwards, it's a biiiigg pain in the @!

since i've been on passport, (october '14) the only autoloader I used, was when i just got the phone, I updated to the latest version. Since then I only performed Blitz myself, and i never had once issue, and let's be honest, except for extracting apps from the Debrick file (which is relatively easy if you read around in the forum), the rest is a walk in the park! and no restore afterwards! BINGO

And if you're wondering WHY there's a blacklist; the new BlackBerry Protect requires the next user (whether people you know, you or a f'ing thief) to logon the last BBID the device before letting you/he/she in in case of a wipe. Actually, even BEFORE doing a wipe, a login is required preventing thieves from also wiping your phone.

Loading previous versions would easily bypass that feature as there's no anti-theft feature yet; so BlackBerry decided to disallow any other older versions.

EDIT : Oops, I didn't see the previous posts, hopefully I made this post clearer regarding legal kill-switch.

I've installed 10.3.2.500 and .680 both with autoloader on my "italian" Z10 and no issues, all works fine.
Only in .500 i find some minor bugs (location can't switch off and protect logout each reboot) but system ran very well, and with 680 become perfect!
Love the new anti theft and don't worry cannot turn back.

Ot...how many italian there are in this thread!

Because some people (many) do not do backups and the Autoloader method erases all data on the phone (generally not an sd card's data). So all of your settings, your apps, your email accounts, you game scores would be gone. If you did a backup you could restore. But those processes also can take a number of hours. Hence, OTA updates which overwrite the OS stuff but leaves other things generally intact.

You can visit the Leak OS subforum. But it is NOT an official Blitz for a Verizon phone since Verizon has not released it.

    Lol official blitz.

The blitz thread has all devices, it just won't load the Verizon apps, you can do that after the fact.

I guess I could create a Verizon only blitz, but that would require me getting up out of my bed.
