So. I can't get my phone to recognize a micro USB flash drive after upgrading.

I used Blitz to get this far; then, when I had this problem I used an autoloader for a fresh start.

    Still won't read USB sticks.

On a Passport if that makes a difference, and other USB services work.

    Any suggestions?

I haven't updated to 2339 yet, but am curious to know more about the USB on the go experiences of others so far with 2339.

Just for clarification, are you simply plugging a USB OTG adapter into the BlackBerry and then the USB drive into that?

    Update:

My gf got the official update through Rogers and she has the same problem.

the problem is with flash drives, only it seems.

Whether it be through mirco USB drives, or another USB sticks with an adapter. None have worked so far.

    Appears to be only OTG.

Syncing and Link work on both phones.

I hardly ever get the one-off problems. Hope someone's got an answer.

I have several Passports with my small business. All on 2339 and USBTG is working fine. I know it's obvious, but have you tried a volume button reset?

    No USB OTG with. 2339-img_20150727_140658.png

    Works fine as mentioned.
Even managed to charge my other phone using this USB OTG.

Just do a few check on the cable, flashdrive or as mentioned above, do a hard reboot using volume rockers.
See if any of these solves the issue.

    Yap.

Did a number of resets, power-offs and volume resets.

I also did a cable test with BBVE and everything checked out.

What picks my corn is that it's a bunch of different USBS, too.

I even accidentally wiped out 3 years of pictures on my media card because I was in trouble shoot mode. That one hurt quite a bit. Still stings.

When I plug in a USB a hub message appears telling me to check my storage settings for more information. That screen and message are absolutely no help at all.

I guess it's just my turn to by special. I was hoping someone might have an idea before I do a wipe and reload.

Thanks for the replies so far, gents and gals.

How big are the USB drives? If they are bigger than 32gb, you may need the exfat driver. This is usually downloaded the first time you insert a larger than 32gb micro SD card into the phone.

This is just a guess. Try checking for software updates when you have the flash drive plugged in.

Check the format of the USB stick, I had the same problem because the stick was in NTFS which is not supported by BlackBerry OTG

What is the brand of the USB drive and capacity?
What USB drive? External 2.5" hard drive or flash drive?
Does it NOT work with both (if you have tested)?
Have you tried at least 2 different hard drives of different brands?
Did you ensure the external hard drive or flash drive are NOT NTFS format and it's FAT32?

How many Z30 users are able to get USB OTG to work without having to plug it into a powered USB hub? I'm on Z30STA100-3/10.3.2.858 and can only get it to work through a powered USB hub.

Just to the sake of clarity for anyone else looking for this answer.

    Format your sticks to FAT32....

...and then don't forget to do that later, either.

    Cheers to the BB community.

I use exFAT because it's safer to use on flash drives and memory cards. fat32 has a static location for the file allocation table so that area of the memory card is written to every time a file is added or deleted from the card causing excessive wear which will ultimately destroy the card.

TIL... I was always wondering what that did. Thanks for the info. I'll switch it over. FAT32 did work though.

If the device is encrypted and you save something to the USB, will it be readable to other devices? Will it be decrypted during the transfer like using Link?

No. That's the point. Only the device that encrypted the card can decrypt it.
