Haven't been able to use NFC to communicate with anything but BlackBerry devices. Any pointers?

Your friends should try disabling their "special" NFC in order to get more compatibility.

Like S Beam in Samsung phones, I believe.

S Beam and custom ROMs tended not to work when communicating with my Z10. This is using a Galaxy Nexus, a Galaxy S3 and a Nexus 4.

So is this something that can be corrected with future updates or is it a hardware limitation?

My testing also showed that S Beam had problems connecting to non-TouchWiz devices of all stripes, so my guess is that it's Samsung's problem.

Which devices have you tried it with?

I have tried with a couple Samsung phones. Samsung Galaxy S2 detected my Q10 and refused to transfer. I can't remember the exact message.

Looks like Samsung Note may be compatible. I'll have to track one down and try it out. Is there anyway to disable the "Sbeam"? I had a friend briefly look through his settings and he could see how to turn it off. Thanks to everyone's posts. They have been very helpful.

I haven't had any trouble with NFC-compatible devices, including Samsungs and others. I drop things to my kid's SGS-2 all the time over NFC -- it just works.

I have had success with some new samsungs after turning off the Sbeam. Some still have issues but then I just transfer via bluetooth

I tried both Samsung S3 and HTC One. Unfortunately, picture could not get transferred thru NFC. I'm not sure why and how to change the settings for NFC of Android devices. The owners of those Android devices have no clue either.

I haven't had trouble interchanging with any of the Samsungs -- the SGS-II, 3 or 4.

i've used nfc with different devices (even iPhone! ) and it works.
The issue with androids is the S beam BS, leave it off if you want it to make it work with BlackBerry.

Using Note 3 no problems. It threw me for a loop when trying to find the NFC under share. There is no need to hit share. Just select what you want to share and then bump the phones.
