5 minutes....thats how long it took me to realize that they switched my precious coveted dark theme back to the boring looking white theme bbry's used for years. the dark theme was sleek, new and very modern looking. I understand some people may have had a problem reading with the dark theme but it was one of my favorite features of BB10 and now from the looks of things it may be gone. Hopefully the official release is going to give you the option to switch but judging from the lack of options in bb10 to begin with (custom profiles, alert play count etc) i'm not getting my hopes up

Now that's funny. Apart from very few screens, the Z1o didn't really have a dark theme at all...

OP probably has a Q10. Keep in mind this is a leak and not an official update from BlackBerry. I'm sure the black screens will be available for the Q10 at the time of official launch.

I've read Z10 posts where owners felt left out that their devices didn't have the dark theme as well. IMO the look of the OS is just as important as the functionality and that white theme immediately reminded me of OS7, I don't know why BB10 didn't have the option to choose from light to dark from the release. I'm No programmer/developer but would it have really been that hard?

On the Q10 with a Super AMOLED screen it's not about being 'that hard' but it's about durability of both the screen and the battery. You can find a little bit more info on Designing for OLED displays - BlackBerry Developer

That's my bad, I figured you just meant BBM, those apps, are white, do to people complaining they couldn't read white on black

Micheal Clewly has confirmed they are getting rid of the dark theme due to readability issues. It will not return on the official release of 10.2.

How hard would it be to let us decide which theme to use?

This is true, they didn't even tell their BlackBerry employees running the OS's back when the calendar changed to white in 10.1. A lot of them were submitting bug reports that the calendar was black, and didn't know until we got our hands on leaks that it was the normal.

I wish they would change it on BB link. There are places where the lettering is gray on black and is almost unreadable. I don't mind the pure white on black.

I don't get why they don't just offer a black and white theme for all devices. I get that specific themes might be optimized and more efficient depending on the screen that's used, but something has to be said for user preference and options as well...
