Stupid question but if I do a full restore in Link, use the autoloader and do a full restore all my apps including android ones will be as they were with settings and logged in already? For some reason on 1154 about once or twice an hour or so the phone will decide to freeze up for over a minute which is really frustrating so I'm debating upgrading.

This leak is for the Z30 so just do a back up load the leak, then just do a back up, i'm not sure about the android apps but everything else should be good, you will have to sign into your emails again.

Don't think your android apps will appear from a restore. I had to reload but that's a good thing in my opinion.

Most likely, but there are no guarantees. If you have gremlins in your existing setup (that might be totally unnoticeable now), they could cause problems on the new OS.

My advice is always be prepared to do a security wipe and lose everything. That may mean backing up stuff with 3rd party apps first. Hopefully it won't come to that.

Restore the android apps later after restoring the OS data and settings so you can observe the behavior without the sideloaded apps.

This is a question about the detailed selective restore process in Windows Link.

When you do a Restore, Link always warns you that the data existing on the phone will be erased and replaced. I understand that.

But suppose you do a selective restore, say, of several backed up Android apps that aren't currently on the phone. Will the Restore function in Link still erase all the rest of the App data on the phone, thinking you want only those Android apps to be on the phone? Or does the Restore function only erase (if present) and restore those apps you select?

"Settings" can often be the worst culprit.

It won't delete or mess with things you already have on the device and have deselected. One caveat is that some settings and data for some android apps are saved as part of the item called "blackberry runtime". So, for example, if two of your android apps have data there, and you installed one previous along with the BlackBerry runtime, then you may have an issue if you want to subsequently install the other - would you also restore the BlackBerry Runtime or not?

Thanks for your thoughtful answer. Funny, I was going to ask the same thing about the Runtime before you edited your answer to include that question.

I have never known what to do about the Runtime, and whether the Android apps I was using had data in it. I'm hoping that from here on I won't have to do any wipes or autoload, only nondestructive upgrades, and will thereby avoid that issue.

The last time I did an autoload was when I upgraded from the Z10 100-3 (with 10.3.1.1151) to the Passport, autoloaded 10.3.1.1151, I think it was, then restored all the data, including the Android Runtime, figuring that I could always re-autoload and selectively restore again if I had to--nothing to lose in that case. Other than the apps not restoring to the same screens in the same order as they had been on the Z10, it all worked pretty well, and I didn't lose any data, Android or otherwise.

I have never restored the BlackBerry Runtime, and my device has always retained the settings for all 40-50 of my android apps.

It seems that it contains the security permissions for the Android apps, and the state of the hidden back bar for each app. I just redo those.

Clash of Clans (which I don't play) has its save data as part of the BlackBerry Runtime too.
