apple is in a completely different boat. US carriers are lucky to get more than 1 update per branch(10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.2.1, 10.3, 10.3.1) and Apple can push out an OTA update when ever they want.

Not to mention Apple can release an OS that doesn't have working radio and be fine.

They are simply not 2 companies that shouldn't be compared in anyway.
Sorry for the n00b question but I've never really understood why this is the case? Why do Apple release/push their OS's whenever they want but BB's have to go through carrier testing? Is it because of the radio and why would they car then anyway?

    Apple provides their own support.

As a small company, BlackBerry does not have the ability to provide global support for its devices, so relies on the carriers. Those same carriers cannot be expected to support an OS that they haven't been trained on or tested. Hence it is the carrier that allows updates when they are ready.

If BlackBerry had more market clout, they could probably squeeze the carriers to act more quickly, but they don't.

I would like to think that the higher branch is for an unannounced device that Blackberry is working on. =)

Tbh I don't even think that is it. Android has apple beaten by 100 : 1 basically. Android updates in the U.S. Vs the world even being an American company (Google) is still the slowest to get updates.

Samsung alone has more phones in the wild worldwide vs apple.

I'm sitting here shaking my head that they are still pumping out 10.2.1.XXXX code branch releases. They must be carrier wish list items because honestly the majority of their efforts should be focused on 10.3.1.XXXX, and carrier demands are the only reason I can come up with.

These are alpha server findings, although the continued existence of 10.2.1 is still disappointing.

Maybe in some heavily regulated companies with dedicated software, 10.2 branch is standard.
