I don't think it's a branch. They just skipped a bunch of numbers like they did with 10.2.1 when it jumped from 1382 to 1733.

Edit: it does appear to be a fork. Suddenly a number of OSes in the 1200s appeared. So they do appear to be developing concurrently.

I'd like to think that they did some significant rewriting of some of the core apps - contacts (which really needs an overhaul) and the calendar (to at least bring back the pre 10.3 look).

But, that's just wishful thinking on my part.

A complete snapshot of 10.3.1.1000-2000 that I think you might appreciate:

Its evident that as the releases get more mature, they stop being found in the beta servers.

You don't think they would combine a branch together? Is that possible? Which could explain why it jumped up so much

I just edited my post above. With a batch of OSes in the 1200s just appearing, it changes my mind. It does seem to be some type of fork. They seem to be working in the 1200s and 1700s at the same time. Whether they merge back together or not is another question.

1200 will probably be the RTM while 1700+ will be the next rev. It's nice to think they hit a major fork in 10.3.1 already.

Much to ponder over with the 2 different branches that seem to be in simultaneous development, the 12XX and 17XX series.

Sure that I read somewhere that the Classic was going to launch with a 17XX OS.

Are the branches going to be device specific because the Toolbelt and Trackpad of the Classic have different requirements OS wise ?

I would guess that they will merge the builds towards the end, just like how the q and z os builds are the same.
