I always figured an official OS was one that has been tested and approved for public release (by any carrier for any phone) and is thus considered to be stable and bug free. Where is a leak is an unapproved OS that is most likely to have bugs and other minor problems, one that hasn't necessarily been fully tested and debugged.

If you just call everything that you can find an autoloader for a leak how do you differentiate between the two different types? Or, do you just not realize the importance of that differentiation and call everything that's not your official OS a leak. Cause that's just confusing.

If I remember what you are referring to, I think it has happened once...maybe twice. Like I think the CrackBerry community got their hands on a few OSs right before they were officially released.

I wouldn't call that "many times", it certainly hasn't happened in a while, nor does it change the point I am making.

If it has been released by BB, it is a "release". If it hasn't been released by BB, it's a "leak".

If it hasn't been >approved< by a carrier, as carriers don't release OSs - BlackBerry does, then that still doesn't change the fact that BlackBerry has either officially released the OS or they haven't.

The fact that some leaks eventually become releases doesn't change the fact that either BlackBerry released the OS to the wild or they didn't. It's quite possible for an OS to change status from a "leak" to a "release", no one is arguing that, but the OS is one or the other.

Dear god yes, try driving in the Lower Mainland Vancouver BC - not only do people not use their turn signals, they routinely drive thru red lights and get pissed off when you don't! I don't know how these nutballs are getting driver's licenses!

How exactly would an official leak work?

    Files are up.

No offence but if people call them leaks to keep things straight let them, why would you think it's your job to come in and start telling everyone they are calling it by the wrong name. I don't personally care , I just want leaks, official, or by any other name,,

I don't "think it's my job" any more than you think it's your job to respond to my posts.

I thought my OP was pretty clear, but just in case it wasn't it's called user education about proper terminology. Again there is nothing wrong with properly educating people on the correct terminology, especially when you see it being so misused.

Why is it important? A lot of people hear "leak" and get scared when they shouldn't need to, because the software in question isn't a leak. Officially released OSs are safe to deploy compared to potentially volatile leaks. How is a new person supposed to tell the difference when everyone misuses the labels?

What hotfix is trying to say is that when someone is having problems (say with 10.2.1.537) we tell them to load the latest leak 2273 or 2947. Force of habit. They get all scared and say "I'll wait for my carrier to release it OTA. All hotfix is saying is people have to realize these are official OSes. Some people are afraid of the word "leak". Not me! Bring em on!
