Method works on .1055 leak with no problem, did not try on .1259 (just skipped this leak)
    HOWEVER.
I got a problem with this method after the upgrading to the recent leak .1925 :-(, namely, the sideloaded system bars are keeping the "permanent" mark and cannot be uninstalled.

Anyone has similar problem and figured out how it can be done on .1925 ?
    Thanks a bunch
I have same problem. Unfortunately I cannot find out how to solve this problem.

I had the same issue. Hoped it was just a glitch with the one I loaded, but it looks like others are having the same issue. I've gone back to 1259 so I can remove the bloat...will wait for the official OTA update from my carrier now (they haven't re-installed the removed files in the past...hopefully that is still the case!).

I had this issue with tutorials (sys.howto)
Turns out that if loaded an older version of that bar file the status changed from permanent to uninstallable

Well, let's make this as easy as we can.

I'm guessing you still have an autoloader exe file available - probably the one you just loaded. Grab Darcy's tool here. Once you download and extract it, run the app and click on the File Extraction button. Browse to the autoloader you used to load the OS on your device, and then use the "Select Apps" button. A list will pop up, scroll through and find the en_US file. Check the box, extract the file. Then put your device in Development Mode, open up Chrome and use the Playbook App Manager to sideload that en_US bar file (just drag the bar to the upper right corner). Bam. Done.
So just going through some old posts again and I realized I never thanked you for your help with this. Five months later.......Thank You. Of course many things have changed in the past five months and I am still learning with the help of others, and try to help others if I can, and I am glad that you are still around!!!

How did it work on your phone? I installed old version from 1055 files but still I can't remove those files.

I guess actually the glitch/bug was that the method I posted DID WORK, because I think it wasn't meant to work this way. BB just wants some apps to be persistent and non-deletable. So they fixed this in the newer release.

You could of course try instead side-loading with a different tool, but I suppose it won't change anything. Or try sideloading a different version of the system bar you want to delete and check if you can delete the different version then completetly.

It did fine on my phone to delete after using an older bar file. I am using the playbook extenstion on google chrome by the way. At first I tried loading the same version bar and that didn't work, but an older version did.

note: yes i have dev mode on and both laptop/bb10 device on the same network

edit: derp totally skipped a page of reading. will try to install/remove.
edit 2: i feel dumb. thanks thread! worked like a charm!

I gotta ask - I've done the exact same thing as you describe repeatedly with .1055 and .1259 and it's always worked just fine. Ran into the same issue as many others with .1925, tried reloading both the .1925 bars and then the .1259 and .1055 bars, but they still persist in remaining "permanent". Did you use .1055, .1259, or earlier bars? Kinda frustrated here....

I used 1259 bar for sys.howto. That is the only permanent file I tried. It took a couple of attempts.

I tried things both ways (copying repeatedly in one session, and also copy once, reboot phone, copy onto phone again, reboot phone...etc). Total of five times each way, using .1055 files, and it NEVER changes from "permanent" for the 4 files I'm trying to delete. Suggestions?

You don't even need to copy the file for that one...just tick the checkbox and click "Uninstall" in chrome.

I pretty much deleted the sys.howto file (I am on 1925) and all of the unneeded language files. Also deleted the first launch and retail demo file.

languages, retail demo and first launch do not have the permanent attribute, so they are deleted with no problem.
Still no luck with the "permanent" sys files. Well, hope @Lendo will come up with something feasible :-)

Why is it not possible anymore in os 10.2.1.2141 to shrink the OS. Most of the Permanent files keep standing in Permanent even when you sideload the bar files?

Does this means that BB has blok this function on the latest OS release, or is there a back door way to do this?

Why?... because it's just not possible on any build after .1055, full stop.
No one came with the solution so far.

I used Sachesi. Removed core apps. Some took two tries but most came out the first time. Plus, Sachesi let's you do more than one at a time unlike the Chrome extension.
