I think this all comes down to perspective. The previous leadership was attacking it from an "all or nothing" perspective. I think maybe Chen is looking at it from a "Get it in as many hands as you can" perspective. I'm liking the new thinking. OS10 has compelling advantages over the competition in security and simplicity. Unfortunately, you're never going to sell that idea at $500 a shot. When you're sinking a ton of money into a large BES deployment, the last you you want to do is turn around and buy everybody premium devices. It's just bad business.

I would venture to say Chen/BlackBerry is working on a lighter version of BB10 that will run on entry level devices, and the PlayBook will benefit from it. That's my hope anyway!

Hopefully we'll see soon. Big changes folks.. Big changes.

I think this would be only the new android runtime in the upcoming playbook update (if there will be any update), not the whole OS. If there will be an update for the playbook, it would have the same android runtime, that BB10 10.3 OS has now.

I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt the full OS upgrade will be available in the future...

Well i've got everything crossed, but how long will I have to stay that way ??

As an aside, I think it's in BBRY's interest to get BB10 to run in less memory, this will reduce the cost of lower end handsets. it's also in their interest to get BB10 resolution independant, this would mean they only have to maintain a single codebase rather than platform specific code like they do now. This would also make it easier for BBRY to license BB10 to other manufacturers, if that's where they are going ?

Course that's just common sense, but what do I know about it.

i don't own a PB, but i know that if BB does this for real, they will be worshipped by all the PB owners and even more.
wish that they will eventually do it. Kudos to Chen and surely if they come up with a great High end device they can count on my support.

Could it be a new version of the Playbook? Keeping in mind that Thorsten said that the PB wasn't capable of running BB10 smooth enough.
Doubtful, why keep the old resolution in an age of retina tablets. Thorsten just didn't want resources pushed into what was considered a commercial flop, Chen however has his head in the right place. Maybe get rid of all those Playbooks they couldn't sell. Point is, they're trying to push BB10 to where the market is: Lower End...

Maybe the Z3 will have this resolution. 1280 x720 is equivalent to a 1066x600 or 1024x576, so it would only have a 42 pixel deficiency on the length, 26 width if they go second route, but first is most like as you can fill easier than omit. It would be minimal when centered and only taking 22 from too and bottom. I hope it means 10.3 coming to the PlayBook, but given the scaling talk with the Z3, and BlackBerry's general f'ing over PlayBook owners for so long, I will expect little.

they will really need to get 10.3 smaller if they would bring this to the playbook (camera on z10 crashes a lot due to memory , sometimes it does not even start).
BUT , i really do hope they bring a kind of an update so we can have a good browser and more apps that would be fine for me !

If true the price for playbooks will rise on ebay. So the speculators may want to buy them up now.

Now it could be a new playbook too. Keeping the same resolution would help them introduce a tablet that could compete for price. Really isn't the playbook screen good enough for most. Add more ram and a better processor and you've got a pretty good tablet.

I hate the whole "retina" thing. It is a made up term by Apple to sell their products. According to the requirements for a retina display my Z10 has one at 356 PPI and the requirement is 326 PPI for smaller devices. Yes you are correct the PlayBook does not have a retina display but the term is crap IMHO.

I hate to burst potential bubbles, but I have opened a build file on both the Z10 and Q10 and each say full_playbook-user. The resolution is what may be on to something.

I used my Q10 to create this CrackBerry madness!
