Of course you didn't have drivers installed on your windows machine.

Well I added Blackberry Link to my PC and that did the trick I guess.

From 2d series of 9900 blinking red led doesn't mean hardware issue no more so 3 little solutions from you.

    You can't back up so

Download latest autoloader or the one you like more

Take USB cord and connect you phone ( make sure you have drivers and/or BlackBerry Link installed on you PC.

    Run the executable.

Restore a previous back up if you had any and/or start fresh.

    Good luck

Please help, phone just went off in the middle of a chat, battery was not low. while it went dead red LED started blinking and phone never came back online.
Eventually red blinking stopped, it only starts again once I plug it to the wall or PC but once disconnected it stops blinking.
I have used bb link to reload, it keeps searching for software update overnight and nothing happens (red light blinking)
I have tried autoloader, when it gets to connecting to bootrom, I plugged phone to usb..........it will ask for password, I punched it in and that's where it ends, nothing happens after that (Note: upon plugging of phone when autolodaer is activated, there will be a steady red light for a few seconds then blinking continues again)

Please I need help desperately, thanks to y'all!

There are two methods I use to solve this.

    1) Take out the battery. Run the autoloader, wait until it gets to Connecting to Bootrom, then plug the USB cable in. Let the phone boot to the red battery icon, and the autoloader should connect shortly afterwards. Once the firmware starts to flash, put the battery in.

    2) Open task manager and end any process that begins with BB, BlackBerry, or RIM. Go to Start, Run, and open services.msc. Do the same here, stop any service related to BlackBerry or RIM. Plug the phone in and try the autoloader again.
